If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/4/11

Ugh, running behind today, because I couldn’t get to sleep last night, and then after I finally did fall asleep around 6:00 this morning, I was woke up when my husband’s alarm went off at 7:00, then again at 8:00 when my son left. I’ve been awake since. My eyes hurt and I’m exhausted. Happy day. Luckily, there’s some new TV on tonight to make me happy after what is sure to be a long day, so let’s get to it!

Like last night, my choice for tonight is a reality show. Tonight is the 2-hour series premiere of Live to Dance on CBS at 8/7c. Paula Abdul is back, after leaving her job as judge on American Idol a couple of seasons ago. In one of the most inclusive talent searches on television, dancers with raw ability, in any age group from across the nation (either performing solo or in a group) can audition in any form of dancing – ballet to break dance, tap to tango, or their own unique fusion of styles – rock ballet, hip-hop clogging or contemporary mixed with capoeira. The most talented dancers who make it through the callback process will have the chance to perform live in the semi-finals and finals, where they will battle for the right to be crowned champion and be awarded a $500,000 prize. Executive producer, lead expert and mentor Paula Abdul will be joined by host Andrew Günsberg and fellow experts, choreographer Travis Payne and singer/dancer Kimberly Wyatt.

The third season of Southland kicks off tonight, and you’ll thank the TV Gods (or the execs at TNT) for rescuing this show from cancellation over at NBC. If you don’t know the backstory, the short version is Southland premiered on NBC in the Spring of 2009, was picked up for a 2nd season, and then cancelled before those episodes could air. It was never a matter of quality, but more than likely something to do with Jay Leno’s disastrous moves to prime time that pushed out so many great shows. NBC’s loss is TNT’s gain, however. The network picked up the show, aired all the produced episodes and now brings us a brand new season.

In tonight’s episode, Det. Lydia Adams (the amazing Regina King) bumps heads with a new female partner, while Officer John Cooper is finding a bad back and the painkillers he’s taking are getting in the way of his work, which leaves his partner Officer Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) trying to figure out how to handle this situation.

I’ve already seen the first two new episodes, and Southland is as solid as they come. Make sure to watch on TNT at 10/9c tonight and every Tuesday night. Learn where to find episodes online of Southland @ Clicker.

They’re here!!! V, the out of this world phenomena of a show that sucked you in last year, returns tonight with a brand new episode and with a new season that is sure to thrill any science fiction junkie! They invaded the planet last season and have befriended most of the humans, but does this outer space species really come in peace?

Tonight, Ryan is kept in isolation on the mothership so that Anna can experiment on his baby. Chad wants to fight with the Fifth Column, while Erica seeks out a scientist who can possibly explain Red Sky.

Tonight is the season premiere of Southland on TNT at 10/9c. This hard hitting police drama has had a tough run with network cancellation, but now it’s on a cable network, and all is well! I can’t help but love it, because it has the adorable Ben McKenzie (The O.C.) and he’s fabulous in this.

On tonight’s episode, Lydia and her new partner hunt a cleaning lady’s killer. John and Ben rescue an officer during a bank robbery shoot-out. Nate and Sammy investigate the murder of a gang member.

Tune in tonight on TNT at 10/9c and see how season 3 of this drama unfolds. Learn where to find episodes online of Southland @ Clicker.
