If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/18/11

It’s Wednesday, and what a week it’s been for TV! There have been some season finales that have met or surpassed what I hoped and expected (Castle or NCIS: LA, anyone?) and some that have totally missed the mark, as far as I’m concerned (NCIS sadly!). There is still a lot on this week, including big episodes of Law & Order: SVU & Criminal Minds tonight and Bones tomorrow. Have you been enjoying all the great new episodes? Let us know!

This season of Criminal Minds has been odd for me. I still love the show, still love the characters and the cases, but…dropping AJ Cook and Paget Brewster was a horrible decision, in my opinion. Luckily, CBS is beginning to rectify their mistake, as JJ returns on tonight’s season finale, and will be a series regular again next season! No word yet on Paget Brewster’s Emily Prentiss, but since Paget’s comedy pilot was not picked up by another network, she is free, so I believe the folks behind the scenes are going to ask her back for next season. I’ve got my fingers crossed! In true Criminal Minds fashion, tonight’s season finale promises to be nail biting for our beloved BAUers, with a possible shakeup for the team in the works.

Tonight, the bodies of two missing persons are found in a car trunk, and the BAU thinks an interstate human trafficking ring is at work. Hotch warns the team of possible changes, and the team is surprised when a beloved team member returns. Nicholas Brendon returns as Kevin Lynch, and Amy Price-Francis (24) guest stars as SSA Andi Swan, head of the Domestic Trafficking Task Force, who assists the BAU on the case.

Don’t miss what I hope will be a great season finale tonight on CBS at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Criminal Minds @ Clicker.

Cougar Town continues to enjoy a successful season. The magic of the show begins at the beginning of the episode with the funny quip underneath the show title and ends with you chuckling at pretty much anything the cast has done. It’s also the comradery amongst the characters that lends to the enjoyment of tuning in weekly. So, make sure you get comfy on the couch, because this is one show where you don’t have to worry about a bumpy ride.

Last we left Travis (Dan Byrd), he was wallowing in the proposal rejection and abandonment he received from his girlfriend. Sadly, poor Travis is still down in the dumps. Tired of seeing her little boy swimming in self pity, Jules (Courteney Cox) offers him up some tough love. On a more upbeat note, that two second cameo at the end of last week’s Cougar Town has parlayed guest star Lou Diamond Phillips into another episode! So, while Jules is busy putting the hammer down on Travis’ pity party, Andy (Ian Gomez) and Lou try to offer Laurie (Busy Phillips – no relation) and Bobby (Brian Van Holt) some advice on their new Penny Can business.

Tune in to ABC at 9:30/8:30c, because you can’t spell smother without “mother!” Learn where to find episodes online of Cougar Town @ Clicker.

The Middle may not be a household title, but it really ought to be. If you’re craving laughs and want a show that your whole family can enjoy together, then you need to be tuning in to this show. Obviously, we’re getting down to the season finale, but this isn’t a show that you need to watch all season long in order to understand. This is simply family situations, with lots of over the top zany antics, mixed with a lot of realism! What could possibly be wrong with that?!

Tonight, Frankie and Mike try to get Brick over his irrational fear of crossing bridges. Axl competes against his arch nemesis for a job, while Sue has trouble choosing a bathing suit.

My recommendation for tonight? Uncork your favorite bottle of wine (or other adult beverage) and catch an episode of Cougar Town. I wasn’t a fan of this show when it first premiered, because I found the whole cougar side to the show kinda weird. Since then, they’ve changed it to be more about Jules and her friends from the cul-de-sac, and it’s become must watch TV. Courtney Cox is hilarious as Jules, but Christa Miller’s Ellie is my favorite of the bunch–it’s basically the same character she played on Scrubs, and I love it!

Tonight’s episode, “Free Fallin’,” has Jules still trying to cheer up her son Travis, after he has an emotional breakup. Special guest star Lou Diamond Phillips stops by to give Laurie and Bobby some advice on a new venture, and I can’t wait to see what new scheme they’ve come up with.

Cougar Town airs tonight on ABC at 9:30/8:30c. Let me know what you think of it in the comments section. Learn where to find episodes online of Cougar Town @ Clicker.

The season finale of Law & Order: SVU has arrived. With star Mariska Hargitay going on light duty next season, we’ll have to see if those rumors of Jennifer Love Hewitt stepping in are true. In the mean time, this gritty drama packs its usual punch tonight and ends the season with the usual addition of extreme danger. How will it all play out?

Tonight’s Law & Order: SVU episode involves Detectives Benson (Hargitay) and Stabler (Chris Meloni) on a case where a woman has been murdered during an afternoon of shopping with her daughter. The dynamic duo have been assigned to the case, because the victim was scheduled to testify in a high-profile rape case they’ve been working on. What they don’t expect is that this case will put the entire squad in danger. As Benson and Stabler flush out their investigation, a correlation between the murder and the rape case reveals some unlikely friendships that are bound to flesh out the truth. Sadly, the discovery leads to a precinct shootout…

What will become of Detective Benson and the rest of the SVU team? Tune in to NBC at 10/9c to see the season finale unfold. Learn where to find episodes online of Law & Order: SVU @ Clicker.
