If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/2/11

Last week was a super busy week in television, and my DVR is tired. Unfortunately, it won’t be getting much of a break, because this week will be even busier. Let’s take a look at what you should be watching tonight, and pace yourself, because this week is going to be a long one!

Last week’s premiere of The Amazing Race really took us on a journey. I’ve yet to pick a favorite team, but I do find the flight attendant couple of Ron and Bill kind of annoying. Also, is it just me, or do they look a lot alike? They look like they’re related; I find it disconcerning. I’m also not a huge fan of Ethan and Jenna, for no other reason than they get on my nerves. 🙂 I’m sure by the end of tonight’s episode, I’ll have people I really dislike and ones I do like.

On tonight’s episode, the race continues in Indonesia, where the teams face a double elimination.

To see how the teams survive this leg of the race, tune in to CBS at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Amazing Race @ Clicker.

One of the new shows I’m excited to watch with my family is Around the World in 80 Ways, on the History Channel. From HISTORY: “Why take any old car when you can get where you’re going by rickshaw or hovercraft? For two real-life adrenaline junkies charged with circumnavigating the globe using every conceivable mode of transportation, it’s not the destination that counts, but the journey itself. That’s the challenge for “Boston Rob” Mariano (Survivor, The Amazing Race) and Dennis Anderson (creator of the monster truck Gravedigger), hosts of the new show.” I recently spoke to Boston Rob about the show. Check out our interview HERE.

On tonight’s premiere, “Titicaca or Bust,” Dennis and Rob begin the journey in Lake Titicaca, Peru. They face the world’s highest zip line, a gnarly descent down a cliff face with only rebar ladders for support, and the Incan trail.

Check it out tonight on Syfy at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Around the World in 80 Ways @ Clicker.

The ladies are flying high in the sky, and you will be too when you watch Pan Am! Last episode was the maiden voyage of the Clipper Majestic, and all hands were on deck. We learned that Bridget was not just your average stewardess; she secretly works for the government. When she is taken off assignment, she ends up being replaced by Kate, who is now set to lead a double life! Dean is the pilot for the Clipper Majestic, and he is in love with Bridget. He thought there was marriage in their future. Maggie took on the job as the plane’s pursuer unexpectedly, and Collette got a rude awakening when the wife of the man she’s having an affair with ended up on her flight. These ladies are living the life of luxury and adventure!

Tonight, during a trip to Paris, Laura’s mother tries to settle some unfinished business. Meanwhile, Maggie deals with attention from an aggressive passenger, and Dean searches for more information on Bridget.

Tonight is the penultimate episode of the season for Breaking Bad. Last week, Hank got close to discovering the laundry meth lab, and Walt was afraid that Gus will order a hit on his brother-in-law. Meanwhile, Skylar’s plan to force Ted into paying back the IRS took a wrong turn. Also, things got worse when Walt discovered Jesse was cooking on his own, and now he feels he is expendable as well. Walt rushed home to gather up his money so his family could escape, only to discover most of it missing. I really love this show. It is so tense and exciting—and the way last week’s episode ended was fantastic, giving us an aerial view of a mad Walter White, screaming and panicking in a grave-like crawl space. Some questions for tonight: Is Ted dead? Will Hank try to explore the laundry with deadly consequences? How could Walt or Jesse ever leave Gus’ business alive?

In tonight’s episode, “End Times,” Hank leans on Gomez to explore one final lead, as Walt scrambles to protect his family. Meanwhile, Jesse learns some unsettling news and races to share it with Walt.

