American Horror Story Season 1 Blu-ray Review

American Horror Story Season 1 came out on Blu-ray & DVD on September 25th, but I was fortunate enough to be given an advanced copy. If you have seen the show, you know that this is an amazing treat.

This twisted show comes from the mind of Ryan Murphy and follows the Harmons (Dylan McDermott & Connie Britton) as they start over in a new house. This is a crazy adventure to watch, filled with love, sex, and revenge. Of course, it also features an amazing performance by Jessica Lange, which won her both a Golden Globe and an Emmy.

I’m taking a look at the extras included on the Blu-ray & DVD to let you know if it’s worth spending the big bucks on, so read on!

Episode Commentary: There is some excellent commentary on the pilot episode by Ryan Murphy himself. I love the fact that Ryan Murphy can go from being a writer on Glee to writing such disturbing and delicious drama. Well played, and the commentary is very amusing.

Behind the Scenes: I‘m a TV nerd in many ways, and I love taking a tour behind the scenes and watching how they made the show. Inside details are what make the story even more fun to watch over and over again. On this box set, we get “Behind the Fright: The Making of American Horror Story,” “On the Set of American Horror Story Season One,” “Overture to Horror: Creating the Title Sequence,” and “Out of the Shadows: Meet the House Ghosts.”

Out of these options, my favorites were definitely the look into the making of that creepy title sequence and meeting the house ghosts—I like to see what kind of twisted minds are behind what we see on the screen.

There are a few other extras. One of my other favorites was “The Murder House presented by Eternal Darkness Tours of Hollywood”—seriously…watch with the lights on!

I’m not going to break down the set by episode or give a deep, in-depth review, because if you are buying this set, you’ve either seen it and love it, or haven’t seen it and therefore I’d rather not spoil it all for you!

Basically, if you’re looking for a creepy, well-written, edge-of-your-seat drama to become quickly addicted to, look no further! Go out and get yourself a copy of American Horror Story now. I promise you won’t regret it. (Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any fear of the dark, feelings of being watched, or nightmares that may plague you after watching this show.)
