TV News – 7/29/10

The TV world is buzzing with news today, so let’s skip the small talk and get straight to it!

Ellen DeGeneres will not be returning to American Idol next season as a judge. The comedian and talk-show host admits that, “while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings.” I never did feel like Ellen fit on the panel, because frankly she was too nice, but I did enjoy her humour. Nigel Lythgoe, who is more than likely returning as the executive producer of Idol next season, thinks they should go back to the three judge format, instead of replacing both Simon and Ellen. On the topic of Simon’s replacement, we are being told to hope for the big announcement to be made at the Monday press tour session. I, for one, would like to know who the big replacement is going to be, and my fingers are crossed for Harry Connick Jr. What are you thoughts on Ellen leaving and who should replace Simon Cowell? Sound off below. Source

More after the jump.

Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing) will be guest starring on House this season playing Abbey, a mom who’s baby girl is facing a life-threatening illness. It’s going to be a drastic case, and an emotional rollercoaster, don’t miss the episode when it airs in mid-October. Source

The USA Network has renewed the fabulous drama, In Plain Sight for two more seasons, rounding the number of seasons up to five. I really enjoy In Plain Sight, and think that Mary McCormack and Frederick Weller are simply a must for our weekly television, don’t you? Source

It appears that Clayne Crawford (24) has signed onto the new HBO drama, All Signs of Death. The drama will have the genius of Alan Ball behind it so it’s bound to be fabulous. Crawford will play a “sexy, greaser who runs a tattoo parlour”, and is the best friend of Ben Whishaw’s character. The show is based on the book by Charlie Huston. I’m excited for this new show and as soon as I know more details so will you. 😀 Source

That’s all for today. Don’t miss an all new episode of So You Think You Can Dance tonight, where they will eliminate two dancers, tonight on FOX at 9 pm.
