If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/14/11

Ten or so days until Thanksgiving. Between now and then—actually, between now and January!—things will begin to slow down on TV for the holidays. That makes me sad, realizing the season is almost halfway over already! Still, even though there’s no new Castle tonight, there’s still plenty on, so check out what we recommend now!

Last week, jaws dropped all over America as viewers watched the new episode of How I Met Your Mother. Why? In case you were hiding under a rock or haven’t been tuning in to this fun show, you may not know that Barney & Robin—months after having broken up, and while both are in a serious, monogamous relationship with someone else—were joking around in the back of a cab, pretending to do a messy, sloppy kiss…which soon turned into a whopper of the real thing. What does that mean for their friendship and their relationships with Nora & Kevin? I don’t know, but I’m looking forward to finding out. I want Robin & Barney to get back together, but I have my doubts about it being this soon. If they get back together now, I have a feeling that may mean bad things for the possibility of Robin being Barney’s bride (that we did NOT see in the season premiere). Meanwhile, Ted is still sadly single, Lily & Marshall are… enjoying Lily’s pregnancy, and last week, we got to experience two more slaps in the slap bet—plus the addition of another one, so Barney could stop wearing the ducky tie. All in all, it was a good episode!

On tonight’s episode, “Tick Tick Tick,” Barney and Robin find themselves in a personal predicament when they try to do everything they can to hide a damaging secret from their significant others. Marshall, Lily, and Ted all decide to attend a concert. Kal Penn and Nazanin Boniadi return as Kevin & Nora. Also guest starring are Alexis Denisof (Alyson Hannigan’s—Lily—real life husband), as Sandy Rivers, and Jacob Witkin & Robin Krieger as Nora’s parents.

Every week, I find myself amazed at the humor and hilarity that ensues on 2 Broke Girls. At times, I wonder how they get away with some of the dirty jokes, but I sure am glad they do, because they are so funny. Especially Oleg (Jonathan Kite) and his 69 jokes. I’m like a teenager and still laugh at them. 🙂

Last week, we saw Max finally kiss Johnny (Nick Zano) only to find out he has a hot, black, British girlfriend – who, incidentally, Max also kissed to cover up her kissing Johnny. It was actually a heartbreaking scene, but then Johnny redeemed himself. He admitted to liking Max and not wanting to start a relationship with her while he was still dating someone else. Max was really angry, but when he painted a billboard with pictures that looked like Max and Johnny kissing, a little of her icy exterior melted away. I love those two together and hope it works out.

On tonight’s episode, “And The Really Petty Cash,” Johnny’s girlfriend has a devious plan in mind when she hires Max and Caroline to bake cupcakes for an art show featuring his work.

One of the shows I’ll be watching tonight is an all-new episode of House. Last week, Chase and Taub returned, and House immediately pitted his old gang against his new gang. Meanwhile, House tried to trick Taub into taking a paternity test to see which (if any) of his newborns were actually his own. This show is probably one of the most formulaic shows there is—every week, House and his team misdiagnose the patient, usually worsening their condition or almost killing them. Then they break into the patient’s house to look for clues, do one or two more wrong treatments, only to find the cure in the last 10-15 minutes. During this process, sprinkle in House insulting folks and playing mind games with his reports & “friends,” and you’ve got every episode in a nutshell. That said, I still find the cases interesting, and House’s mind games are always entertaining.

In tonight’s episode, “Parents,” a teen out to follow his late father into show business arrives with partial paralysis, and the team uncovers a family secret while treating him. Meanwhile, another patient (John Scurti) insists he’s diabetic, House tries to remove his ankle monitor so he can attend a boxing match in Atlantic City, and Taub is distressed to learn that Rachel wants to move to the West Coast with their infant daughter. Sportscaster Jim Lampley has a cameo as himself.

Last week on Hart of Dixie, during a late night drive home after a house call, Zoe hit a man, but couldn’t find any signs of him after she got out of her car. Later on, she found the man’s photo hanging up in Rammer Jammer, and George breaks the news to her that the man died over a year ago. Meanwhile, Lemon and George were ready to buy a new home together—that is, until Lavon stepped in and refused to authorize the purchase because the home was one of Bluebell’s historic properties. Also, Zoe’s mom (guest star JoBeth Williams) appeared in Bluebell, hoping that she could reconcile with her daughter. Hart of Dixie has won over viewers, and it’s amazing to have Rachel Bilson back in our weekly TV lineup!

Tonight, Lemon reluctantly accepts Lavon as her replacement co-host for Bluebell’s annual turtle race after NASCAR driver Brian Vickers drops out. Also, a highly attractive veterinarian asks Zoe out, while Wade receives a very unexpected visitor.

Mike & Molly is always a sweet show, but last week was just too cute. Watching Carl trying to flirt, and then getting pissed off when the object of his flirtation (guest star Holly Robinson Peete) rejected his advances. It was fun to see him going back and being himself at the end. It makes me wonder if HRP will return, because it sure seemed like they were going to end up going out. I liked her character and liked the chemistry between the two of them—and I would love to see Carl grow up a little. Is it just me that finds it odd that all these adults live with their parents? For a while, it was only Mike that lived on his own—and I mean, I guess I get why Carl lives with his grandmother, but why did Molly still live with her mother? I also get why—sort of—Mike & Molly are still living there, but still…Anyway, no matter the questions like that, I still really love the show, and when Mike’s mom is on, you know it’ll be a great episode!

Tonight, in “Peggy Gets a Job,” Mike takes it upon himself to encourage his mother, Peggy, to finally go out and get a job for herself, but he never imagined how much this new development in their daily lives would interfere with Molly’s hectic lifestyle.

My Monday night isn’t complete until I have my date with Alex O’Loughlin on Hawaii Five-0. Am I delusional? No, of course not – I mean, I know he sees other woman, too. 😉 All kidding aside, Five-0 is a must see for me weekly. I love the bromance between Steve (O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan), as well as the perfection of the chemistry between the whole cast. They manage to save the day sometimes, and when they don’t, they’re there for each other.

Last week’s episode was like a Heroes reunion, with Greg Grunberg guest starring, and of course, our favorite medical examiner, Masi Oka. I loved seeing them together again on screen, and in general, I just love Grunberg. They were investigating the death of a DEA agent, and it was a tangled web to untangle before they could get their man.

On tonight’s all new episode, “Ike Maka,” when the Five-0 discover a John Doe in the trunk of a stolen car, they not only have to find a killer, but also need to figure out who the physically-altered victim was. Meanwhile, a homeless Danno is sleeping on McGarrett’s couch.
