This Week on TV – 8/9/09-8/15/09

Welcome to a new week of TV! Lots on this week again, although I think it’s a *bit* more calm this week than last! I know, that isn’t saying much! But at least Sunday itself isn’t quite as bad! So let’s get to it and see what you’ll be watching and recording this week! Jump with me to view this week’s schedule!

Sunday is the season finale of 4 shows. First up is Law & Order: CI at 9/8c, followed by In Plain Sight at 10/9c, both on USA. Also at 10/9c are the season finales of Brooke Knows Best on VH1 and Jesse James Is a Dead Man on Spike TV.

Tonight is the series premiere of 2 new shows. First up is Shark Tank on ABC at 9/8c. The show gives budding entrepreneurs the chance to make their business dreams come true and become successful and possibly wealthy. But the entrepreneurs must first try to convince five tough, multi-millionaire tycoons to part with their own hard-earned cash and give them the funding they need to jump-start their ideas. The “sharks” include: Barbara Corcoran (Manhattan real estate titan), Daymond John (fashion mogul), Kevin Harrington (king of infomercials), Kevin O’Leary (venture capitalist) & Robert Herjavec (technology tycoon).

The other new series premiering tonight is There Goes the Neighborhood on CBS, also at 9/8c. Hosted by Matt Rogers, the series features eight families in a suburban neighborhood who are enclosed by a massive 20-foot wall as they compete in family-friendly games for the grand prize of $250,000. In what promises to be the ultimate social and family bonding experiment, this neighborhood will be cut off from the outside world as it becomes family vs. family in a competition to win upgrades for their lives and their homes. With virtually no electricity and no ability to text-message, watch television or surf the Internet, these families will be forced to reconnect and work together as a team. For the duration of the competition, the eight homes will be surrounded by the daunting wall with no way in or out. Each week, another family will be voted out of the game until one victorious group remains to claim the $250,000 grand prize.

There are also 2 season premieres tonight. Premiering before the new Shark Tank on ABC, is Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? at 8/7c. Yes, no lie. It’s back. It’s the 10th anniversary and they are back with a 2 week special season. Also tonight is the 90-minute season premiere of Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew on MTV at 9/8c.

Finally, there are 2 specials and some football tonight. The first of the two specials is Kendra, a 1-hour ‘Straight From the Heart’ special on E! at 10/9c. Second is the 90-minute The Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers on Comedy Central, also at 10/9c.

Finally, tonight is Sunday Night Football: Preseason: Bills vs Titans (the Hall of Fame Game) on NBC at 8/7c.

Tonight is the series premiere of Swords: Life On the Line on the Discovery Channel at 9/8c. The show takes us out to sea in pursuit of massive blue-fin tuna and the elusive swordfish, with the fathers, sons, old salts and greenhorns for whom the ocean is more than just where they make a living: it’s a way of life.

Also, tonight is the series premiere of Into the Pride on Animal Planet at 8/7c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 9/8c. Animal Planet’s large predator expert Dave Salmoni embarks on the most transformative mission of his lifeand also the most relevant one. Leaving the city life of Toronto, Salmoni heads deep into the Namibian bush to spend six months ALONE among a pride of lions and the diverse and often deadly wildlife in Africa. His mission is twofold to return to his wild roots and to head ‘into the pride’ to save a rogue pride of lions from elimination. After spending much time in the “urban jungle” as a host and executive producer, Salmoni is given the ultimate opportunity to reconnect with two of his lasting passions the serenity and solitude of living in the wild and his love of big cats, particularly lions. The show takes viewers along with Salmoni on a tenuous journey accompanied by a camera crew by day and completely alone once darkness falls. Setting up camp deep within Namibia’s Erindi Private Game Reserve, Salmoni spends each solitary night while African game roam through his campground. He awakes early each and every morning determined to get closer and closer to the lions he’s trying to save.