I don’t subscribe to Showtime anymore, and now, I’m rather sad about it. Homeland starts tonight, and it looks good enough that my husband & I are probably going to end up buying the episodes on iTunes or whatever if they are available. We think it looks really good, and from everything we’ve read, it is. Here’s the info about the show, in case you haven’t heard of it. The show is a psychological thriller. When Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis, Life), who had been missing in action, gets a hero’s welcome upon his return home following eight years in enemy captivity in Iraq, brilliant-but-volatile CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes, My So-Called Life) doesn’t buy his story. She thinks Brody has turned, is now working for al-Qaida, and may be connected to a terror plot to be carried out on American soil. She then engages him in a dangerous game of cat and mouse that has America’s national security at stake. But Carrie’s questionable investigation methods land her in hot water with Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin, Criminal Minds), her longtime mentor in the CIA, who has gone to bat for her more than once but may now be alienated by her current investigation. Morena Baccarin (V, Firefly) plays the role of Jessica Brody, Nick’s intrepid and complicated wife.

On tonight’s premiere, CIA case officer Carrie Mathison becomes suspicious that war hero Nicholas Brody, a Marine Sergeant rescued after eight years of captivity in Afghanistan, has been turned into a sleeper agent by Al Qaeda.

If you haven’t been tuning in to the delicious drama Against the Wall, your Sundays are lacking. This family and police oriented drama is so addicting and makes Sunday nights worth staying home. Abby and Lina have great chemistry together as IA partners and can play well off one another inthe bad cop, even badder cop dynamic. Abby’s family is quite large, and they love to mettle in one another’s lives. With never a dull moment to spare, you’re going to be on the edge of your seat watching weekly when you turn on this breathtaking Lifetime gripping television show.

On tonight’s episode, Abby and Lina investigate a fellow Internal Affairs detective, while Brody seeks advice on how best to woo Abby by chatting with her mother.

I’m so excited for the return of another one of my favorite shows tonight—Dexter! In a way, this is very similar to Breaking Bad. It is a very tense show, where the protagonist is keeping a secret life. He is always in life-threatening situations, dealing with unsavory characters, and the threat of being discovered is always looming. One of the tensest moments last season was seeing Deb practically face-to-face with evil Dexter, and extremely close to discovering her brother’s double life. It was also great to finally see Dexter find someone he could confide in about his secret. However, he was once again on his own at the end of the season. I am really looking forward to seeing where Dexter goes from here. Each season, we get an overall arc with a serial killer that Dexter is hunting. Who will be the villain this season? Will anyone discover Dexter’s secret? Will Deb ever get lucky in love? How will Dexter deal with being on his own again?

In tonight’s episode, “Those Kinds of Things,” Dexter Morgan attends his 20th high school reunion and considers his son’s legacy. Meanwhile, Deb becomes an unexpected hero.

See the premiere tonight on Showtime at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Dexter @ Clicker.

I don’t think we’ll be getting Homeland in Canada yet, but I want to see it.
I still haven’t watched Dexter, I want to I’ve just never had the chance. Also it’s harder to get in Canada.

  2. Kyle says:

I can’t believe after the first episode of The Amazing Race there was no one I found really annoying yet! The first teams I’d like to see go are the old folks and the Survivors (they already have their winnings and fame from that show).
As for Homeland, the first episode is available to watch via streaming on a bunch of web sites. However, it has been edited to blur out nudity and mute out cursing and sex sounds. 🙂 I enjoyed it, but it is a bit of a slow burn, communist spy thriller, using modern-day terrorist groups to replace the soviets.
I don’t care how interesting Around the World in 80 Ways sounds, I won’t watch anything with “Boston Rob”–can’t stand that guy. Wish he would get a real job instead of making a career out of reality TV.
Looking forward to some new Pan Am–it seems like ages since I watched the pilot screener.

  3. Jenny says:

I am rooting for Ethan & Jenna… Mainly cause I loved Ethan on Survivor, and he went through cancer between then & now. heh *shrug*

I hope if I get Homeland on iTunes or wherever, it won’t blur out the good stuff! LOL

  4. Jenny says:

As for Boston Rob… I like him. I’ve always like him. *shrug* lol And he was a fun guy to interview, really. I could tell he really had enjoyed filming the show and that his first priority is Amber and their family. Sorry. 😉

I love Boston Rob, always have, always will lol

    Me, too, Megan. 😉
