If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/5/11

First, I’d like to wish my nephew a very happy 6th birthday! Makes me teary eyed, because it means in a couple of weeks, my baby girl is going to be 6 years old, too… She’s growing up so fast. 🙂

Let’s all welcome Jason (@theTVaholic) back to guest post with us. He always has some great insight, so we’re thrilled to have him.

Now, back to TV land… This week is much busier than last week, with a bunch of season and series premieres to help jump start our summer schedule. Let’s take a look at what you should be watching.

Vampires have been in the spotlight for quite a while now. Why shouldn’t werewolves get a piece? 😉 Tonight is the series premiere of Teen Wolf on MTV. Scott was just a regular guy until he was bitten and his life was changed forever. Now he has to deal with life and learning how to control his urges, because if he doesn’t, they’ll control him. Will the bite end up being a gift? Or will it be a curse? In time, he’ll learn if he should embrace his new powers,or if he should be afraid of them.

On the premiere episode, an unpopular teen (Tyler Posey) reluctantly goes into the woods one night with his best friend, and while there, they encounter a strange creature in the dark. He narrowly escapes an attack, but sustains a vicious bit in his side.

Tune in to MTV at 11/10c, at a special night and time, for the series premiere. Learn where to find episodes online of Teen Wolf @ Clicker.

I’m so excited, because my favorite new show from last year, The Glades, has its second season premiere tonight. I’ve spent the last 2 days watching the last season on DVD (It’s fantastic. Buy it! And check back on the 7th for a giveaway!), and I’m even more excited now than I was a few days ago. If you didn’t watch season 1, you missed out! The show stars Matt Passmore, Kiele Sanchez, Carlos Gomez, and Michelle Hurd. Passmore stars as Jim Longworth, an attractive and brilliant Chicago homicide detective with a reputation for being difficult. When his captain wrongfully accuses him of sleeping with his wife and shoots him (in the behind *snort*), he is exiled and forced to relocate. He lands in the sleepy, middle-of-nowhere town of Palm Glade, outside of the Florida Everglades, where sunshine and golf are plentiful and crime is seemingly at a minimum. But Longworth soon finds out this town isn’t quite as idyllic as he originally thought, when murders keep piling up. Each case pulls Longworth off the golf course and reluctantly into his element as one of the sharpest homicide detectives to wear a badge.

On tonight’s season premiere, when the body of a Cuban mobster’s daughter is found in Little Havana, Jim and the team must solve her murder before a war breaks out between rival mob families. With Ray’s release from prison imminent, Callie and Jeff prepare for his homecoming.

This has already been such an explosive season of Army Wives that it just keeps getting juicier and juicier. Amid hard times, these ladies continue to be so connected to one another in the most amazing way. Friendship can get you through just about anything, and with the tests that these ladies constantly face, their friendship has been through the ringer. Through thick and thin, the ladies of Army Wives show viewers what it means to really be a friend.

Tonight, Emmalin has college issues. Meanwhile, Michael’s career path is unclear. Claudia Joy must choose sides, Denise returns to work, and Roxy makes special efforts to support Trevor.

Hi, my name is Jason, and I’m @theTVaholic. Glad to be back here this week, attempting to control your remotes. When I’m not watching TV, which is most of the time, I endeavor to help you find the “prime” in primetime each night at TVaholic.com.

While summer is upon us and there are few options most nights right now, Sunday is the exception, with eight shows that are worth watching tonight. And even though two of them (Game of Thrones & The Killing) will be ending over the next few weeks, and one of them (Teen Wolf) will normally air on Mondays, there will be another four shows (Drop Dead Diva, Falling Skies, Leverage & The Protector), all of which are pretty darn good, starting up over that time.

Yet, if you could only watch one thing tonight, my pick would be the second season premiere of The Glades. This show quickly became one of my favorite shows last summer, and I have been looking forward to its return. Det. Jim Longworth is a modern day Columbo, as he keeps pestering all the suspects until he gets the final piece he needs to catch the perpetrator. I love smart detective characters that outwit the bad guys, like Det. Goren on Law & Order: Criminal Intent or Patrick Jane on The Mentalist. It also doesn’t hurt that Kiele Sanchez (Lost, Related) plays his love interest. They have great chemistry, and their story adds an extra dimension that makes this not just another procedural.

If you love The Glades like I do or have yet to experience it, we are giving away Season One over at TVaholic.com.

The Glades Season Two premieres tonight on A&E at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Glades @ Clicker.
