American Idol Top 7 – 4/21/10

Last night’s American Idol appeared to be more of a two man race or that could just have been my take on things. On another note I love Alicia Keys and it was great to see her as a mentor. For my thoughts on the show, jump with me. Don’t read if you haven’t watched and don’t want to be spoiled.

Casey James
Don’t Stop by Fleetwood Mac
My Thoughts: I found it boring, really boring. It’s true that Casey has a good voice (notice I didn’t say great) and that he is an AMAZING guitarist, but he’s just not leading man quality.
Judges: They were not overly impressed. Simon thought he lacked emotion and it was a lazy choice of songs.

Lee Dewyze
The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkle
My Thoughts: I loved it. I really did. He looked vulnerable and really connected with the song. He’s just heads and shoulders above everyone else besides Crystal.
Judges: They loved it. Simon said it was brilliant and Ellen thought it was beautiful.

Tim Urban
Better Days by Goo-Goo Dolls
My Thoughts: He really doesn’t deserve to be there, and I know I say it week after week, but it’s the truth. Tonight wasn’t as awful as other weeks, but it was painful none the less. I really enjoy the Goo-Goo Dolls and I felt angry that he made this song sound like rubbish. If America gets it right, he’ll be in the bottom 3.
Judges: They didn’t like it. Ellen compared him to the soup of the day, and said she didn’t enjoy the soup today.

Aaron Kelly
I Believe I Can Fly by R. Kelly
My Thoughts: He tried really hard and it wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t good either. It did have some good moments towards the end but he’s not ready yet. I just wish he would go home right along with Tim Urban, but the only difference is that I hope Aaron works on his singing and eventually puts out a record when he’s ready. While I hope that Tim just stops singing and finds a new profession.
Judges: Kara thought he got it by the end, while Ellen made reference to the 70’s and flying. 😀 Simon said he’d turn off the radio if he heard it on the radio he would have shut it off. I agree with Simon.

Siobhan Magnus
When You Believe by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey
My Thoughts: I wasn’t overwhelmed with compliments for her after this. It’s not that I don’t like her, because I do but she just didn’t earn the wow factor tonight. Big song, big voice, big flop. Harsh? Maybe but I’m over her big voice, you have to give more and I didn’t feel it. On the other hand her outfit was interesting perhaps she should consider fashion designing?
Judges: Ellen loved it, but Kara thought it was too dramatic. I agree with Kara, it was dramatic and I’m over it.

Mike Lynche
Hero by Nickelback
My Thoughts: Not good. It was rocky, and off key. America had it right a couple weeks ago, shame on you judges.
I wish I liked him more, but I really didn’t like it tonight. It was the wrong song choice for him.
Judges: They over complimented him, but frankly why wouldn’t they because they have to back up the decision they made.

Crystal Bowersox
People Get Ready by The Impressions
My Thoughts: WOW! She sang for the first time without an instrument and started it out a capella, it was flawless. I loved when she started getting teary eyed towards the end of the song and it made me love her even more. Crystal is in a class of her own and deserves to win it now.
Judges: Randy gave her a standing ovation and Ellen thought she looked beautiful. I agreed with both of them and I feel that this was one of her crowning moments.

Overall, the night was a battle between Lee and Crystal, unfortunately I don’t believe America is going to vote right. Sorry 😉 I just feel that too many tweens are going to keep Aaron and Tim around. If it was up to me, then I would put Tim, Aaron and Mike in the bottom three or trade Siobhan out for Tim or Aaron. Either scenario I’d be content with. Watch American Idol tonight on FOX starting at 8 pm and last 2 hours for your results and Idol Gives Back.

Definitely agree with everything you said here – Crystal was A-MA-ZING ! A whole other class of awesome – that was definitely a shining moment. . . . and then Lee comes in second but everyone else might as well have not turned up!
