If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/12/13

The TV world is starting to wind down for summer, but there’s still a few things to keep us busy. Let’s see what we think you should be watching.

familytree512smallTonight is the series premiere of Family Tree on HBO, and I’m curious to say the least. Something about another HBO comedy excites me, because if it’s good, it’s always SO good! Let’s hope it’s good.

The story revolves around the journey of 30-year-old Tom Chadwick (Chris O’Dowd), a man who has few roots, little family, and a somewhat unsure sense of his purpose in life. Having recently lost his job and girlfriend, Tom inherits a mysterious box of belongings from a great-aunt he doesn’t remember ever meeting, triggering a passion to investigate his family lineage. As Tom’s interest in genealogy grows, his life expands and evolves in unexpected directions, as he uncovers a world of unusual stories and characters in the U.K. and the U.S., as well as a growing sense of who he is and who his real family are.

On tonight’s premiere, “The Box,” Tom is bequeathed an old chest of curios; Tom seeks information about a black and white photo in the chest.

To watch this journey into Tom’s family tree begin, tune in to HBO at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching Once Upon a Time and Iron Chef America.

survivor2013smallTonight is Survivor’s big season finale and reunion show. Last week, it was the family visit episode. Brenda and her dad won the reward challenge, but she gave up her loved one so that four of the other tribe members could each spend time with two of their own loved ones. And what did that get her in the end? Voted out, because she was too big of a threat! Meanwhile, Dawn was totally losing her mind—practically having a nervous breakdown while bawling her eyes out. And Erik wasn’t doing much better, going cookoo for coconuts.

The final five are Sherri, Cochran, Eddie, Dawn, and Erik, but there’s really only one person I want to see win, and that is Cochran. He has tremendously improved his social and physical game since the first time he was on the show and totally deserves to win. However, the others know this, and he could be a target. Meanwhile, Eddie is somehow still there, and he could do well with the jury, being the only surviving “fan” still in the game.

On tonight’s episode, “Last Push,” a medical emergency threatens to end one castaway’s game. Later, the finalists are questioned by the jury members, who then vote for the winner. Then, in the live reunion show, the winner is revealed as the 20 castaways reunite in Los Angeles to discuss the season.

See who goes home the winner tonight on CBS at 8/7c, followed by the reunion show & the announcement of the million-dollar winner at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Once Upon a Time, Revenge, The Cleveland Show, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Veep, Family Tree, and Nurse Jackie.

revenge512smallRight on the heels of a season 3 renewal (yay), tonight is the two-hour season finale of Revenge, and I am really curious what is going to happen. Last week at the end of the episode, the lights went off in New York, most probably because the Falcon changed some of Nolan’s code.

Overall, this season has been quite up-and-down. The beginning of the season featuring Amanda, Emily, and the Graysons was quite exciting. But The Initiative was a really bad addition to the show, and this resulted in a backlog of episodes that I still had to watch. But I have caught up now, and with the death of Trask and the focus back to Emily’s revenge and how it affects the people around her, the last two episodes have been amazing. And next season, we are getting a new show runner, which will be interesting to see.

On tonight’s episode, “Truth, Part One,” a series of events has been set in motion, and it all comes to a head in one catastrophic moment. In “Truth, Part Two,” the devastation leads to a heartbreaking death that will send shockwaves down the shoreline and force Emily to take a hard look at the truth and the path of revenge she is on.

See what happens on the two-hour finale on ABC starting at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Once Upon a Time.
