If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/29/11

I can’t believe that San Diego Comic-Con preview night is just 3 weeks from today! I have already started making my list of TV panels that I want to try to see while I’m there (as well as the unfortunate list of conflicting ones I won’t be able to attend). Last year was the first year I attended, and I loved being able to see the cast and crew of many of my favorite shows up close, live on stage. This year, my twin brother will also be flying out with me (his first Comic-Con), so it should be a lot of fun. I’m also looking forward to meeting/seeing a lot of the other TV fans I’ve only met online. -Kyle

It wouldn’t be summer without Hank Med and Royal Pains! When we last left the Hank Med gang, Evan was heading off on “his dream vacation from his dream job with his dream girl,” Divya decided to call off her wedding after being quarantined for Pneumonic Plague, Jill decided to leave the Hamptons, and Eddie Lawson was in jail. This is a nice starting point for the third season. Will Evan and Divya finally get together? Will Hank move on, now that Jill is gone? Will Eddie return, a reformed man? I hope we get the answers to all of these questions, along with more interesting afflictions-of-the-week cases in this new season.

In tonight’s episode, “Traffic,” while treating individuals who were injured by a toppled vehicle, Hank begins to believe that one woman is afflicted with a serious underlying medical condition. Divya is forced to deal with the results from her decision not to get married. Natalie Zea (Justified) guest stars.

Watch the season premiere tonight on USA at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Royal Pains @ Clicker.

My top pick tonight is the series premiere of the new drama, Necessary Roughness, on USA Network. USA puts out fantastic original shows, and I don’t expect this one to be any different. It’s based on a real like story, which gives it a whole other dimension.

Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne, Rescue Me) seems to have it all figured out: she’s got a beautiful home, a successful husband, two great kids, and a satisfying career as a psychotherapist. But something happens and her perfect world begins to unravel. To make ends meet and keep her family intact, she becomes the most sought-after therapist on Long Island, beginning with the star wide receiver for the local pro football team. Now, high-profile clients from athletes to entertainers to politicians are clamoring for Dani’s unique brand of therapy during their moments of crisis. While her professional life and career are revitalized, her personal life…isn’t.

Today has been an emotional day for me, as my baby girl just finished kindergarten. I can’t believe Chloe will be in grade 1 next year. Where does the time go? I also find myself feeling old at the prospect that I have a 6 year old. It’s crazy how time flies, isn’t it?

Speaking of things that fly, my suggestion tonight is So You Think You Can Dance. The dancers this year have shown us what defying gravity really means. I find this season to be a really tough season to judge, because the majority of the dancers are just that good. Ryan is my least favorite girl, and surprise, her partner Ricky is my least favorite guy. I think last week they should have kept Nick and eliminated Ricky. Who is your favorite couple so far? I’m really enjoying Jordan & Tadd, as well as Caitlynn & Mitchell.

On tonight’s episode, the Top 16 take to the stage to show us that they have what it takes to be America’s top dancer. Don’t forget to vote for your favorites in order for them to remain in the competition.

Tune in to FOX at 8/7c to watch these dancers amaze us again. Learn where to find episodes online of So You Think You Can Dance @ Clicker.

If you didn’t become a fan of Melissa & Joey when it premiered last August, you have missed out. This show, which stars Melissa Joan Hart (as Mel) and Joey Lawrence (as Joe), is completely fun and adorable, and just an easy watch, even if you have kids around while it’s on. In fact, my son is 13, and he has enjoyed the episodes I’ve been able to convince him to sit and watch with us. But even if he doesn’t, it’s still a show my husband & I enjoy. When her sister ends up in prison and her brother-in-law flees after a scandal hits, Mel must take responsibility for her teenaged niece, Lennox, and pre-teen nephew, Ryder. With Mel spread too thin to manage by herself, help comes in the unlikely form of Joe, who, desperate for a job, moves in and becomes the family’s “manny.” It’s such a great such, I implore you to give it a shot!

On tonight’s summer premiere, it seems that Joe finds he’s got feelings again for his ex-wife Tiffany (guest star Megan Hilty, known to Broadway audiences as Glinda in Wicked). Naturally, Mel wonders what the real story is — and she’ll soon find out, when Tiffany reveals to her that she’s been keeping a secret from Joe.

Check out the site later today for interviews with both Melissa & Joey, and then catch the summer premiere tonight on ABC Family at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Melissa & Joey @ Clicker.

Have you caught the fever? The Franklin & Bash fever! This is not your average procedural law show. It mixes humor, drama, and a whole lot of chemistry altogether. Mark-Paul Gosselaar and his counter part, Breckin Meyer, double team to bring the funny and the formal to this one of a kind show.

Tonight, family members sue one another over a baseball (and Franklin must face off the courtroom against his own father in the case!) and Peter works with Hanna in order to defend a reality television father. Also, Karp seeks Pindar’s help on a very secret project.

Tonight, there’s a new reality program premiering on NBC, and it’s called Love in the Wild. It’s an adventurous dating show that puts 10 single men and 10 single women into the jungle in Costa Rica to see if they can find a special match. In every new episode, the contestants will pair up in quests that will push not only their bodies, but their emotions, to the limit. Some examples are paddling down a crocodile-ridden river, exploring bat-infested caves, and repelling down a waterfall. After each adventure, the winning couple will share a night together at the Oasis, a five-star bungalow jam packed with everything they could need for a night of romance. Everyone else will stay in the cabins for a night of socializing. I’m curious to see how this dating show works out. It’s an interesting idea.

On tonight’s episode, the couples build rafts and navigate crocodile-infested waters.

Tune in to NBC at 10/9c to see if you can find love even in the jungle. Learn where to find episodes online of Love in the Wild @ Clicker.

My third pick tonight is a double. TV Land cracks me up on Wednesday night, with their 1-2 punch of Hot in Cleveland and Happily Divorced. I’ve loved the first since it premiered, and even though I was sure I wouldn’t really enjoy the second, I have jumped on board fully, as Fran Drescher is fantastic.

On tonight’s episode of Hot in Cleveland, the ladies fix each other up on blind dates, during which Elka hides her intellect in order to attract a wealthy bachelor, Melanie must contend with an arrogant suitor, and Joy only appreciates her date when he is not acting like himself.

Following that, on tonight’s episode of Happily Divorced, Fran is shocked to learn that she must sell her engagement ring in order for her and Peter to be able to pay their taxes. Peter wants to take Fran out for their anniversary, but he discovers that his ex-wife already has other plans.

Check in to TV Land at 10/9c, and then stick around at 10:30/9:30c to see both great shows! Learn where to find episodes online of Hot in Cleveland & Happily Divorced @ Clicker.

I’m so excited for Comic Con! Funny my sister is flying out to be there with me. It’s hard when all the shows conflict, especially because it seems a lot of shows are going to be in Hall H this year, and then some in Ballroom 20, it’s going to be nuts. I love it though. Maybe I’ll see you there.

  2. KyminyCrikket says:

Wooooo Hoooo. Royal Rains is baaaack!

  3. Tv Turk says:

I didn’t think I would like Happily Divorced either, but John Michael Higgins cracks me up. Fran’s voice used to annoy me but it’s not as bad as it used to be. It’s a nice companion show to go with Hot In Cleveland.

  4. Jenny says:

Yeah, Kyminy, I’m excited about Royal Pains, too. 😀 And Tv Turk, I know, right? I agree completely with your comment.
