This Week on TV – 9/5/10-9/12/10

Welcome to a new week of TV! It’s here, it’s here! The new season starts this week (although it won’t get into the full swing of things for another week or two), and I am thrilled! You? The new site design should be up today, Sunday, so if the site goes down later, don’t be worried! We’ll have it back up shortly! Don’t forget to comment or Tweet @tvismypacifier to let us know what YOU are planning to watch this week! Jump with me to view this week’s schedule.

Sunday

Sunday is the season finale of 3 shows. First up is the season finale of Samantha Brown’s Asia on the Travel Channel at 8AM/7AMc. Then Sunday night, it’s the finale of Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch at 9/8c, followed by the finale of The T.O. Show at 10/9c, both on VH1.

Tonight is also the series premiere of All American Handyman on HGTV at 9/8c. Twenty Americans from across the country have nailed the chance to be crowned the “handiest of them all” in the new HGTV series, hosted by the talented Molly Culver. The goal of the series: to find America’s best handyman (or handywoman), the one with real skill, integrity and the right stuff to impress the judges. To avoid elimination, contestants must showcase their abilities under the watchful gaze of HGTV’s celebrity judges Mike Holmes, Holmes on Homes and Scott McGillivray, Income Property plus a secret weekly judge. All 20 contestants have proven they’ve got what it takes but only one will walk away with the coveted title of “All American Handyman,” a $10,000 Sears prize package and an HGTV development deal.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Freaky Eaters on TLC at 10/9c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10:30/9:30c. Viewers will learn about the struggles of an unusual and often overlooked segment of the population – those with a bizarre compulsion towards a particular food. From an addiction to cheeseburgers to an obsession with sugar – these freaky eating habits are explored in this fascinating and eye-opening series. Each episode tells the story of one Freaky Eater as he or she is forced to confront the painful truth behind the food obsession and come face to face with the destructive side effects. Two experts, Psychotherapist Dr. Mike Dow and Nutrition Specialist J.J. Virgin, will stage a food intervention in a bid to help this individual overcome the culinary compulsion.

The third series premiere tonight is Mel B: It’s a Scary World on the Style Network at 10/9c. International pop music sensation Mel B (aka Scary Spice) is all grown up, and what a woman she has become! The curvaceous and leggy superstar, dynamic author and candid television personality has gone from party girl to power mom and wife, with the outspoken personality and no-holds-barred approach to life that thrust her into the headlines. Style’s new 10 episode docu-comedy captures the hectic daily life of the driven, jet-setting performer, from the career highs and lows that are part of any entertainer’s daily existence to the challenges of juggling career and family. The difficult task of achieving her many career goals while raising two grounded daughters Angel (3) and Phoenix (11) and finding quality time for her loving husband Stephen, might bring a lesser woman to her knees. However, the “Scary Spice” spirit is a force unto itself and seemingly nothing can stop Mel B from getting what she wants. From red carpet events, international business enterprises and live performances, to meetings, romantic dinners and household responsibilities, Style’s cameras are there to see how Mel gets it all done!

The last premiere tonight is the season premiere of Jerseylicious on the Style Network at 9/8c.

Finally, tonight is a game of Sunday Night Football: Preseason: Pittsburgh at Denver on NBC at 8/7c.

Tonight is the season premiere of America’s Next Top Model on the CW at 8/7c.

Following that is the series premiere of Hellcats on the CW at 9/8c. The show is a coming-of-age story about Marti Perkins, a young, pre-law student at Lancer University in Memphis, Tennessee. Marti is cool, hip and alt, but her world flips upside down, literally and figuratively, when she loses her scholarship, and realizes the only way she can stay in school is by reigniting her dormant teen gymnastic skills to win a place on Lancer’s legendary cheerleading team, The Hellcats. Against her every instinct, Marti goes for it and makes the squad, and is thrust into a world of camaraderie, backstabbing and the intersection of sports, backroom academia and big money. Marti’s new roommate, Savannah Monroe, a petite, peppy Texan, is among the diverse cast of athletes, undergrads, family and friends, all set on the sprawling campus of a powerhouse college football program in the deep South. The series stars Aly Michalka (Bandslam, Phil of the Future) as Marti Perkins, Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical, Suite Life of Zach & Cody) as Savannah Monroe, Heather Hemmens as Alice Verdura, Robbie Jones (One Tree Hill) as Lewis Flynn, Matt Barr (Harper’s Island) as Dan Patch, with Sharon Leal as Vanessa Lodge and Gail O’Grady (NYPD Blue) as Wanda Perkins.

Thursday

Thursday is a new episode of Rookie Blue on ABC at 9/8c, followed by the season finale at 10/9c.

Tonight is the season premiere of The Vampire Diaries on the CW at 8/7c, followed by the series premiere of Nikita on the CW at 9/8c. When she was a deeply troubled teenager, Nikita was rescued from death row by a secret U.S. agency known only as Division, who faked her execution and told her she was being given a second chance to start a new life and serve her country. What they didn’t tell her was that she was being trained as a spy and assassin. Ultimately, Nikita was betrayed and her dreams shattered by the only people she thought she could trust. Now, after three years in hiding, Nikita is seeking retribution and making it clear to her former bosses that she will stop at nothing to expose and destroy their covert operation. For the time being, however, Division continues to recruit and train other young people, erasing all evidence of their former lives and turning them into cold and efficient killers. One of these new recruits, Alex, is just beginning to understand what lies ahead for her and why the legendary Nikita made the desperate decision to run. The series stars Maggie Q (Mission Impossible III) as Nikita, Lyndsy Fonseca (Kick-Ass) as Alex, Shane West (ER, Once and Again) as Michael, Aaron Stanford (X-Men: The Last Stand) as Birkhoff, Ashton Holmes (Boston Legal) as Thom, Tiffany Hines (Bones) as Jaden, with Melinda Clarke (The OC) as Amanda and Xander Berkeley (24) as Percy.

Tonight is also the season premiere of Destination Truth on Syfy at 9/8c, followed by the series premiere of Beast Legends on Syfy at 10/9c. The six-part series journeys around the world using scientific data to reconstruct what mythological monsters, from Krakens and Griffins to Fire Dragons, would have been like – if they had ever existed. In each of the hour-long episodes, Beast Legends uncovers historical and eyewitness accounts by zeroing in on archaeological and other physical evidence to assemble the most accurate picture possible of these monsters, from where they might have lived to how they would have behaved. The show then uses the information to create incredibly realistic CG animations of the creatures.
