If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/30/11

This is a crazy day for me (Jenny), so I’m going to jump right in. Everyone welcome back Jethro to this week’s Remote posts! Now let’s get to it!

Jethro’s Choice

Hello everyone, I’m Jethro Nededog, a writer/reporter at Zap2it. Thrilled to be joining the crew of TVIsMyPacifier.com for a second time on “If We Controlled Your Remote…” I watch all kinds of TV, but I have a soft spot for shows considered by some to be “guilty pleasures.” So, expect my choices this week to include some camp, some reality and soapy drama.

It’s one of my new favorite shows and I look forward to it all week. If you’re not watching Showtime’s new series, Shameless, I implore you to give it a try. In Episode 3, we found out that the Gallagher home belongs to their Aunt Ginger, who the kids had never met, but believed was in a nursing home. It turns out that she has been dead for years and dad, Frank (William H. Macy), had been cashing her disability payments. When the government began to get suspicious, the gang nabbed a senile old lady to act as Ginger. Everything worked out with the government, but younger sister, Debbie (Emma Kenney) grew attached to the woman, and it seems she isn’t taking her absence very well. In Episode 4, Debbie steals some kid to fill the void.

My pick tonight is kind of an odd choice, really, but I’m doing it for 2 reasons. I’ve seen the episode already, and it is a tear-filled, painful, but fun two hours. Ty and the team help a family still reeling from the death of their daughter/sister, who died in a texting-and-driving accident, and a group of celebrities, including Justin Bieber and Emma Roberts make appearances. The youngest of two daughters gets surprised when she gets to meet Justin Bieber. The whole reaction and interaction with that is great, and one of the reasons I chose this for tonight’s post.

The second reason is because of the family’s message. Their daughter died on the way to school when she lost control of her truck while texting. It’s a serious problem, and one that is so very easily preventable. Please watch tonight and take away that message and actually learn something. At the end of the episode, they will give you a link that you can go to, where you can take the same pledge they all do in the episode. I’ve already been and “signed” my name. I plan to watch the episode again tonight with my husband and son, and after it airs, we’ll talk to our son about not texting while he walks across the street, etc, and then my husband and son will both sign the pledge. Will you?

Tonight’s 2-hour episode airs on ABC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition @ Clicker.

Tonight is a rather slow night for television, but there is a new TV movie on that looks interesting. The Lost Valentine is a Hallmark special movie, and I wouldn’t usually have this as my suggestion, but it stars the adorable Jennifer Love Hewitt and the incredibly talented Betty White.

The movie follows a TV reporter (Hewitt) as she embarks on a Valentine’s Day-themed assignment to profile a woman (White), whose love for her husband remains as strong as when she last saw him several months before he was declared MIA while serving in WWII. This assignment ends up affecting the reporter’s love life, as well.

Tune in to CBS at 8/7c to watch this seasonal movie that is bound to make you laugh, cry, and feel all warm and tingly by the end.

It’s going to be really hard to tear yourself away from the SAG Awards tonight, but this show is definitely going to be worth the watch. A show that has really struck a chord with a lot of TV watches is Worst Cooks In America, because funny enough, many of us don’t know how to cook! We’re in the era of microwave ovens, frozen food, instant maccaroni, and more, all of which really don’t require much hands on cooking. A show where two trained chefs can teach America on the art of cooking and how uncomplicated it can be, now that’s an education!

Tonight, teams work together to unscramble recipes and cook their dish all while they are being secretly watched. For the Main Dish Challenge, the recruits will cater a party for an NFL star and his guests.

Catch an all new episode tonight at 9/8c on Food Network! Learn where to find episodes online of Worst Cooks in America @ Clicker.
