If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/22/12

Ahh, it’s the start of a new week. I’m so happy because there’s some great stuff on this week, including the season premiere of Warehouse 13 (which is amazing!), an exciting new episode of Covert Affairs, & lots more. There’s way too much on tonight (honestly, I had a really tough time choosing what to recommend…), but we’ve trid our best to narrow it down for you. We missed a lot, though, so be sure to check out what else we’re watching. 😉

Jenny’s Choice #1

My first pick tonight is the season finale of Food Network Star. It’s been a great season—totally different than any season before it. Having the 3 mentors really was a neat idea. Honestly, I feel like we got to know each of the competitors better, and there was none of the crap we went through in previous seasons…like last season with Penny & everyone else in the house. The teams banded together and were supportive of each other, even down to last week’s episode, and I don’t remember seeing even once the teams fighting each other. I like that because it means we’re seeing the competition to be the next Food Network Star and not a lot of personal stupidity.

The final four contestants are Martie, Yvan, Michele, & Justin. I’ve been going back and forth since last week’s episode. I wanted Ippy to win, but since he’s out of the competition, I think my vote has to go to Yvan, and if not him, Justin. I think Michele would have a hard time keeping me interested, and Martie is a sweet woman, but honestly, she drives me nuts. I find Justin a bit arrogant, which is why he isn’t my top pick, but he’s interesting, so if he won, I’d probably check out his show. Who are YOU rooting for? Comment & let me know!

On tonight’s episode, “Finale: A Star Is Born,” the four remaining contestants compete to win a show on Food Network, and team leaders Bobby Flay, Alton Brown, and Giada De Laurentiis present their candidates after reviewing their journey to the end, where America’s vote is unveiled.

Megan’s Choice

The Bachelorette this season has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and I, for one, can not wait to see who Emily chooses. There have been some interesting men on the show this year, from Kalan, who was beyond a jerk, and Ryan, who thought he was God’s gift to the world, to poor, clueless, humble Doug—it’s been an adventure for sure. Emily has narrowed it down to Arie, the sexy, race car driver, and Jef, the edgy, witty country boy. I personally wouldn’t know who to choose, but I’m leaning towards Jef.

On tonight’s episode, Jef and Arie arrive to meet Emily’s protective family, hoping to make great first impressions with everyone. Assuming she will be faced with two proposals, Emily is finally forced to choose which man will fit best into her life, as well as Ricki’s.

To see who Emily chooses and if they propose, tune in to the 2-hour season finale on ABC at 8/7c. Then stick around the for the 1-hour “After the Final Rose” special at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Bachelorette @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing True Blood, Big Brother, and Drop Dead Diva.

Kyle’s Choice

Breaking Bad has returned, and the season is off to a great start. Last week, we had a bit of a heist/caper episode where Walter, Jesse, and Mike hatched a plan to wipe out the lab video surveillance footage stored on Gus’s laptop by driving a truck full of magnets up to the evidence room where it was stored. Meanwhile, Skylar discovered that Ted was (barely) still alive but was relieved to see that he was too frightened of her to say anything to the police.

Walter is getting much more confident and scary. Last week, he told Saul, “you’re not done ’til I say you’re done,” and his “I forgive you” to Skylar was especially creepy and controlling. I think Skylar is starting to really understand what type of man Walt is turning into. I couldn’t help but be reminded of The Sopranos and the relationship between Tony and Carmella. I can’t wait to see where this season goes next and how Walter and Jesse get back into business—there is no way Walter is going to just let that kind of power go. I’m also interested to see what the German holding company that was bankrolling Gus does once they find out about Walter.

In tonight’s episode, “Madrigal,” Walt and Jesse ponder a new business venture and consider an unlikely partner for the enterprise; the DEA follows new leads in its investigation.

Check it out tonight on AMC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Breaking Bad @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, Chopped, Food Network Star, Leverage, Falling Skies, The Great Escape, The Glades, Political Animals, Drop Dead Diva, True Blood, The Newsroom, Weeds, and Episodes.

Jenny’s Choice #2

It’s a night of double episodes of Chopped on Food Network, which thrills me to no end because I really love this show.

First up, at 8/7c, it’s Food Network Star alums—Aarti, Amy, Melissa, & Jeff—who battle it out for charities before an all-star panel of judges. Cooking for the powerhouse panel of Bobby Flay, Giada De Laurentiis, and Alton Brown, the competitors must be ready for whatever they might find in the notorious baskets if they want to win $10,000 for their charity. It is a bubbly first round with sparkling cider as a mystery ingredient. Then a black cloud hovers over the entree round, in the form of black chickens. In the dessert round, it all comes down to which Star crafts the better dessert from frozen peas and cinnamon cereal.

Then at 10/9c, the show heads to an Arizona ranch for a special tournament. Sixteen grill masters will cook it out for a grand prize of $50,000. Some of the contestants include husband and wife Tom & Jen Duncan, Ray Lampe (known as Dr. Barbecue), food blogger Robyn Lindars, and Carey Bringle, who lost a leg at the 18 due to a bone tumor. In tonight’s first episode, the contestants must deal with cookies & yak steaks in the appetizer round, a giant surprise in the entree round, and chocolate and fruit in the dessert round.

don’t miss them tonight on Food Network at 8/7c & 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Chopped @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’m also going to be watching/DVRing The Bachelorette, Leverage, Falling Skies, The Glades, The Great Escape, & Longmire.

  1. Kyle says:

Ippy?! I found him just way to laid back and boring. Not that I have ever watched any of the winners’ shows, I’d really like to see Justin win as I’d love to see another Good Eats style show. Have no interest in watching shows by Michelle or Martie (don’t they already have Artee Party why do they also need Martie Party?!) but Yvan might be decent.

  2. Jenny says:

I dunno. I just kind of liked him. 🙂 Yeah, another Good Eats style show would be good. And yeah, I agree about Aarti Party/Martie Party. LOL At least I really like Aarti. I watch her show. *shrug* I think Yvan would be good. I love when family shows up on a show like that. heh
