It’s that time of year. The SAG (Screen Actors Guild) nominations are out, and this year is a mixture of triumphs and acid trips. There are some odd nominations, but don’t take my word for it. Check out the list below.
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
The Artist
Bridesmaids
The Descendants
The Help
Midnight in Paris
My vote goes to Bridesmaids. Not because it was the best movie out of the list, but because the cast was amazing together.
Jump ahead for the rest of the nominations.
Outstanding Performance by a Male lead
Demian Bichir – A Better Life
George Clooney – The Descendants
Leonardo DiCaprio – J.Edgar
Jean Dujardin – The Artist
Brad Pitt – Moneyball
I’m not sure who my vote goes to, because this is a strong category, but I’m leaning towards George Clooney.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Lead
Glenn Close – Albert Nobbs
Viola Davis – The Help
Meryl Streep – The Iron Lady
Tilda Swinton – We Need to Talk about Kevin
Michelle Williams – My Week With Marilyn
Another really strong group of nominees, but I’m going to go with Michelle Williams, because I adore her.
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Kenneth Branagh – My Week with Marilyn
Armie Hammer – J. Edgar
Jonah Hill – Moneyball
Nick Nolte – Warrior
Christopher Plummer – Beginners
I’m going to go with Kenneth Branagh.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
Berenice Bejo – The Artist
Jessica Chastain – The Help
Melissa McCarthy – Bridesmaids
Janet McTeer – Albert Nobbs
Octavia Spencer – The Help
Melissa McCarthy for the win. Yes, the other actresses were all very good in their respective films, but McCarthy was FABULOUS in Bridesmaids.
Female Actor – TV Movie/Miniseries
Diane Lane – Cinema Verite
Maggie Smith – Downtown Abbey
Emily Watson – Appropriate Adult
Betty White – The Lost Valentine
Kate Winslet – Mildred Pierce
This is a hard choice for me, because I honestly thought Betty White was amazing in The Lost Valentine. However, given the group, I’m going to have to go with Kate Winslet for the win.
Male Actor – TV Movie/Miniseries
Laurence Fishburne – Thurgood
Paul Giamatti – Too Big to Fail
Greg Kinnear – The Kennedys
Guy Pearce – Mildred Pierce
James Woods – Too Big to Fail
I’m going with Paul Giamatti for Too Big to Fail.
Female Actor – TV Comedy Series
Julie Bowen – Modern Family
Edie Falco – Nurse Jackie
Tina Fey – 30 Rock
Sofia Vergara – Modern Family
Betty White – Hot in Cleveland
I’m not entirely sure about this category, but I’m going with my gut and saying Sofia Vergara. She’s hilarious on Modern Family, and the show has been on a bit of a streak.
Male Actor – TV Comedy Series
Alec Baldwin – 30 Rock
Ty Burrell – Modern Family
Steve Carell – The Office
Jon Cryer – Two and a Half Men
Eric Stonestreet – Modern Family
I’d like to point out the snub of Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) and that I think he should be in this category. Out of the nominees, I’m going to go with Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family.
Ensemble – TV Comedy Series
30 Rock
The Big Bang Theory
Glee
Modern Family
The Office
Shows that should be in this category are: New Girl, Community, and Parks and Recreation, because all of them have outstanding casts. Everyone is probably expecting me to go with Glee, but I’m going to go with The Big Bang Theory. They deserve it way more.
Female Actor – TV Drama Series
Kathy Bates – Harry’s Law
Glenn Close – Damages
Jessica Lange – American Horror Story
Julianna Margulies – The Good Wife
Kyra Sedgwick – The Closer
This is a very talented category, although it should also include the incredibly brilliant Claire Danes for Homecoming. Out of the nominees I am presented with, I will have to choose Julianna Margulies.
Male Actor – TV Drama Series
Patrick James Adams – Suits
Steve Buscemi – Boardwalk Empire
Kyle Chandler – Friday Night Lights
Bryan Cranston – Breaking Bad
Michael C. Hall – Dexter
Wow, a nomination for Suits. While I enjoy the show and am a supporter of USA Network, I don’t believe that Patrick James Adams belongs in this category. Sorry. I’m going with Kyle Chandler for the win.
Ensemble – TV Drama Series
Boardwalk Empire
Breaking Bad
Dexter
Game of Thrones
The Good Wife
This is another hard choice, but I’m going to go with Game of Thrones. I love The Good Wife, but Game of Thrones deserves it a bit more.
