Reality even on The Golf Channel

This is a little outside my usual television repretoire. However, The Golf Channel has been pushing boundaries to bring us some original programming besides just the golf competitions. If you thought that The Golf Channel was just a stuffy channel for old men—think again!

Jump ahead to learn about 3 original series that are making golf a valid topic, even in my house.

Big Break Greenbrier

First up, we have Big Break Greenbrier, which is a challenge-type reality show, with the winner getting the sought-after exemption into the 2013 Greenbrier Classic.

This season, we have 12 men, who are all aspiring to play on tour, and we get to watch them battle it out on the greens. I have to say from the clips I’ve seen that I’m already interested. It’s going into episode 4, and watching the clips for the challenges makes me wonder what took me so long to jump on board.

Check out the clip below, and don’t forget to tune in to The Golf Channel tonight at 9/8c.

Chasing the Dream

Next on the tee, we have Chasing the Dream, where we watch two men who share the dream of playing on the PGA TOUR try to make that dream come true.

Chris Anderson is a successful businessman with a wife and three kids. Robbie Biershenk owns a driving range and struggles to make ends meet. What do they have in common? The drive and love of the game. Watch as they soar to new heights and crash to new lows as they risk everything to prove that in the end, it’s worth Chasing the Dream.

Check out the clip below, and be sure to tune in to The Golf Channel on Tuesdays at 10/9c.

Our Longest Drive

Finally, completing the perfect par 3 with The Longest Drive, which isn’t a competition but a story of a life-long friendship with strong roots in the game.

Three men, with the ashes of their friend, take off on a crazy adventure, driving over 5,500 miles to play golf in the Arctic Circle. We will watch these men bond, fight, grieve, and ultimately experience the most amazing golf adventure of their lifetime.

I wasn’t expecting to immediately bond with the men on this show, but I did. I felt for all of them and found myself intrigued.

Check out the clip below, and then tune in to The Golf Channel on Tuesdays at 10:30/9:30c to see if it is a hole in one for you, too.

There you have it, folks… A trip outside my usual comfort zone has given this Scottish girl an interest in her ancestors’ sport. Perhaps my dad was on to something after all!
