If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/31/11

It’s the beginning of another new week of television, and the summer season is showing no signs of slowing down. That’s how this summer has been as a whole, though, isn’t it? I feel like we’ve been stuck at full throttle the whole summer, and it’s just flying by. At least tonight, we can sit back and take some time to enjoy a few hours of delicious television.

Every week, I find myself glued to my television screen, mesmerized by what is happening on True Blood. Shapeshifters, vampires, and witches … oh my! Last week’s crazy episode brought us a lot of strange, yet oddly intriguing stories. Tommy killed his parents, becoming a skinwalker. Eric had a bad dream and ended up cuddling up to Sookie. Bill knows that Sookie has been hiding Eric, and he’s on his way. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I know that Bill is going to be really angry. Aww, poor Bill… NOT! I’m going to be so happy when we finally get the shower scene between Eric and Sookie that was promised by Alan Ball.

On tonight’s episode, Sookie hunts for Jason under a full moon. Arlene and Terry wonder about the cause of a strange fire. Debbie pressures Alcide to relocate. Lafayette has a spiritual experience in Mexico, and Eric gives in to a highter authority.

I’ve been seeing the promos for Against the Wall, a new drama on Lifetime, for a month or so now. I’m so excited about it, because the premise looks great (it’s a cop show, but…not) and the cast is fantastic (c’mon, any good TV addict worth their salt is going to watch for Treat Williams alone, no?!). The show follows the trials and tribulations of Abby Kowalski (Rachael Carpani, The Glades), a single Chicago police officer who finally scores her dream job as a detective, but it turns out a nightmare for her close-knit family of cops. As the newest hire in the department’s Internal Affairs division, Abby suddenly finds herself at odds with her fellow officers, including her father and three brothers. She must now figure out how she can pursue her dream of being a detective while keeping her family intact.

Treat Williams (Everwood) and Kathy Baker (Picket Fences) star as Abby’s parents Don and Sheila. Rounding out the cast as her brothers are Brandon Quinn (Entourage) as Richie, Steve Byers (Smallville) as Steve and James Thomas (Covert Affairs) as Donnie. Additionally, Marisa Ramirez (Spartacus: Gods of the Arena) stars as Abby’s partner Lina Flores, Daniel Kash (The Dresden Files) is her boss Lieutenant Papadol, Andrew Walker (Maybe It’s Me) plays Richie’s partner Brody, Mayko Nguyen is Abby’s neighbor Mackie Phan, and Chris Johnson (The Vampire Diaries) appears as Danny Mitchell, a lawyer and old friend of Abby’s.

Sunday is a packed night of television, but one of the shows I always look forward to is Leverage. Each season gives us a mix of fun episodes and more serious ones. Last week’s episode was one of the former—where there is no life-and-death involved for the client-of-the-week, and the gang just has a lot of fun on the job. One thing I really liked about last week’s episode was how it ended with the woman they’d just tricked getting released from jail. I’m assuming we will see her again, and she will try to get her revenge on the team. This is one thing we don’t see enough of in the show. Just because Nate and the gang foil the plans of some bad guy, why wouldn’t that stop them from trying something else, or going after the team?! I’m looking forward to seeing if/when we will see the character of Jane West again, and how she will deal with the team.

In tonight’s episode, “The Carnival Job,” the team infiltrates a high-tech home to steal a revolutionary computer chip, only to have the family’s child abducted from a carnival during the heist.

Last week’s episode of Falling Skies was one of my family’s favorites. It was great to see Hal figure out something was very wrong. He tried to convince Mike, who at first was very resistant to think that a man he considered a friend would have sold them out like that and brought them there for the sole purpose of giving the kids of the 2nd Mass to the Skitters. Seeing Ben be loyal to his family and the rest of the humans was surprising and fantastic. But Rick’s creepiness knows no bounds… He asked Ben how he could eat “their” food, meaning the humans, he didn’t show any emotion when his father (Mike) died (I wasn’t sure I liked him, by the way, because I wasn’t sure which side he was going to come down on, but in the end, he did the right thing and didn’t give in to Clayton’s ideas. I was genuinely sad when he died.), and he’s just generally kind of creepy. Pope was back, although he doesn’t seem like he’s the big bad guy we thought he was. He may have some good in him, after all. I loved the childbirth stuff last episode, too, because we got to see Weaver thinking more like a man/human being than simply a general in charge of a ragtag military group. The previews for this week had my whole family bouncing with anticipation. It looks like it’ll be another great episode, so don’t miss it!

On tonight’s episode, Tom and Hal are forced to deal with an unstable Weaver while out on a dangerous reconnaissance mission. Pope tips the odds in their favor when he finishes assembling a new weapon, and Anne is shocked after completing an autopsy on a skitter carcass.

This all new season of Drop Dead Diva has been so incredibly touching and moving. Josh Berman has upped the anty and has provided some really sentimental and sweet moments for all of the cast. Last episode, we found out that Grayson is still dealing with his feelings of being left at the alter. Parker is still dealing with his feelings after being dumped by Kim. Jane found out that she wasn’t the only one that her handsome doctor friend was seeing. Seems like the only flourishing love life going on is Fred and Stacy’s, although, they are still learning to be supportive of one another. Can the dysfunction come to a standstill so that love can take ahold?
Tonight, on an all new episode, Jane is assigned to work a pro bono case at the D.A.’s office, while Parker suspects that Kim may be dating again. Also, Grayson represents Stacy in a lawsuit regarding a video blog.

Don’t think I’ve forgotten about the new episode of The Glades! I think perky, bothersome ex/current-girlfriend is gone, back to Chicago, which makes me VERY happy. She got the position with FDLE that she’d applied for, which scared me to no end, but then her boss in Chicago called and offered her a great position as head of something or other (I don’t care, I don’t like her. lol), which is what she really wanted, so she took that one, rather than staying in Florida, closer to Jim. (That’s one thing that REALLY irritated me…she called him Jimmy. Blech. lol) At the end of the episode, she asked him to come with her, and while he didn’t say no, he certainly didn’t say yes, and since the show wouldn’t be the show without Jim Longworth, you can be certain he isn’t go to go. Does that mean the end of their relationship? God, I hope so! Now the show can start to get Callie & Jim back on track!

On tonight’s new episode, Longworth and the team are called in to investigate the death of a man who was found in a box filled with poisonous vipers, and with a long list of suspects, matters are only made worse when one of the team is attacked by a deadly snake.
