*UPDATED* 2008 Pilot Castings

Lots of pilot news coming out recently, so I thought I’d try and get a post & page up about it. I’ll post this up top as a page as well and I’ll update it as I see new news come in. I don’t have any pilots on here that are uncasted, but if you run into something that I don’t have up, please let me know! New will be in red.


Danny Fricke
     It centers on Detective Danny Fricke (Connie Nielsen, Det. Dani Beck on Law & Order: SVU), who is sleeping with her boss. She gets a big promotion and on her first case investigates a high-profile murder while dealing with the old-school detectives who work for her. Michael Mosley (FBI Agent Atkins on Kidnapped) will play a well-educated cop who is a Mormon.

ABC Family

     It revolves around a group of friends, starring Dorian Brown (guest star on shows like NCIS, Psych & Las Vegas) as Katie Mackey.


Eleventh Hour (produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Cold Case, CSI & MANY more)
     The project, based on the limited British sci-fi series, centers on Jacob Hood (Rufus Sewell), a special science adviser to the government who, with his feisty female bodyguard Rachel (Marley Shelton) in tow, saves people from the worst abuses of science.

     Gotten from CTV in Canada, it stars Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars on Veronica Mars).

Mike Birbiglia’s Secret Public Journal
     Based on comedian Mike Birbiglia’s weekly blog that chronicles his daily life, the show will star him as a stand-up comedian who lives with his girlfriend in Brooklyn and struggles in his efforts to be a grown up, have a relationship, and do the right things.

My Best Friend’s Girl
     It is a multicamera comedy about two male best friends who own a bike shop and whose relationship becomes complicated when one (Tim Peper, Dougie on Carpoolers) starts dating the ex-wife of the other (Josh Cooke, Danny on Big Day).

Worst Week
     It centers on Sam (Kyle Bornheimer, Chris Calley on Jericho) and his rocky relationship with the parents of his fiancee (Erinn Hayes, Allison McKellar on The Winner) during a family holiday. Also cast in is newcomer Jay Malone.


Fringe (produced by J.J. Abrams, Alias, Lost)
     It centers on FBI agent Olivia Warren (Anna Torv, Jasmine McLeod on McLeod’s Daughers) who teams with Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson, Pacey on Dawson’s Creek) and his estranged father, institutionalized scientist Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble, Dr. John Madsen on All Saints), to confront the spread of unexplained phenomena. The pilot’s cast also includes Blair Brown, Lance Reddick (Cedric Daniels on The Wire), Kirk Acevedo (Nicky Cotero on The Black Donnellys), Tomas Arana, Mark Valley (Brad Chase on Boston Legal) and Jasika Nicole (Dora on The Return of Jezebel James).

Starting Under
     Bernie Mac stars as a man who has to move in with his on and start working for him in this comedy pilot. Ken Davitian (Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan) plays a guy named Ken who becomes buddies with Mac’s lead character.

The Pitts
     Allison Janney (CJ Cregg on The West Wing) will lend her voice to Liz Pitt in the upcoming animated comedy. Dylan Baker (John Trimble on Drive) and Lizzy Caplan (Kat Warbler on The Class & Marjee Sorelli on Related) are already on board to reprise their roles as father Bob and daughter Faith. The show chronicles the events in the life of the unluckiest family in the world.


     This multigenerational family drama centers on Jack (Charlie Hunnam, Nathan on Queer as Folk), a man in his 20s who is faced with his own responsibilities as a new father and is unsure how he’s going to balance that life with his involvement in the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club founded by his late father. Scott Glenn will play Jack’s stepfather with Katey Sagal (Nancy Gilroy on The Shield & Peg Bundy on Married… with Children) playing Jack’s mother.


Ladies’ Detective Agency
     It centers on Precious Ramotswe (Jill Scott (Donna Williams on Girlfriends), the proprietor of the only female-owned detective agency in Botswana. Anika Noni Rose (Lavender on The Starter Wife) plays her quirky secretary, Mma Makutsi, and Lucian Msamati stars as Ramotswe’s devoted suitor, JLB Matekoni. Also in the pilot are David Oyelowo (Joseph Asagai on A Raisin in the Sun, Idris Elba (Russell ‘Stringer’ Bell on The Wire), Colin Salmon (David Tyrel on Hex) and John Kani.

True Blood
     Alexander Skarsgard has joined the upcoming HBO vampire drama as a regular. The show is based on the “Southern Vampire” book by Charlaine Harris, and centers on the love story between a vampire (Stephen Moyer, Sam on The Starter Wife) and a waitress (Anna Paquin, Elaine Goodale Eastman on Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee) who has the ability to read people’s minds. Skarsgard will play a thousand-year old vamp and Viking. Also stars Ryan Kwanten (Jay Robertson on Summerland), Brooke Kerr (Denise on Cane) and Nelsan Ellis (Carter Howard on The Inside.


     The multicamera comedy stars Christine Ebersole (Lily Parrish on Cashmere Mafia).

