TV News – 7/8/09

Last night’s series premiere of 10 Things I Hate About You, wasn’t as good as I had hoped. It was a little scattered with it’s introductions of story lines and I was not impressed with Bianca’s character at all. In the original, although Bianca was the popular cheerleader type, she also had some substance and didn’t appear as desperate as Bianca in the show did. I don’t think it was the fault of the actress playing Bianca ( Meaghan Jette Martin ) , I just think it was poor scripting. The writers are going to have to step it up with some of the storylines if they want to keep people interested. That all being said, Larry Miller was very funny as the father and that made it all more bearable to watch. I give it solid 2.5 out of 5, with the promise to give a few weeks to get it’s footing before wiping it off my DVR schedule.

Now onto some news!!

According to Ausiello, Julie (Andrea Bowen) is coming home to Wisteria Lane for at least one episode next season. The last time Julie was on Desperate Housewives was when she was for a short visit on college break. She brought home her boyfriend that turned out to be her much older professor, played by Steven Weber. I have always enjoyed her character on the show, but I do hope that when she comes back it’s with the following conditions: #1- by herself, sans creepy old boyfriend, and #2- That they give her a decent storyline other than always being the supportive, daughter who takes care of her mom, Susan (Teri Hatcher). What are your thoughts?

Word has it that CSI: Miami’s season premiere will be a flashback episode told by Delko while he’s in a coma. It seems the episode will be about Delko’s first case with the Miami Police. I wonder if this means we’ll see Speed (Rory Cochrane) back? That could be a worthwhile episode, although is it just me or is it getting a little old with the “let’s almost kill off Delko” storylines? Oh well, you can check the out the article here. [Note from Jenny: Yeah, I used to LOVE Delko, but I’m so tired of it all that I wish they would just kill him off finally. I love the actor but the storylines, like you said, are getting a little old. *sigh* lol]

Love Jane Lynch on Party Down? Well, you’ll only be able to watch her on Glee now. Oh the horror. Lol. Just kidding. According to Zap2It, Lynch is unable to keep up the filming schedule for both shows so she’ll have to only do Glee. Glee is awesome and although the loss of her on Party Down will be sad, I am way more excited to see her as a regular on Glee. Her character of the head cheerleading coach was one the most hilarious characters of the pilot. I am looking forward to the new season in September… Can you tell? 🙂

The Disney Channel has announced that filming for Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, will begin this summer. Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers will all reprise their roles, with the storylines focusing on a rivalry between Camp Rock and their nemesis Camp Star. If you have tweens, teens or you yourself love to watch cheesy movies, look for it to premiere on The Disney Channel, sometime 2010. Full article with Zap2It.

One last piece of casting news that Jenny is particularly excited about. Christian Slater has joined the cast of The Forgotten on ABC, which premieres September 22nd. The show focuses on a team of dedicated amateurs “The Forgotten Network” who work on murder cases involving unidentified victims. After the police have given up, this group, led by Alex Donovan (Slater), must first solve the puzzle of the victim’s identity in order to then help catch the killer. These are ordinary people solving extraordinary crimes, and their persistence and compassion put them on a personal and emotional journey to give names back to the deceased.
