If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/29/11

I hope everyone and their families got through Irene yesterday with minimal issues. There seemed to only be small branches down in my area. However, I did have to run and grab buckets and towels when I disovered my skylight was dripping! And then my power went out for about 7 hours. Fortunately, I had a bunch of movies on my iPad to pass the time, and the power came back on in time for primetime. I’m glad that “fun” is all over! Now, check out what we think you should watch tonight!

Tonight, I’ll be checking out the series premiere of Death Valley on MTV. It has been a year since vampires, werewolves, and zombies descended upon the streets of California, and a new division of the LAPD, the Undead Task Force (UTF), has been formed to tackle the problem. This dark, mocumentary-style comedy follows the officers of the UTF, and the camera crew that captures their exploits as they hunt the monsters that roam the streets of California’s San Fernando Valley. Death Valley features many familiar TV faces, including Bryan Callen (How I Met Your Mother), Bryce Johnson (Popular), Caity Lotz (Mad Men), and Tania Raymonde (Lost). From the previews I’ve seen, it looks like this series could either be outrageously funny, or really, really bad. I have high hopes it will be the former. Although, a warning for some viewers, it does look like there may be a lot of gore.

On tonight’s premiere, a vampire is killed in a prostitution sting, and a seemingly routine zombie kill leads to a crew member’s death.

Warehouse 13 has been great this season, with the addition of Steve Jinks and getting Claudia out of the warehouse more often. Add in the secretive, southern-voiced Agent Stukowski, and it’s simply fun to watch and wonder what’s going to happen to our favorite group of crazy. Last week saw the resolution for Myka about her old partner (& lover) and his murder. I guessed it was one of the two men she was friendly with pretty early on, but it wasn’t until later in the episode that I figured out who it was specifically. Unfortunately, Myka never saw it coming, and it devestated her that it was someone she knew and liked. She made peace with her partner’s wife, and even gave her the guy’s service pin. All in all, it was an emotional episode for Myka and had some good moments between her & Pete. I also loved the storyline between Claudia, Steve, Artie, and the dog. When Artie & the dog were linked, I giggled—a lot.

On tonight’s episode, Artie & Myka set out to save a group of regents, but they instead find themselves trapped inside a building that is being disintegrated by an artifact. Mrs. Frederic tries to convince Stukowski to talk by employing questionalbe tactics. Kate Mulgrew (Mercy, The Black Donnellys, Star Trek: Voyager) guest stars.

Brenda may be solving cases seemingly without glitches, but she may be melting under the pressure of the case that still continues to mount against her. Captain Raydor tried to break Detective Sanchez and use him as the weakest link, but unfortunately for her, her tricks didn’t work. As the case continues to pile up, Brenda will have to lean on Fritz and depend on the detectives she works with in order to keep her career.

Tonight on The Closer, Brenda receives a tip about a murder-for-hire that involves a major drug cartel. However, since the case doesn’t fall under her jurisdiction, she solicits Captain Raydor’s help in order to investigate the tipster’s allegations of police brutality. Also, Brenda’s attorney starts deposing the squad about the “Shootin’ Newton” case at the center of the major civil lawsuit against her.

Last week on Eureka, Carter & Allison got the bad news that while the relationship auditor thought their relationship was strong and had a great future, he also thought it would eventually hamper their working relationship, simply BECAUSE of how much they care about each other, so he was recommending they either part ways or one of them has to get a new job. I loved the part at the end where Grace & Henry “renewing” their vows (it was the first time for this Henry…), surrounded by all our favorite couples: Carter & Allison, Jo & Zane, and Fargo & Holly. It was great, too, to see Wallace Shawn perform the ceremony. He’s simply too cute for words. He’s back this week, too, as the storyline regarding Carter & Allison’s relationship continues.

On tonight’s episode, Carter investigates a series of attacks around town that seem oddly familiar. The candidates of the Astraeus mission undergo final evaluations from Senator Wen. Carter and Allison attemp to appeal the results of their relationship audit.

Romance and love are never easy topics when it comes to Jane and Maura. Family is another hot button for the two, and when it comes to family, there is always drama. No matter what these two ladies tackle, it’s best when they do it together. When you work with a friend, the line between personal and professional can be blurry, but with Maura and Jane, we don’t mind, because they make it look good on Rizzoli & Isles!

On an all new episode, Jane and Maura delve into a family’s background when a man is killed in what seems to be a mugging that goes wrong. Also, a romantic and mysterious figure from Maura’s past shows up unexpectedly, which causes a rift when Jane suspects that Maura is hiding something.
