If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/31/11

Whew, if last night was slow, then tonight is a TON busier—at least for me. I have so much airing at the same time, I’m having to push some stuff back to recording at 11:00 and midnight! Honestly, though… For me, I’d much rather have it that way! Today is the last day of August, which means tomorrow is the start of September…and the start of September means FALL TV! Yay! Have you voted in the poll on the sidebar? If not, you should! Then keep an eye on it, because it will change again in a few days, and a few more after that, until we get down to the Top 5 shows people are most looking forward to premiering in September. I have to recommend the two new episodes of Melissa & Joey tonight first, because A) the boyfriend’s gone and B) Joey Lawrence’s real life brothers are back and guest starring on tonight’s episodes! If you don’t remember Matthew and Andrew, they have starred and guest starred on TV with Joey before. Besides all starring together in the series Brotherly Love in the mid-90s, Matthew then went on to star in Boy Meets World from 1997-2000 (which I loved! lol), and Andrew (better known maybe as Andy) voiced T.J. in Disney’s Recess, Oliver Beene, the CW’s Runaway, The United States of Tara, as well as guest starred on a lot of other fan favorites, like Castle, Bones, & The Closer. I always enjoy seeing them on TV, so I’m especially excited for tonight’s episodes!

On tonight’s first episode, “The Other Longo,” Joe’s younger brother, Tony (Matthew Lawrence), shows up without any notice and asks to stay at the house. At first, Tony is little more than a nuisance, but Mel changes her views on him once she sees what a wonderful photographer he is. Things take a different turn once some photos Tony shoots of Mel wind up on the Internet.

Then on the second episode, “Teacher/Teacher,” after Ryder gets a bad grade on his history paper, Joe talks to the teacher, Mr. McKay, (Andrew Lawrence) in hopes of raising his grade, but manages to only make things worse. Distressed at how upset Ryder gets with him, Joe goes back to the teacher to sort things out. Meanwhile Mel tries to be the “cool aunt” by taking underage Lennox to a concert.

Check them out tonight on ABC Family at 8/7c! Learn where to find episodes online of Melissa & Joey @ Clicker.

Last week, Megan recommended the series premiere of Buried Treasure. I checked it out and really enjoyed it. It turned out to be part Hoarders, part Antiques Roadshow. It was interesting to see stuff that looked worthless be appraised for a lot of money, as well as some quality items exposed as fake. This is the kind of show that motivates us all to clear out our basements and attics in hopes of finding our own buried treasure. There’s not much on Wednesdays at 8/7c, so this is a nice, different addition to the schedule.

On tonight’s episode, “Rembrandts, a Horse Farm, and the Texans,” Leigh and Leslie visit a horse farm in Vermont, a Texas family, and a New Jersey family that has an extensive art collection. A re-run of last week’s premiere immediately follows.

I am also recommending the season finale of Hot in Cleveland on TV Land. Last week, we saw Elka turn into Bridezilla—or Bridezelka, as Joy called her—when the ladies convinced her to go big for her wedding, rather than go the simple route , like she had been planning. It was a disaster and ended with Fred calling off the wedding…until Elka realized she’d been an idiot to listen to the other women and made up with Fred, so the wedding is back on! One of the funniest parts of the episode, though, was Cedric the Entertainer as the minister. He gave Fred hysterical advice about just shutting up and agreeing with everything Elka had to say. The story about him being a singer in a “previous life” was fantastic. The song… I just about died laughing. It was so wrong, but so funny!

On tonight’s episode, when Melanie, Joy, and Victoria wake up on the day of Elka’s wedding with no recollection of the bachelorette party the night before, they attempt to piece together their memories in an attempt to determine when and where they lost the bride.

Tommy sure had a fire lit under him on the last Rescue Me episode—in more ways than one! Lou replaced his letters with ones he wrote himself, and now everyone is under the impression that he is going to be retiring from the unit. Franco held all the power, and then it was snatched back away by Lou like a blink of an eye. Now it’s time for Colleen to take the big leap into marriage, but as all things that Gavins do, nothing ever comes easy!

Tonight, Colleen’s wedding brings out all the hidden emotions of the family, which leads to a very unique celebratory display of affection, but the joy in the air is completely extinguished when a massive fire requires the aid of the men.

Last week on Royal Pains was the first time I have disliked Evan in a while. Yes, Hank is his brother, but he has a legal obligation to keep the confidence of his patients. Then again, Paige really wasn’t Hank’s patient (did she ever pay him at all?!), and in fact, she didn’t really tell him anything at all. So yeah, Hank knew Paige was keeping something from Evan, but Evan totally overreacted. If Paige had come to Hank with an STD or a serious illness and he didn’t warn Evan (even if it went against his legal obligation, then I’d have a problem…). But she didn’t. Anyway, there was a lot going on—with Divya and her new doctor friend, VanDyke, who is too cute…, Hank and Jill playing with Simon—besides the Evan/Paige/Hank stuff. It was a great episode, but I’m very upset that Evan was able to forgive Paige and not Hank. Bah! Men! 😉

On tonight’s episode, art collector Eric Kassabian calls on Hank when he can’t stay conscious long enough to enjoy a painting he’s chased after his enitre career. Meanwhile, Divya tries to balance both HankMed and Hamptons Heritage, unsuccessfully.

  1. Kyle says:

Are they airing these Melissa & Joey‘s out of order? I could have sworn Joey had hair last week, but he’s back to that stupid bald look again in tonight’s first episode, and then has a full head of hair again in the second episode. I wonder if the first episode was left over from the first half of the season.

  2. Kyle says:

Found my own answer–looks like “The Other Longo” is actually episode 13 but aired 25th!
So strange that they don’t just air these in order–especially with the drastic hair change.

  3. Jenny says:

Yeah, Joey tweeted about that earlier. haha I hate when shows do that. I have no idea WHY it happens…
