If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/15/11

Is it just me, or is this week dragging by slowly? I wish it was Friday already, but then I’d have to miss out on a a great night of television – double edged sword. Let’s kick back, relax, and see what you should be watching tonight.

I love smart television, and it doesn’t get much smarter than The Mentalist. Week after week, Jane helps to solve crimes using the power of his intense mind. I also love the interactions between the cast. Although Rigsby dating anyone but Van Pelt seems terrible, it was nice to see him appear happy for the first time in a bit. Last week, they had a victim that wasn’t actually dead, and they acted like he was so they could figure out who attempted to murder him. I loved how excited Jane was over the prospect of a live victim.

On tonight’s episode, “Fugue in Red,” Jane almost drowns while investigating a fireman’s murder, and he loses his memory. This memory loss turns him into the old con man Patrick Jane, instead of the Jane we know and love.

To see how long this memory loss lasts, tune in to CBS at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Mentalist @ Clicker.

I’m so nervous about tonight’s season finale of Burn Notice. All season, it’s been tense and scary while dealing with Anson. Vaughn was back, Jesse’s friend died, and Michael learned some bad/scary news about Anson: he wants to get back in the big leagues, not retire. Will Michael, Fi, Sam, & Jesse be able to take Anson down tonight, or will the season end on a huge cliffhanger, where someone’s (or multiple someones) life is in jeopardy? I don’t have any idea, and it scares me! lol

On tonight’s episode, “Fail Safe,” as the team reaches a breaking point with Anson and his sinister plans, Pearce puts Michael in charge of his biggest CIA mission yet. Dean Cain (Lois & Clark), Eric Roberts (The Young and The Restless, Less Than Perfect), and Kristanna Loken (The L Word, Painkiller Jane) guest star.

I was so happy to see FX’s announcement that they have renewed The League for a fourth season. This show is so much fun! Last week, Eliza Dushku guest starred as Kevin’s Krav Maga instructor, who overtly flirted with him while teaching the class. Meanwhile, Taco’s hilarious business of the week was Neckflix, a necktie subscription service in the vein of Netflix. Also, Jenny told Andre a secret she knew he couldn’t keep in order to guilt him into a trade for her fantasy football line-up, while Ruxin almost joined a cult in order to get help with his team.

Sometimes I almost forget that this show is centered around a fantasy football league, until we get episodes like last week’s, where half the stories were about securing lineups. I always love Taco’s crazy business ideas—they are so great, in an evil, super-genius kind of way.

In tonight’s episode, “The Guest Bong,” Pete’s new girlfriend wants to help him with his team lineup, Kevin’s past at the DA’s office comes back to haunt him, Ruxin runs afoul of his company’s e-mail policy, and autocorrect gets everybody in trouble.

Last week, Detective Carter came face to face—sort of—with Reese. He and Finch had to work together to save her after the computer pulled up her number. They had threats coming from all directions, but when it was her CI that Elias had gotten to, no one saw it coming—especially not Carter herself. Reese saved her life by shooting the homeless man before he could put a third bullet in her head, rather than in her vest, and told her to remember that even though she may still want to arrest him, she should know she’s not alone, basically telling her that he’ll always be there to protect her. It was a good episode, with a lot of great background—history and current personal life—for Carter, and it leads right into this week’s fall finale, which looks like it’ll be fantastic.

On tonight’s episode, “Number Crunch,” as Detective Carter deals with the fallout from her recent encounter with Reese and Finch, The Machine ups the ante for the duo by giving them four Social Security numbers instead of one. Also, Carter is confronted by two men with badges about Reese, who ends up in the crosshairs. Bridget Regan (Legend of the Seeker) & Michael Kelly (Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior) guest star.
