If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/16/11

Tonight ushers in a whole new week of television, and what a week it’s going to be. Tonight is a bit slower, but that doesn’t mean it’s not of the utmost enjoyment. Remember to extend your DVR recordings to account for football and baseball. Also, if you’re a fan of The X Factor, don’t forget the new episode is on tonight on a special night, due to baseball from last week. Now, let’s see what you should be watching.

There is something empowering about watching a woman lawyer kick some serious ass in the court room—and then go be a seductress with her man. That’s what you get when you watch The Good Wife: legal drama with a sexual undertone. Julianna Margulies is amazing, and if you haven’t given yourself the pleasure of watching, you should.

On tonight’s episode, Alicia tries a pro bono case in which the witness becomes the suspect. Elsewhere, Will and Diane discuss the firm’s future.

Dare to fall in love with another drama when you tune in to CBS at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Good Wife @ Clicker.

I’m going all Food Network all the time—or at least for tonight. Why? First, because I’ve been watching the short little series, Halloween Wars, for the last few weeks. If you’re a fan of Cupcake Wars or Food Network Challenge, it’s kind of like a combination of them both. It’s Cupcake Wars, but using pumpkin carvers, cake makers, chocolate artists, and sugar artists. Each week, teams compete in two challenges—one fairly small, and one much larger. In the first are given a specific item they need to make, interpreted their own way (one week, they all had to make a witch). Then in the larger challenge, they are given a theme—such as fairy tales gone wrong—and then given the freedom to make it as big or small, as simple or elaborate, as they wish. During that round, they also have to make at least one edible candy for the judges to taste. Speaking of judges, each week, there is a guest judge. On tonight’s episode, which is “Zombies vs. Vampires,” the guest judge is Rob Zombie (musician/film director, Halloween). It is unbelievable what these teams can do. Tune in, and you will be more than impressed, I promise!

Check it out tonight on Food Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Halloween Wars @ Clicker.

Pan Am is soaring to new heights and taking viewers with it! If you haven’t been tuning in to this show that has taken flight, you’re missing out on some fantastic drama, as well as some beautiful emotion and suspenseful writing. Last episode, the stewardesses were in Berlin, and we saw Maggie chase after President Kennedy, who we learned she had a crush on after working on his campaign. We saw Kate try to help a German CIA Agent, which led to her getting into some hot water. Also, Colette got to revisit her tragic past that involved her family’s brush with the Holocaust. As viewers continue to watch this nostalgic look at the past, you’ll continue to be amazed by the history, the beauty, and the mystery that was the 60s.

Tonight, a last minute change has the crew of the Majestic flying to Rangoon. Maggie shows Laura the wilder side of the city, while Ted reflects on his past after he hears news of a space mission.

I am so excited for The Walking Dead to rise again on my TV tonight. While the first season was only 6 episodes, it was such a fun thrill ride and introduced us to some really great characters. Unlike most zombie films, this show is not just all about gore and the shock factor. There is actually a story, and we learn about these characters. There are no meta situations, where the characters have seen zombie films and know what to do. This is all new to them. Last season, our gang of survivors had finally made their way to the CDC, in hopes there were doctors there searching hard for a cure. However, what they found was a lone scientist who had already rigged the place to blow. With the CDC destroyed, the group once again took to the road, not sure what to expect next.

On tonight’s special 90-minute premiere, “What Lies Ahead,” as Rick leads the group out of Atlanta, they are stopped by a threat unlike anything anyone has seen before. Amongst this, the group must search for someone who has gone missing.

Notes: AMC is airing a marathon of all 6 first season episodes today leading up to the season 2 premiere, starting at 2:30/1:30c. Also, at midnight (11PMc), it’s the premiere of The Talking Dead, a weekly talk show in which Chris Hardwick leads a discussion about that night’s episode.

See the premiere tonight on AMC at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Walking Dead @ Clicker.

My second pick is a new episode of Chopped on a special night. I quite enjoy watching this show, because even though some of the chefs are more than arrogant, there are a lot with some great stories—from overcoming adversity, like cancer or addiction, to wanting to open their own restaurant. Sometimes, the ingredients are unbelievably disgusting sounding, especially together, but nearly every time, the chefs are able to come with a dish that sounds and usually looks fantastic.

On tonight’s special Halloween-themed episode, “Trick or Treat, Chicken Feet!” the chefs step bravely into the first round and find candy and … chicken feet! But it turns into a “nail-biter” at the Chopping Block when the judges discover claws in their appetizers. Then more sweets and uncommon meats in the entrée round keep the competitors cooking creatively. And in the last round, the chefs must adjust their plans when their dreams of perfect desserts threaten to turn into Halloween nightmares.

See what creative (& disgusting, from the ingredients!) combinations the chefs come up with tonight on Food Network at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Chopped @ Clicker.

Against the Wall has garnered an amazing fanbase, and for good reason. This show has captivated viewers with the family drama and suspense that has them transfixed to their TV screens. This show focuses on the daily life of Abby Kowalski, who works for the Chicago police force. Her family is full of cops, and it doesn’t go over well with any of her relatives when they hear she’s taken a job in Internal Affairs. As the newest hire, she finds herself in over her head and unwelcome. Luckily, she has partner Lina to show her the ropes and try and help her keep her head above the water. It may be hard for Abby’s family to accept her new career, but they always love and support her and look out for her best interest. If you want a show with some scandal and sizzle, as well as some family heart, you’ve hit the mark here.

On tonight’s episode, Abby and Lina investigate a complicated case that involves a police officer’s suicide. Also, Mackie and Abby’s brothers plan a surprise party for Abby.

  1. Kyle says:

Did you guys watch last night’s Chopped? I was shocked they never once mentioned Michelle’s extensive history on Food Network Challenge! Every time I watch one of the cake decoration challenges on that show, there seems to always be at least one of the following contestants: Michelle and/or her husband Vinny, Bronwen Weber, or one of the pair of friends Jason Ellis and Joshua Russell.

  2. Jenny says:

I did. And I KNEW I recognized her! You’re talking about the pregnant one with the funky colored hair?
