The second is the premiere of Secret Millionaire on ABC at 8/7c. Based on the hit UK series of the same name, each episode follows one of America’s most successful business people for one week as they leave behind the comforts of home and their true identities to live and volunteer in some of the most impoverished neighborhoods in the country. Assuming new identities and living in local housing on welfare-level wages, their mission is to discover the most deserving individuals within the community who continually sacrifice everything to help those in need, and ultimately encourage others to do the same. Throughout this incredible, life-changing experience, the Secret Millionaires come face to face with extraordinary people who put their own needs aside for the sake of others. At the end of the Secret Millionaire’s journey, in an emotional and dramatic climax, they reveal their true identities and donate their own money to these community activists, changing lives forever and encouraging others to keep giving back.
The third series premiere is Love & Hip Hop on VH1 at 9/8c. When people think of the hip hop life, they think of the men who shape the music and the blinged-out lifestyle that comes with success. But it’s not always so glamorous for the ladies involved, the wives, girlfriends and artists, because in this world, the men still call almost every shot. The show follows five dynamic women who are connected to the world of hip hop, whether it’s through the men they love or their struggle to be heard as artists. Chrissy Lampkin has been quietly advising and standing behind her man, hip hop star Jim Jones, for 8 years. Now she’s looking for a little more glory and a lot more commitment. Emily Bustamante has a beautiful baby boy with the rapper Fabolous; but she wants more – a ring and a more public role in his world. And that might be more than he’s willing to give. Olivia Longott, the former first lady of G-Unit is done living in the shadows and determined to make it on her own as a solo artist. Latina internet sensation, Somaya ‘Boss’ Reece has a fierce determination to launch her rap career and become known for more than just her sexy curves. And Mashonda Tifrere, ex-wife of producer Swizz Beatz, who is putting her life back together after her dreams were shattered by a devastating and very public divorce. Will these women have what it takes to survive the chaos of the hip hop game and realize their dreams? “Love & Hip Hop” provides a dramatic, funny and sometimes heartbreaking look into the female side of the New York hip hop life as these five women try to claim their place in it.
The fourth series premiere is Breakout Kings on A&E at 10/9c. From Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora, writers/producers of the hit series Prison Break, comes Breakout Kings, a new action-packed ensemble drama following an unconventional partnership between the U.S. Marshals’ office and a group of convicts as they work to catch fugitives on the run. After 72 hours, the odds of finding an escaped prisoner drop to less than five percent. Knowing that there are few things more dangerous than a convict on the run, and tired of outdated methods of law enforcement, veteran U.S. Marshals Charlie Duchamp (Laz Alonso) and Ray Zancanelli (Domenick Lombardozzi, The Wire, Entourage) decide to reject protocol and take an unorthodox approach to their work: using former fugitives to catch current ones. The series also stars Brooke Nevin, Jimmi Simpson, Malcolm Goodwin, and Serinda Swan.
The fifth series premiere is Coming Home on Lifetime at 10/9c. In paying tribute to American armed forces personnel and their families, Coming Home will follow the unforgettable and inspiring surprise reunions of soldiers from all five branches of the military with their spouses, children, parents and other loved ones as they return home from active duty throughout the world. Hosted by former American Idol finalist Matt Rogers, each of the program’s 13 hour-long episodes will highlight five reunions featuring soldiers and their emotional stories. With hundreds of thousands of members of the armed forces serving the country in the Middle East and elsewhere across the globe, military family reunions have become a sensation online, where millions of people have been inspired watching touching footage of loved ones and friends re-connecting with one another after enduring long periods of time apart.
The sixth series premiere tonight is Taking on Tyson on Animal Planet at 10/9c. Heavyweight boxing legend and Brooklyn native Mike Tyson always has loved breeding and raising pigeons. These birds have been an integral part of his life from his childhood. In fact, Mike threw his first punch when a neighborhood bully killed one of his beloved pigeons and threw it in his face. Of course, Mike would go on to be one of the most famous, and infamous, champions in boxing (and sports) history. And through it all, his pigeons and his rooftop pigeon coops remained his one constant and secret solace. Now, Mike goes beyond just raising his feathered friends – he will race them for the very first time. With unprecedented access to the neighborhood haunts he grew up in and lifelong friends who surround him, this docudrama introduces audiences to the highly competitive, bizarrely fascinating subculture of pigeon racing. The stakes are high in a sport that has just as much machismo as boxing. But this time it’s not about money; it’s about bragging rights.
The final series premiere tonight is After Lately on E! at 11/10c. Throughout television history, there have been shows about workplaces and even shows that take viewers behind-the-scenes of fictional shows. However, there has never been a show featuring the actual staff of a real late night comedy series… until now. After Lately gives viewers a hilarious peek at the always unpredictable people and often ridiculous events behind the making of late night television’s most unconventional talk show. The show stars Chelsea Handler & more.
