If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/19/12

Wow, what a great week for TV so far. Last night was new episodes of my favorite new comedy, The New Normal and a great new Sons of Anarchy among others. What did you watch? Did you take our advice? You should. We’re pretty smart. 😉 If not, you get another chance to tonight, because we’re here to tell you four shows we think are worth your time. 😀

I have to admit that I didn’t watch last season of Survivor. I’d become bored by the show. It was the same old thing, and I didn’t get invested in any of the players the last time I watched. Plus, it seemed more and more like they brought on flirty, sexy girls just to have that element for viewers, and frankly, if I wanted to see that, I’d watch other shows that I have no interest in watching. But this season has brought me back to at least the beginning of the season to see how I like it. For one, there are going to be three teams of six instead of two teams of nine. For another, there are three returning contestants—but not just players like Russell Hanz or Ozzy or someone like that. No, they are bringing back Jonathan (finished 14th in Cook Islands and was evacuated because of a horrible, nasty knee infection in Micronesia), Michael (evacuated after he FELL INTO THE FIRE in the Australian Outback season), and Russell (evacuated because of severe dehydration and after passing out and nearly taking his face off on the corner of the wooden game board thing in the Samoa season). I wasn’t a huge fan of Russell’s, but I liked Jonathan, and I loved Michael, so I’m really excited to see how these guys are going to play this time around. Each of them will be on one of the three teams, so I can’t wait to see how the other tribe members treats them.

On tonight’s episode, “Survivor Smacked Me in the Chops,” eighteen new castaways travel to the most treacherous parts of the Philippines to outplay their adversaries while trying to survive among the extremely harsh elements. Three former players removed from the game for medical reasons return for revenge.

I thought I was going to hate The X Factor with the addition of Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, but I didn’t—I actually loved it MORE! Britney was hilarious and even a bit brutally honest, which made for delicious television. Demi proved to have some good advice and even a few wisecracks at Simon, which added to the amusement. There were a lot of great singers and a couple of really terrible ones—including the crazy Candy Girl guy, who was just plain creepy. I hope there are as many amusing moments this week.

On tonight’s episode, we watch more hopefuls lay it all on the stage with the third round of auditions.

To see if this week yields as much talent as last week, tune in to FOX at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The X Factor @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Survivor.

I can’t wait for tonight’s live 90-minute season finale of Big Brother. Last week, Dan once again blindsided Danielle. He got her to remove him from the block and put Shane up in his place. He then he voted Shane out, despite promising her that he wouldn’t. I have no idea why Danielle still trusted Dan after all of his fake-outs, but I’m glad she did.

Tonight, we find out which of Ian, Dan, and Danielle wins the two-part Head of Household competition and who he or she chooses to go up against. In the finals, I always prefer to see two contestants who actually played the game, rather than the folks whose “strategy” was to ride coattails. So I’m really hoping it is Ian and Dan who face the jury vote. Dan has played an amazing game, but he has also upset a lot of folks, so I’m hoping that plays to Ian’s favor, and he can take home the win.

See who comes away the victor tonight on CBS at 9:30/8:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Big Brother @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, The X Factor, Top Chef Masters, and Royal Pains.

This is one of my guilty pleasures (next to America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway, for instance). The Challenge (formerly called The Real World/Road Rules Challenge) is a competition which puts contestants from previous seasons of Road Rules and The Real World in a competition. This season is nicknamed “Battle of the Season,” and the teams will be built from people that were in the same season of The Real World. Each episode consists of a challenge, which will result in a losing and a winning team. The losing team will have to battle in the arena to stay in the game. The winning team will decide which other team will have to get in the arena. The twist this season is that each team will start with four players, but only two will battle in the arena, so only two people will have to leave The Challenge that week.

Tonight, on “Tis the Season,” competitors from former seasons of The Real World gather in Turkey to compete as teams for the $250,000 cash grand prize, but pre-existing relationship issues plague everyone. An unforeseen hookup changes the hierachy of the entire house.

Remember, this first episode will be 90 minutes. See which team will be the first to be cut in half on MTV at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Challenge @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching The X Factor and Oh Sit!.
