If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/31/12

We’re nearing the end of the week, and there’ve been some great shows on this week. Tonight’s no exception, so read on to find out what we think you should be watching. 🙂

What a season premiere it was for Rookie Blue last week! The story with the kidnapped girl was great and only made that much better by what I believe to be an Emmy-worthy performance by William Shatner as the grandfather who was a drunk and crashed his car into the van he believed to be carrying his granddaughter, who disappeared at the fair with him 7 years before. He put on an emotional performance that damn near had me in tears. Of course I loved the Sam & Andy moments, such as him picking her up at the airport with a sign that read “Dummy.” And so far, I like the new rookie, Nick, who was…engaged to Gail?! That’ll be interesting to watch the fireworks between the two of them… And Noelle is about 3 months pregnant now, but it doesn’t look like anyone but Frank knows. Hmm, wonder when that will come out!

On tonight’s episode, “Class Dismissed,” the theft of an armed police car tops the list of dangerous pranks as local schools wind to a close for the summer. While tracking down the stolen vehicle, Andy and Swarek pick up the trail of a hotheaded teen boy who robbed and violently assaulted a notorious local criminal – who happens to be his girlfriend’s father. Andy and Swarek must find the armed teenager before disaster strikes.

This has been a week that was a bit slow for television, but tonight is the premiere of another new show on The CW called Breaking Pointe. The show takes us into the world of ballet, all the good, the bad and the ugly. We’ll see the excruciating training, competition, jealousy, and joy that being a professional ballet dancer brings.

We’re going to look at the inside of the elite Salt Lake City Ballet Company, Ballet West. It kills the historic ideas that ballet is for a certain kind of man or woman, and shows us that these dancers have the strength of all other athletes as they push their bodies to perfection even through injuries, heart ache and pain. Behind the scenes we’ll see the cut throat competition, the relationships, the drama… it’s going to be absolutely delicious.

On tonight’s episode, “Survival of the Fittest,” it’s every little girl’s dream to grow up and become a ballerina, but nobody knows what the world of competitive ballet is really about. No one sees the sacrifice and discipline it takes to look perfect for the audience. Nobody knows that in order to advance and get the best roles, dancers have to navigate the complicated social politics inside the company. And, no one sees, when the curtain goes down, the drama that bleeds into the dancers’ private lives…until now.

Allow yourself to be swept away into the lives of these talented dancers tonight at 8/7c on The CW. Learn where to find episodes online of Breaking Pointe @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Touch, Duets, and Rookie Blue.

After two weeks away, Touch returns tonight for its 2-hour season finale. Last time, the number 2545 set Martin off investigating a shipping yard and eventually rescued a container full of Israelites. Meanwhile, Clea arrived early to pick up Jake at the center and saw Sheri having Jake perform some kind of test while a man watched via the internet. So, utilizing Jake’s technical smarts, she was able to distract Sheri and get a look at her laptop to see what was really going on. Afterwards, she met with Martin’s sister-in-law, Abigail, and told her about the test that was being given to Jake while a man from Astercorp, her employer, watched.

I like that we are really delving into the overall mythology of the series, where at the beginning of the series, it seemed more like stand-alone short films about interconnected events. However, this has also led to a lot of questions: Did Abigail really not know what her employers were up to? What does Astercorp want with the special 36? Avram seems to know a lot about what’s going on – could he be one of the 36 as well? Hopefully we’ll get some answers in tonight’s season finale.

In tonight’s episode, “Gyre,” the Aster Corporation’s interest in Jake increases as Martin and Abigail seek common ground in the custody battle for his son. Meanwhile, Martin searches for a connection between Jake and Amelia, the missing girl who shares his gift for numbers.

See it tonight on FOX at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Touch @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Rookie Blue, Men at Work, and Sweet Genius.
