If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/24/11

Tonight is better than last night for new TV, thank goodness! There’s tons of great stuff on, so our recommendations are plenty! Everyone wish Megan good luck with her move! She was a sweetie and sent me her recommendations for the rest of this week, and of course, Kyle, Lisa, and I are here. So what do we think you should watch tonight? Read on and find out!

Jenny’s Choice #1

Tonight, my first recommendation has to go to the new episode of Royal Pains. For the last few episodes, we’ve wondered when the chips will fall with Paige and her big secret, and tonight is the night. But before that, I just want to mention… I LOVE Kyle Howard (he was my favorite on My Boys), who guest starred as Dr. Paul Van Dyke, who works at the hospital and asked Divya out. His character was interesting and I love him, so I kind of hope he sticks around. (How awesome was it to see Autumn Reeser, from The OC & No Ordinary Family, last week, too?!) Anyway, there’s just so much great stuff going on right now with the show, between Boris & his illness & the car crash with Jill, Divya & her new doctor man, and Hank/Evan/Paige secrets, I can’t help but recommend it!

On tonight’s episode, Hank gets involvved in a case in which he attempts to treat a boy suffering from asthma. Paige is no longer able to hide her secret, and she must deal with the consquences when all is revealed. Divya accepts an offer to go on a date.

I am so excited for tonight’s new episode of Happy Endings. It looked liked this show was going to be just another mid-season comedy burn-off. When ABC announced they were picking it up for their Fall Wednesday comedy lineup, I was so happy! This Friends-like comedy was possibly my favorite new comedy of last season! When it aired last season, ABC oddly chose to air the episodes way out of order, and tonigh,t we get an unaired episode from the middle of the season.

In tonight’s episode, “Why Can’t You Read Me?” Alex and Jane’s sibling rivalry heats up. Dave dates an attractive woman (Bre Blair) with an unusual quirk, and Penny gets an assistant.

My second pick tonight are the two new episodes of Melissa & Joey on ABC Family. Last week’s episodes were cute, even though they weren’t good for my poor shipper’s heart. I loved all the scenes between Lennox and the guy at school, where they fought and fought and fought, until it turned to chemistry. You know what they say, right? There’s a thin line between love and hate. The same can be said for Mel & Joe’s relationship. They are constantly picking at each other, but the attraction is obviously there. Of course, then we met Mel’s new guy, George, who is eight years younger than she is. I really wanted to hate him—I REALLY did…but I couldn’t. He was a nice, sweet guy, good looking, and seems to honestly care about Mel and her responsibilities. We’ll see how that goes this week, when he returns for at least one of the two episodes.

On tonight’s first ep, Mel contemplates her relationship with George, and Ryder meets Holly’s parents.

Following that, on the second episode, Mel’s father returns to lobby for a bill Mel is against, and Lennox’s poems garner the attention of a classmate.

Lisa’s Choice

Last week on Rescue Me, the house got quite the shakeup when Franco went on a rampage. He and Lou now have a bet to see if Franco could handle all the hardships of the job as a lieutenant. Let’s see if Franco is really up for the job, or if he is all talk and smoke. He may think the life of a lieutenant is food and goofing off, but he’s in for a very rude awakening in tonight’s episode.

Tonight, the consistent chaos in the house forces Franco to demand a change, but a new call provides him with the perfect opportunity to prove his legitimacy as a leader. Tommy is unaware that his guarded letters have been sent out by Lou.

Tonight is the series premiere of Buried Treasure on FOX. It’s a treasure hunt, modern day style. We all hope that we could have that one special item in our homes that could help us retire early, and that’s what this show is all about.

In the season premiere, hosts Leigh and Leslie Keno (Antiques Roadshow) are traveling across the country to help everyday people find hidden treasures in their homes. The Kenos will show up at the homes and immediately begin their hunt for the hidden gems. They’ll investigate items of interest using technology to assess authenticity, condition, and most importantly, worth.

Tune in to FOX at 8/7c to see if this new premiere appeals to you. Learn where to find episodes online of Buried Treasure @ Clicker.

Last week’s episode of Hot in Cleveland was all about love and romance…and sex, of course. Melanie and Joy both struck out when trying to have sex with no strings attached, Victoria gave her old flame, Johnny (played by Huey Lewis!) a heart attack when she opened the door wearing a sexy nurse’s uniform, and Elka got a proposal from her old friend, Fred. Meanwhile, Victoria was really pushing the cosmetic line she was now pimping on her job as a television reporter. I especially loved when she mentioned Elka was wearing waterproof mascara, and Elka said, “No I’m not!” Victoria promptly pushed her away, much to Elka’s annoyance. It was great.

On tonight’s episode, “Bridezelka,” when the ladies convince Elka to have a lavish wedding ceremony, they are forced to do her bidding when she transforms into an angry, high-maintenance bride-to-be. Victoria tests a new product from the Mrs. Ladypants company. Meanwhile, Elka tries to be a bronzed beauty for her wedding, but she doesn’t look in the mirror before she leaves the salon.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first season of Top Chef: Just Desserts, and for the first time in a reality competition show, the person I wanted to win from the start managed to pull out the victory! I like that this show took the winning recipe of the original Top Chef and applied it to the dessert world. Tonight, 14 new pastry chefs will try to “outbake, outblend, and outbrulee” the competition for the $100,000 prize. The only thing that would make this show better would be smell-o-vision or the ability to reach in and sample the desserts!

In tonight’s season 2 premiere, “Showpiece,” for their first elimination challenge, the chefs are tasked with creating a showpiece based on a popular fairy tale.

  1. Kyle says:

Megan, I’m also kind of interested in checking out Buried Treasure. But since I already have Big Brother and Melissa & Joey on the primary TiVo at 8pm, I suspect this may just be a one-time watch for me.

Jenny, I also really liked My Boys and Kyle Howard’s past and current work (but how could I not given his name?!). Did you ever see the series Grosse Pointe? It was a parody of behind-the-scenes of shows like 90210 and Melrose Place.

  2. Jenny says:

Hahaha Of course! Kyle is such a great name. 😉 No, I never watched Grosse Pointe. I’ve heard of it, but… eh. lol
