If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/19/12

Is it Easter yet? 😉 I’m so ready for the holidays to be over that I think perhaps the Grinch came in and stole my Christmas spirit. I’ll find it somewhere… In the meantime, let’s see what’s on television to bring us smiles and joy.

Megan’s Choice

rascalflattssmallI’m going to suggest a Christmas special tonight, even though my spirit is weak this year, because it’s a fabulous cause and a wonderful group of entertainers. Tonight is A Home for the Holidays with Rascal Flatts, and it’s following adoption stories, as well as some performances to warm our hearts. Every child deserves a loving home, so adoption is an important topic, especially at Christmas. It also helps that Rascal Flatts is an group of adorable boys with fantastic voices—makes it an easy place to be.

On the special tonight, celebrities present inspirational stories of adoption; performers include Rascal Flatts, Rachel Crow, Phillip Phillips, Melissa Etheridge, and Matchbox Twenty.

To join in with the seasonal inspiration, tune into CBS at 8/7c.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching The X Factor.

topchefsmallTonight, I’m recommending Top Chef because it’s the only thing I watch that’s new tonight! (Well, I do plan to watch The Hour, but I’m a bit behind.) Last week, for the quickfire challenge, the twelve cheftestants had to cook a dish inspired by their own genealogy. The catch was that they only had one knife to share amongst all of them, so they had to get creative, finding anything to cut and slice with—from kitchen shears, to pizza wheels, to meat slicers. In the end, it was Brooke’s “homey” apple crostata with cheddar cheese dish that earned her the immunity. For the main challenge, the chefs had to cater a homecoming party for celebrity couple Anna Faris and Chris Pratt. Brooke won this challenge as well, this time for her lamb-stuffed squid on black rice with coconut milk, and took home a brand new Prius. Meanwhile, Eliza was sent packing for her poorly-cooked elk ribeye.

I’m always impressed with the great guests they bring onto this show. It was a lot of fun having the comedic power couple of Chris and Anna on the show—Chris was cracking jokes the whole time, asking if Pacific Northwest Squirrel was in season. I also really enjoy the curve-balls they throw at these cheftestants—like the single knife thing. It’s fun to see how they adapt.

On tonight’s episode, “Foiled Again,” an entire pantry wrapped in aluminum foil tests the chefs. Also: head-to-head battles. Former contestant Stephanie Izard is the guest judge.

JJ’s Choice

hotincleveland1219smallTV Land produces such a gem when it comes to Hot In Cleveland. Sometimes, it’s like the younger, modern version of Golden Girls, not in the least because of Betty White, but because the leads go together so well. And this season added Jay Harrington (one of my favorites ever since Better Off Ted) as a love interest for Melanie, which got kicked into gear last week when he overheard Melanie talking about him.

On tonight’s episode, “GILFS,” Melanie wonders if Alec heard her confess her feelings; Elka and Mamie trick Joy into helping them; Victoria and her co-star fake a relationship. Alan Dale, Georgia Engel, Jay Harrington, Pat Harrington, & Cassie Scerbo guest star.

See how things play out for the women tonight on TV Land at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Hot in Cleveland @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching Happily Divorced.
