If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/13/12

Wow… The last few days have been absolutely cray-cray for renewals! Maybe it’s just me, but a lot more shows seem to have been renewed this year than I can remember in previous years. A handful had already been canceled, and there were obviously already some (Chuck, House, Desperate Housewives etc) that were ending this season completely. We’re waiting to hear about a dozen shows, give or take a few, and aside from a couple of cancellations, there haven’t been huge disappointments. I know fans of GCB, The Secret Circle, & Missing especially were shocked and disappointed, but there was tons of great news, as well, such as a full 22-episode renewal order for Happy Endings and renewals (even with shortened seasons) of most of the NBC Thursday comedies. To keep updated easily on what has and hasn’t been renewed, check out TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard. Now… On to what we think you should be watching at the start of this BUSY week of finales! (Oh, and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and mom stand-ins out there!)

Like I mentioned the other day, I’m a fiend for cooking competition shows on Food Network especially, and one of the biggest and most fun is Food Network Star, which premieres tonight. Normally, the competitors are split into teams but there are no coaches. This year, the show is switching things up a LOT. Not only will the group be split into three teams, but each team will have a “coach.” In the past, Bobby Flay & Giada De Laurentiis have been judges on the show, but this season, they have been joined by Alton Brown, and the three of them will each be coaching a team to success on camera and in the kitchen. I think it will be a VERY interesting change-up to the show and should make for some fun times.

I’m not sure who I want to win – which competitor or which judge. lol I do recognize at least one of the contestants. Michele Ragussis was a competitor on Chopped and competed on 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, which she and her teammate won. I think she’ll be a fierce competitor for Bobby Flay. I guess we’ll see if her being somewhat known on Food Network already gives her an advantage or a disadvantage among the other competitors. You can tweet along with the show and show your support for your favorite judge & team with the hashtags: #Star (for the show), and for the judges, #TeamAlton, #TeamBobby, or #TeamGiada.

On tonight’s 2-hour premiere, “Impossible Beginnings,” mentors Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, and Giada De Laurentiis welcome 15 new hopefuls to join their teams. Chef Robert Irvine challenges the finalists to creat pop-up restaurants with a small budget and a limited amount of time.

Tonight, I’m also going to be watching the Desperate Housewives finale, the series premiere of Invention Hunters, & the champions competition on Cupcake Wars.

Even fairytales have to come to an end, and tonight is the season finale of Once Upon a Time. Granted, it’s just the end of a season, not a series, but a break from the make believe will be sad no matter how long. This premiere season, we have learned more about our favorite fairytale characters than I could ever hope for. My heart was already with Snow White, but after watching Ginnifer Goodwin bring her to life week after week, I have fallen in love with her story more than ever. I applaud the creators for being able to bring to life the fairytale world and Storybrook worlds so fabulously this whole season, and I look forward to what they are going to do in the seasons to come. When we last left our favorite characters, Snow White had just eaten the poisoned apple.

On tonight’s finale, “A Land Without Magic,” Emma and Regina team together in order to find a way to save Henry’s life. Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, Prince Charming attempts to escape from the Evil Queen’s clutches in order to reunite with Snow White, who, unbeknownst to him, has already taken a bite of the Queen’s poisoned apple.

To see if true love can conquer poison, tune in to ABC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Once Upon a Time @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing Desperate Housewives, Harry’s Law, and Game of Thrones.

Tonight, after 8 years, Desperate Housewives finally comes to an end. Last week, Julie worried that Porter no longer wanted to be a part of their baby’s life, so Susan said she would sell her house and move in to help her. Meanwhile, Tom punched his boss after he insulted Lynette, and he realized that he’s still in love with her. And Bree’s trial got underway, but her lawyer warned that she may need to tell the truth about what happened the night of the murder.

This series has had its highs and lows over the years, but overall, I’ve really enjoyed the run. Sunday nights just won’t be the same without this fun, campy drama. So what can we expect in the series finale? We’ll probably get all of the typical finale cliche’s – like the birth of Julie and Porter’s baby, a dramatic murder trial (with either Bree getting convicted or Gaby emotionally breaking down on the stand talking about her step dad), Renee’s wedding, and perhaps even Tom and Lynette renewing their own vows. I suspect we”ll probably also see some old faces return.

In tonight’s double-episode finale,”Give Me the Blame” & “Finishing the Hat,” Trip pleads with Bree to tell him about the night of Alejandro’s murder; Susan tries to keep the sale of her house private until she can tell her friends; Katherine Mayfair returns with a job opportunity for Lynette.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording the three-hour Survivor, Once Upon a Time, The Cleveland Show, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Food Network Star, Game of Thrones, Veep, and The Big C.

We left the ladies of Staten Island last week on Mob Wives with Karen trying to convince her daughter’s father Dave to move to NYC. The two had a few drinks and sparks flew, leading the two to try to reassess their relationship. Karen and Drita contemplated Renee’s reconciliation request, and Karen revealed that she was considering it. Renee went on a radio show called “Locked Down Love” and finally went public with all of the real deal on Junior and the shocking details of his betrayal. Meanwhile, Big Ang spent the day spoiling her son, and Drita received a crushing letter from her husband saying that he wasn’t going to be transferring to the jail that was close to their house. Also, Carla was worried about her husband Joe, who had suddenly become distant with her. When she confronted him, she was stunned to learn that he had a girlfriend that he was seeing.

On tonight’s season finale, Karen and Drita prepare for their meeting, and Big Ang throws a dinner in order to bring everyone together.

The sizzling season ender will be off the charts fired up, so don’t miss a moment starting at 8/7c on VH1! Learn where to find episodes online of Mob Wives @ Clicker.

Tonight, I am also watching Once Upon a Time, Mad Men, and The Apprentice!