Rita Rocks
     It centers on Rita (Nicole Sullivan, Holly Shumpert on The King of Queens), an overworked wife and mother in the middle of a full-blown identity crisis who starts a garage band with her postal carrier Patty (Tisha Campbell Martin, Carmen on All of Us) as well as her neighbor. Richard Ruccolo (Pete Dunville on Two Guys and a Girl) will play Rita’s husband, a handsome former jock who now spends his days working 9 to 5 in a jacket and tie.


Fear, Itself
     Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Shiri Appleby (Roswell), Elisabeth Moss (Peggy on Mad Men), Cynthia Watros (Libby on Lost), Eric Roberts (Thompson on Heroes), John Billingsley (Dr. Phlox on Star Trek: Enterprise & Terrence Steadman on Prison Break), Russell Hornsby (Eddie Sutton on Lincoln Heights), Pablo Schreiber (Nicholas Sobotka on The Wire), Stephen Lee (Dan Vogelsang on Dark Angel), Stephen R. Hart (Silent Hill), Jack Noseworthy (Jason Lobdel on Judging Amy) and Larry Gilliard Jr. (D’Angelo Barksdale on The Wire) are among the sought-after actors who will be portraying various characters in three episodes of the series.

Kath & Kim
     Based on the hit Australian series of the same name, it focuses on the dysfunctional relationship between Kath (Molly Shannon, Saturday Night Live) and her daughter Kim (Selma Blair, Hellboy).

The Listener
     Gotten from CTV in Canada, this new drama is about a man who can read other people’s thoughts and acts on them. Toby Logan (Craig Olejnik, Jake Bennett on Runaway) is a young, big-city paramedic with the power to listen to people’s thoughts. With his paramedic partner Osman Bey as his sidekick, Toby juggles life as a telepathic sleuth with that of an urban twenty-something.

The Man of Your Dreams
     The show is about a womanizer named Larry (Michael Trucco, Samuel Anders on Battlestar Galactica), who’s helping out romantically challenged woman with his expertise. Also joining the cast are Constance Zimmer (Claire Simms on Boston Legal), who plays Larry’s sister Liza, Christina Chang (Dr. Sunny Macer on 24) who plays a gold-digging twice divorced woman named Malinda, RonReaco Lee (Taylor Orrs on The Shield) who plays Larry’s protege Mitch and Justina Machado (Vanessa Diaz on Six Feet Under) who plays Liza’s friend & business partner Sheryl.

     It stars Christian Slater as a mild-mannered suburban dad, who finds out that his alter ego is a spy. It is desceribed as The Bourne Identity meeting Jekyll & Hyde.

     This comedy centers on a guy (Steven Weber, Jack Rudolph on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip & Brian on Wings) with no money living in Beverly Hills who — with the help of his Latino partner, Hugo (Bernardo De Paula, Jesus on Rescue Me) and a colorful cast of accomplices — concocts schemes to secure a glamorous lifestyle for his three children. Kay Panabaker will play the oldest child, who is bright, somewhat jaded and tired of her father’s scams.


Title Unknown
     Edie Falco (Carmelo Soprano on The Sopranos) will play a strong-willed, iconoclastic New York City nurse juggling the frenzied grind of an urban hospital and an equally challenging personal life.

Spike TV

     It centers on a five-man elite secretive police unit — SIS, or Special Investigation Squad — within the LAPD that tackles major crimes and major criminals. Keith David (Stanley Sunday on 7th Heaven) stars as assistant chief Joseph Armstrong, head of the secret squad. Omari Hardwick (John ‘Sack’ Hallon on Saved), Matt Nable, Peter Stebbings (Markus Alexander on Jeremiah) and Colleen Porch (Pvt. Lei Sahara on Starship Troopers 2) have already been cast as the other members of the unit.


     Timothy Hutton (Conrad Cain on Kidnapped) plays former insurance investigator Nate Ford, a once-loyal corporate employee who had recovered millions of dollars in stolen goods for his employer. But when that employer denied his son’s insurance claims and allowed the boy to die, he realized he could no longer work for such an entity. Out of work and descending into alcoholism, Ford is hired by an aeronautics executive to recover airplane designs the executive claims were stolen by a rival company. Helping him are four highly skilled team members: Parker (Beth Riesgraf from Alvin and the Chipmunks), an expert thief; Alex Hardison (Aldis Hodge, Ray ‘Voodoo’ Tatom on Friday Night Lights), a specialist in Internet and computer fraud; Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane, Jack Chase on Close to Home & Lindsey on Angel), a high-octane “retrieval specialist” who can take out a gang of henchmen without breaking a sweat; and Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman, Jane Christie on Coupling), a grifter who could win awards for her acting skills during difficult scams.

The Cleaner
     Benjamin Bratt (Det. Rey Curtis on Law & Order) stars as a guy who devotes his life to saving people suffering from an addiction.

No Known Network Yet

The Saint (Barry Levinson)
     James Purefoy (Mark Antony on Rome) will star as master thief Simon Templar in a contemporary new take on The Saint, to be produced as an independent two-hour movie/backdoor pilot, which will then be shopped to the networks.
