If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/28/12

I can’t believe that May is almost over. Summer is coming up on us quickly. This is a slow week in TV, but enjoy it because the hectic summer TV schedule is going to be on us next week! Let’s take a look at what you should be watching tonight.

America’s Got Talent is all new this week, and I have to admit that I find Howard Stern amusing. Sure, he’s a little crass at times, but at heart, he’s a softie. There has been some odd talent this year so far – and I’m not sure what being able to withstand being hit in the testicles by a hammer has to do with talent, but it made for amusing television. (Although I’m not sure he’s ever having any more children.)

On tonight’s episode, auditions continue as Howard, Howie, Sharon, and Nick head to Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida, with an eye out for the acts that could take the million-dollar prize.

To see what kind of talent we find in Florida, tune in to NBC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of America’s Got Talent @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Cake Boss.

Originally, I was going to skip tonight because while there are a few things I’m watching, there was nothing that I was dying to recommend. Then…I sat down last night with my husband & teenage son and we watched the Finals Region 1 from the Southwest of the American Ninja Warrior. Basically, this show is a combination of American Gladiators & Wipeout. Those two things may seem like complete opposites, but oh man, it’s crazy fun to watch. These guys are absolutely amazing. These are lean guys, not all bulked up muscle-bound dudes, but with the upper body strength like crazy. The competitors range from schoolteachers to firemen to police officers to social workers. One hundred finalists will have a shot at a $500,000 cash prize and the chance to win the coveted “American Ninja Warrior” title at the national finals in Las Vegas. There was even a 50+-year-old grandfather of 6, a 40+-year-old father of 2, and so many more interesting contestants that just blew my mind.

On tonight’s episode, “Finals Region 2,” the top 30 finishers from the Midwest region preliminary round (which airs on G4) return to Dallas to compete in the final round of the division, hoping to reach the finals in Las Vegas.

Check out the excitement tonight on NBC at 9/8c.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, The Bachelorette, Pawn Star$, Hatfields & McCoys, Invention Hunters, Diners, Drive-ins & Dives.

Tonight, the History Channel kicks off the epic 3-night miniseries event, Hatfields & McCoys. This mini-series chronicles the legendary and bloody 1880s feud between the Hatfield and McCoy clans, which brought Kentucky and West Virginia to the brink of another civil war. While I know absolutely nothing about this family feud, I’m really excited for this miniseries, as it’s got a stellar cast led by Academy Award winner Kevin Costner and Golden Globe nominee Bill Paxton. The rest of the cast includes Tom Berenger, Powers Boothe, Mare Winningham, Matt Barr, Boyd Holbrook, Jena Malone, Sarah Parish, and Lindsay Pulsipher. From the previews, it looks we’re in for a lot of action, shootouts, and drama. I always enjoy a well-made “western” with an interesting story, and I’m also looking forward to learning more about this epic family feud that I’ve heard of, but don’t know anything about.

On tonight’s first episode, the clash of clans begins when a Hatfield murders a McCoy, and Randall McCoy’s daughter and Devil Anse Hatfield’s son begin a tempestuous, forbidden love affair.

Tune in tonight for part 1 of 3 on History Channel at 9/8c.
