If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/12/11

The week is half over, and while I have been loving this week in television, I am also very glad it’s Wednesday. Wednesday is not only hump day, but it brings us a load of fabulous TV. From The X Factor to Criminal Minds, it’s a night that offers choices for everyone, so don’t hesitate to kick back and enjoy! Let’s take a look at what you should be enjoying tonight.

The new ABC comedy, Suburgatory, is an absolute riot. I was excited when I first heard the premise of a single dad, George, who moves his daughter, Tessa, to the suburbs from New York – after he finds a box of condoms. The suburbs are full of cookie cutter lawns, plastic moms, and witchy girls… Fun times. Tessa is adjusting the best she can, and last week, she realized that she could be attracted to someone just based on looks, when she fell for her hot jock neighbour.

On tonight’s episode, “The Chatterer,” George’s immediate popularity with the PTA threatens Sheila’s authority. Tessa helps Malik turn an ordinary school newspaper into a flashy tabloid.

I am totally Psych’d for tonight’s sixth season premiere of Psych! This series is by far my favorite of the USA Network original shows. It’s like a weekly buddy cop action/comedy with a mystery twist. Each episode is always loaded quick witty banter and lots of 80s pop culture references. The entire cast of the show is so much fun, and I especially like the way Shawn and Gus play off one another. It makes you really believe these two have been friends all their lives. If you’ve never seen the show—definitely check out this original, less-serious, The Mentalist.

In tonight’s episode, “Shawn Rescues Darth Vader,” Shawn stumbles upon a dead body and feigns a vision in order to get SBPD on the case, but his credibility as a psychic is jeopardized when his coworkers begin to suspect that he actually witnessed the dead body in person. Malcolm McDowell (Franklin & Bash, Entourage) & Polly Walker (Caprica, Rome) guest star.

I’m excited because today is Criminal Minds day, and this season has been great so far. It’s so nice to have Prentiss & JJ back and to know they aren’t going anywhere just a couple of episodes down the line! Last week’s episode was one of the strongest case-wise I think in a long time. Max Martini (or as Kyle likes to call him, that guy from The Unit), plays the ultimate adversary on every show he appears in—whether he plays an actual bad guy, or just a man who is suffering from a horrible brain problem that turns him into a killer, such as his character last week on Criminal Minds. He is one of my favorite actors to see guest star on my shows, because I know whenever he appears, he’ll be fantastic. This week looks just as good, because not only does the case look good, Cade Owens is back as little Jack Hotchner. Too cute! The storyline with Jack hits close to home for me, as we dealt with bullying for the first time at the beginning of this school year, so I’m looking forward to seeing what’s what tonight.

On tonight’s episode, “Painless,” the BAU team is summoned to act when the survivors of a Boise high school massacre return to remember the event ten years later with a new killer targeting the survivors. Hotch is worried that his son, Jack, may be a victim of school bullying.

If you’re a fan of delicious flavor, then you’re excited just like the rest of us Psych-os are for the return of all new Psych episodes! The double trouble team of Shawn and Gus are back on the scene, and these two gentlemen are bringing on the laughs. Never one to shy away from a good pun or quip, Shawn has an arsenal full, and he’s ready to bring out the big guns. Shules fans will be looking forward to seeing what the road ahead has for this new couple and if the hidden fact that Shawn is a fake detective leads him to omit the truth more often than not with Juliet. Lassie fans are interested in finding out what’s in store for their favorite bewildered police detective, who is always looking for his moment to shine. Park yourself in front of the TV with your friends and pass around some fist bumps, because not only are you going to enjoy a brand new episode, you’re going to need to make sure you’ve got keen eyesight to spot the pineapple. Get psyched!

Tonight, Shawn discovers a body when he tries to retrieve a Darth Vader collector’s item.

When a couple breaks up, they usually separate their assets…but what about their friends? Ever have one of those get togethers with old friends who are a separated couple? Awkward, to say the least, but hilarious for us, thanks to the creators of Happy Endings. This comedy is in its second season, and already pulling out out all the stops on humor. Last week’s episode, we saw Alex’s new t-shirt designs intended for children end up being a hit with with teenagers. Jane went on a search for the child she believed was conceived from an egg she donated. It was hilarious, and the t-shirts alone had me giggling.

