This Week on TV – 2/7/10-2/13/10

Welcome to a new week of TV! The week starts off slow on Sunday because of the Super Bowl XLIV on CBS, but quickly picks up speed. The rest of the week is really busy, although it slows down a bunch on Friday because of the start of the Olympic Winter Games 2010 on NBC. So check it out! Jump with me to view this week’s schedule!

Sunday

Sunday is Super Bowl XLIV on CBS, with the Kick-off Show starting at 6/5c, followed by the game at 6:28/5:28c.

Following that is the series premiere of Undercover Boss on CBS at 10/9c (or thereabouts). The show follows high-level chief executives as they slip anonymously into the rank and file of their company. Each week a different executive will leave the comfort of their corner office for an undercover mission to examine the inner workings of their companies. While working alongside their employees, they will see the effects their decisions have on others, where the problems lie within their organization and get an up-close look at both the good and the bad while discovering the unsung heroes who make their company run.

Tuesday

Tuesday is the series finale of The Jay Leno Show on NBC at 10/9c. It’s also the season finale of Howe & Howe Tech on the Discovery Channel, also at 10/9c.

Tonight is the series premiere of Past Life on FOX at 9/8c. Have you ever experienced déjà vu or met someone you thought seemed familiar? Do you believe in karma, fate or love at first sight? Have you ever had an out-of-body experience? From writer David Hudgins (Friday Night Lights), and inspired by the book “The Reincarnationist” by M.J. Rose, this new drama series investigates the world of the unexplained through the eyes of a doctor and a former detective who must work together to solve decades- old mysteries. DR. KATE MCGINN (Kelli Giddish) is not your typical psychologist. Confident, outspoken and highly educated, she works at The Talmadge Center for Behavioral Health in New York City, a world-renowned institute dedicated to the study of the science of the soul. After experiencing a past-life regression in her 20s, Kate became a believer in reincarnation. Using therapy and her natural gift for reading people, Kate helps solve the mysteries of her troubled clients by investigating their consciousness. She believes there are levels of consciousness and explanations for human behavior that science can’t begin to explain. Accustomed to skeptics, but not bothered by them, Kate is an unapologetic believer and a force of nature who marches to the beat of her own drum. Her partner, PRICE WHATLEY (Nicholas Bishop), is a different story. A former NYPD homicide detective, pragmatic and cynical, Price is a damaged soul who constantly battles grief and guilt over the accidental death of his wife. Price feels that Kate, though not certifiable, certainly operates on the fringes of science. It’s a volatile relationship, but with Price’s solid detective skills and Kate’s penchant for out-of-the-box thinking, together they make a formidable, albeit somewhat dysfunctional, team.

It’s also the series premiere of Famous Crime Scene on VH1 at 9/8c. The show will return to the scene of some of pop culture and music’s most shocking deaths. The first episode will take an in-depth look at the murder of Tupac Shakur. The additional six episodes will investigate the untimely deaths of Biggie Smalls, John Lennon, Anna Nicole Smith, Selena, Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson. While news accounts tell only part of the story, VH1 has rounded up the witnesses and investigators who were there to give viewers the intimate details from the initial 911 call to the investigators’ final determination to help piece together what really happened. Using expert interviews and true-to-life reenactments, as well as advanced computer graphics, viewers will witness full recreations of these historic events. They’ll tour virtual crime scenes searching for clues and learn the science behind the investigators’ findings: ballistics, fingerprints, DNA evidence, toxicology, profiling and more.

Saturday

Saturday is the 2-hour series premiere of Survivors on BBC America at 8/7c. Set in the present day, the new series focuses on the world in the aftermath of a virulent disease that scoured the planet, wiping out 99% of the human race. Only a lonely few are left to start over in a devastated world where everything that was once safe and familiar is now strange and dangerous. A bewildered but resilient group of survivors is led by Abby Grant, a woman whose strength comes from a burning need to find out if her young son is still alive. Other members of the group include Greg (a good man who hides the pain of his past), Anya (a doctor who has seen too many people die) and Al, a former playboy who becomes surrogate father to streetwise urchin Najid. Then there is Tom, outwardly handsome and charming, but actually a dangerous and ruthless man who, unbeknown to the others, was a high-security prisoner before the virus hit. This brave new world brings an opportunity for new beginnings, but also terrible dangers – not just the daily struggle for food and water, but also a deadly threat from other survivors.
