This Week on TV – 4/18/10-4/24/10

Welcome to a new week of TV! Some great stuff on TV this week, including the season (possible series) finale of Damages on Monday and several more finales and premieres throughout the week. So check it out! Jump with me to view this week’s schedule!

Sunday

Sunday is the season finales of 3 shows. First up is a new episode of Life on the Discovery Channel at 8/7c, followed by the season finale at 9/8c.

It’s also the season finale of Ax Men on the History Channel at 10/9c.

Tonight is also the season finale of Ultimate Recipe Showdown on Food Network at 9/8c. Following that is the season premiere of Chefs vs City at 10/9c.

There are 3 specials tonight. First up is the 3-hour The 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards special on CBS at 8/7c.

Second is a TV movie, Beauty & The Briefcase, on ABC Family at 8/7c. The movie is based on the book Diary of a Working Girl by Daniella Brodsky, and stars Hilary Duff as Lane Daniels, a bright effervescent fashion journalist whose career and love life intersect in a complicated way when she pitches the article “Switching Careers to Find Love” to Cosmopolitan magazine – her favorite magazine and ultimate career aspiration. Lane can’t believe her luck when the editor goes for it in a big way, handing her the professional opportunity of a lifetime – a potential cover story! In order to pull the undercover story off, Lane must first land a corporate job. From there, her mandate is simple – find lots of eligible guys in suits in the office and date as many as possible! She quickly learns that going to work at the investment bank, Thompson/Fulworth, doesn’t just mean wearing a nice suit and going to lunch. Luckily, Lane’s new boss, Tom (Michael McMillian), takes her under his wing and teaches her the ropes. As she navigates her way through the corporate world, she also meets Seth (Matt Dallas, Kyle XY), a hottie on whom she develops a crush after he comes to her rescue when the copy machine goes haywire. But her perfect plan goes awry when she meets Liam (Chris Carmack, The OC), a gorgeous music producer with a British accent who sweeps her off her feet outside the office. Her editor’s (Jaime Pressly, My Name is Earl) rules for the story are clear – Lane can only date the businessmen where she works – so Liam is strictly off limits! Lane is forced to choose between what she believes might be love and her Cosmo cover story – and the results are far from what she expected to find!

Monday

Tonight is also the series premiere of Romantically Challenged on ABC at 9:32/8:32c. This new comedy is about four friends trying to find love and happiness while navigating their way through today’s tricky world of dating. Smart and beautiful Rebecca (Alyssa Milano, Charmed) is recently divorced after 15 years of marriage. Having never really dated before she was married – and not having been on a date since Clinton was in office — she finds it scary to start over now. Although a gifted mom and lawyer, she is clueless about dating and hopes to get some help from her equally romantically challenged friends. Perry (Kyle Bornheimer, Worst Week) is Rebecca’s best friend since childhood. He is a rugged man’s man and a tremendously successful financial planner — but also one of Pittsburgh’s most sensitive hopeless romantics. When it comes to matters of the heart, Perry is a romance-aholic who falls in love with women 20 minutes after meeting them. After 40 minutes, he’s already naming their future children. A struggling novelist, the witty and affable Shawn (Josh Lawson) has been Perry’s best friend and rent-free roommate for six years. Shawn is the emotionally unavailable cynic to Perry’s hopeless romantic. He has never had a relationship more serious than a three-night stand – and even those send him running for the door. Rounding out the group is Rebecca’s petite, baby sister, Lisa (Kelly Stables, Two and a Half Men, Greek). Behind her deceptively sweet appearance is a sassy pit bull ready to protect her older sister. Although a nurturing kindergarten teacher, she has a wild side too, and sees a “threesome” as “second base.” Will these four romantically challenged friends ever find lasting love? Or even someone who lasts until next Thursday?

Tonight is also a ‘Top Gear‘ special for Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on BBC America at 9:40/8:40c.
