If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/24/10

Megan’s Choice

The series premiere of Rookie Blue is a definite must watch. I would usually tell you to check out the results show of So You Think You Can Dance but I can’t with such a fabulous show premiering.

I was a huge fan of Everwood so having Gregory Smith back on my TV weekly makes me happier than you could even imagine. Add that to the wonderful Missy Peregrym, who used to be on one of my other favorite shows, Reaper and it’s like this TV addict just won the lottery. Too much? Oh well, I’m pimping it anyways!

Jump ahead for more on my choice and to check out Jenny’s choice.

Rookie Blue is a cop show that is more character driven than anything, the pilot was fantastic. I urge you to give the show a chance even though it’s another police show, this one is different I promise! Check it out tonight at 9/8c on ABC.

Jenny’s Choice

Normally, I’d have chosen Burn Notice in a heartbeat, but tonight is the series premiere of Rookie Blue on ABC, and I just have to recommend it to everyone. This new drama follows the lives of five young, ambitious cops right out of the Academy. It stars Missy Peregrym (Reaper), Gregory Smith (Everwood), Travis Milne, Enuka Okuma (Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye), Charlotte Sullivan & Eric Johnson (Flash Gordon, Smallville).

I have seen the pilot, and to me, Rookie Blue feels a lot like Grey’s Anatomy. Fresh-faced “interns” basically looking like the wet-behind-the-ears newbies they are. Some successes, some tremendous failures, some flirtation with more seasoned cops & detectives, etc etc. Got some you love, some you can already tell you don’t like, some that are meh, and some that surprise you. Even one lead character that has a parent that used to be a big shot at the job, just like Meredith Grey & her mother. It is a cop show and Grey’s Anatomy combined, which, to me at least, makes for great TV. Catch the premiere tonight on ABC at 9/8c.