On tonight’s episode, “Yesandwitch,” Penny’s extremely optimistic mom (Megan Mullally, Will & Grace) arrives in town for a singing job at a trade show. The gang get a kick out of the life-of-the-party lady, but Penny discovers her mother’s hiding something from her.

To see if this comedy is your cup of tea, tune in to ABC at 9:30/8:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Happy Endings @ Clicker.

There are some comedies that never fail to bring the funny, and Modern Family is one of those. About as far from Criminal Minds in terms of storylines as you can get, Modern Family is a show that I look forward to every week. I am enjoying the new, slightly older Lily. Having her being able to actually interact with Cam & Mitchell is great. Gloria is still a riot, and how Claire stays married to Phil (who rivals their son for person with the fewest brains on TV a lot of times) is beyond me. I’d have long since had to kill them both. LOL

On tonight’s episode, “Hit and Run,” as the men in the family become increasingly irritated by work, school, and life, they risk blowing up. The final straw is a fender bender, where the other car flees, prompting them to take out their anger on a kid who has been bothering Haley. David Cross (Arrested Development) returns as Councilman Bailey.

Tonight is the second season premiere of Work of Art: The Next Great Artist. As the framed “Dogs Playing Poker” on my wall clearly states, I am by no means a fine art connoisseur. This is one of many reality shows that I watch not so much that I’m interested in the subject matter, but rather for the characters and unique and humorous situations. Last season, I was thrilled to actually see the person who I wanted to win from the first episode actually take home the prize. The series does a great job of bringing together a unique collection of contestants from all kinds of artistic backgrounds and mediums. While I personally wouldn’t classify most of the stuff these contestants create as art, the tasks they are given are always interesting, and the process they go through creating their pieces is always entertaining!

In tonight’s episode, “Kitsch Me If You Can,” the artists must use pieces of “bad” art.

Note: Today, Bravo is airing a marathon of first season episodes from 8am-5pm ET.

One of the most intense and suspenseful shows that has emerged this Fall season has been Revenge. Emily Van Camp’s new venture with Revenge has been highly touted by journalists, and for good reasons. This show has wonderfully written storylines that allow for fantastic chemistry with the cast and original plot points that keep viewers guessing as to what Emily Thorne’s (Van Camp) next move will be. The tell tale sign of a great show is when the twists and turns can’t be pinpointed, and you get all of this and more from Revenge. Pretty, wealthy people living in the Hamptons are being blackmailed and rocked by scandal, which means you’ve got the recipe for some must see TV.

On tonight’s new episode, recent scandals leave the Graysons on edge, and Emily targets the psychiatrist that was responsible for institutionalizing her as a child. Also, Declan and Jack face a very tough decision.

Watch ABC at 10/9c for all of the scandal! Learn where to find episodes online of Revenge @ Clicker.

I was going to recommend Up All Night for my third choice tonight, and I do still think you should watch, because the show is great, but my third pick has to go to Law & Order: SVU. I know a lot of viewers miss Stabler, but honestly, he has been my least favorite part of that show for a while (aside from a few episodes here and there). I love his chemistry with Olivia, but it seemed like they worked apart more often than they worked together the last few years, and with him being together with his wife and having a baby, there was no chance for an “office romance” for the partners, which I’d hoped for up until his wife had their son a couple of years ago. To me, at the end, he wasn’t nearly as much fun to watch, because his temper got the better of him a lot, and that’s all I found myself looking out for—to see when he would erupt. I am happy so far with the two new characters, so I’m hoping that continues! That, and T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy) are why this is my third pick tonight.

On tonight’s episode, “Double Strands,” a dancer is followed and raped by a man with a distinctive tattoo, and Rollins is reminded of a serial rapist she was tracking at home. The detectives arrest Gabriel Thomas (Knight), a family man who maintains his innocence, but his description and DNA match this assault and the string of rapes across multiple states that Rollins had been investigating. Although the evidence supports the arrest, the more Detectives Benson and Amaro dig into Thomas’ past, the more they begin to believe his story.

Check it out tonight on NBC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Law & Order: SVU @ Clicker.

  1. Kyle says:

I have never seen SVU, but it would be interesting to see “George” in another role (wish they had been able to keep him on Grey’s). Since there is so much other stuff I already watch at 10pm, I have set it to record when it re-airs on Saturday at 10pm.

So much great stuff on tonight! Will be watching all of the ABC comedies followed by Psych, and then catching up with all of the overlapping shows.
