This Week on TV – 1/4/09-1/10/09

Welcome to a new week of TV! Are you guys ready for the winter tv season to start? I am! Some great stuff coming up this week, so let’s get to it! Jump with me to see this week’s schedule!

Sunday is the series premiere of Confessions of a Teen Idol on VH1 at 8/7c. It’s comeback time for seven of the most famous hunks of the 80’s and 90’s. These men had it all- the fame, the money, the parties, and the girls. In their prime, these former idols not only graced the covers of teen magazines, but they could barely walk down the street without getting mobbed by a group of adoring fans. But those days of fame are now a distant memory. Today, these former heartthrobs have the opportunity to confront their career and personal mistakes and try to make their way back in to the limelight. Scott Baio, Jason Hervey and Cooper Lawrence are the principal cast.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Superstars of Dance on NBC at 9/8c. It will pit the masters of various dance genres from eight countries against each other. Equal parts sporting event, rock concert and artistic exhibition, it is poised to become one the greatest spectacles of dance performance ever seen on television. It’s hosted by Michael Flatley and Susie Castillo.

With the help of professional fitness trainer Jessie Pavelka and psychotherapist Stacy Kaiser, each woman will change her eating and exercise habits over the course of 3 months and confront the issues that caused her to gain weight initially.

Tonight is also the series premiere of True Beauty on ABC at 10/9c. Hosted and judged by Vanessa Minnillo (former host of TRL and ET), along with judges Cheryl Tiegs (America’s first supermodel, currently designer and author) and Nol Marin (America’s Next Top Model and fashion expert for E!, TV Guide, The Tyra Banks Show), the series will determine the “true beauty” of six stunning females and four handsome males who will live together in a spectacular Los Angeles mansion as they undergo a series of challenges to determine who is truly the most beautiful. The gorgeous contestants assume they’re being judged solely on their outer appearance. They’re only half right; outer beauty is one component the judges are looking for, but contestants are also being evaluated — unbeknownst to them — for their INNER beauty as well when they’re put through scenarios and situations that require them to make moral decisions. It is produced by Tyra Banks adn Ashton Kutcher among others.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Daddy’s Girls on MTV at 10:30/9:30c. Over the course of five seasons, fans have watched Vanessa and Angela Simmons grow up before their eyes on Run’s House. Now viewers can watch the sisters take a step toward independence as they make a permanent move to Los Angeles to set up a west coast office and showroom for their wildly successful pastry tennis shoe and apparel line, and so Vanessa can pursue her acting career. They might be 3000 miles away from home, but the lessons their father, Rev Run, has instilled are with them always… and the Rev is just a phone call away!

Each week, one unlucky victim will be “killed off” via frightening challenges and game-playing until only one person is left to win the grand prize of fittingly $66,666.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns on TBS at 10/9c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10:30/9:30c. It stars Leroy Brown (David Mann), one of Tyler Perry’s most popular characters, as he transforms his inheritance – a dilapidated house – into Brown Meadows.
