If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/7/13

The first week of summer vacation is behind us, and so far, no one has killed each other, so that’s a plus! This next week is going to be filled with lots of trips to the park, the lake, and of course, sun block galore…so before I start this week of insanity, let’s see what you should be watching tonight.

Megan’s Choice

whodunnitsmallI have actually been enjoying Whodunnit?, because while it’s not exactly the best acting or contestants, I find the mysteries to be intriguing. The part where they have to examine the body in the morgue is quite realistic, which would probably be a little too intense for me personally. Last week, we watched Adrianna get a card saying she was in danger, which was fine with me, because that woman was incredibly annoying. At the end, we watched her try to escape from the house on a golf cart, which exploded, “killing” her.

On tonight’s episode, “Kaboom,” as the 10 remaining guests attempt to solve the latest murder, suspicion and tension among them leads to more alliances and backstabbing.

To watch and see the contestants start to crumble, tune in to ABC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching True Blood, Ray Donovan, and Food Court Wars.

Jenny’s Choice

foodcourtwarssmallYou all know by now that my favorite genre of TV is cop shows. Another genre that I love, though, are food competition shows. For a long time, it was only Good Network Star and Iron Chef America. Then I added Chopped, which I watch religiously. And then a couple of seasons ago, I started watching Top Chef (can’t believe I took so long to watch that!). So whenever a new show like that is put on the schedule, I jump on it right away. And tonight, Food Network is premiering a brand new one that looks like it’ll be a lot of fun. Food Court Wars is hosted by Tyler Florence, who also hosts The Great Food Truck Race. Tyler scours the United States to help aspiring entrepreneurs realize their lifelong dreams of opening their own restaurant. Each episode features two teams competing against each other for the chance to open a restaurant, rent-free, for one year in a mall food court. But first, the two teams must create an irresistible food court concept in 48 hours and then outsell the other team in a single day of business at the mall, with the winner awarded their new food court restaurant.

On tonight’s episode, “Suck the Shuck vs. Po’ Boy Station,” in Meridian, Miss., host Tyler Florence holds a culinary battle between two teams that prepare tamales and New Orleans-inspired cuisine, and one duo will emerge victorious to win their own restaurant in a mall food court.”

Find out if tamales or Creole cooking is more popular in Meridian, Mississippi, tonight on Food Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing HGTV Star, Food Network Star, Whodunnit?, & Crossing Lines.

Kyle’s Choice

foodnetworkstar2013smallLast week on Food Network Star, the contestants participated in a 4th of July live broadcast, where they had to answer viewer questions while also doing their own demonstrations “live” on the air. Ultimately, it was Viet who was eliminated, but it looked like we were going to finally see Russell, the annoying “7 Culinary Deadly Sins” guy, go. But somehow, he was saved because he successfully delivered a commercial break segue! Meanwhile, as contestants are eliminated, they have been competing on a web series, Star Salvation, for a chance to re-enter the competition. In this week’s episode of the web series, Lovely eliminated both Viet and Danushka (yes, there was actually some threat of her returning—and only because the web series is based on food and not personality). The eliminated chef from tonight’s episode will be the last person to take on Lovely for the opportunity to re-enter the competition. I’m still rooting for Food Truck guy Chris to become the next Food Network Star.

On tonight’s episode, “Product Pitch,” the aspiring stars need to create a product representing their brand and culinary style, which they then have to pitch to a panel of food executives from Target, Kellogg’s, and Kraft.

See whose product comes out on top tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, Celebrity Wife Swap, Whodunnit?, Crossing Lines, Food Court Wars, Falling Skies, Drop Dead Diva, Devious Maids, Copper, True Blood, Family Tree, Dexter, Ray Donovan, and The Venture Bros.

JJ’s Choice

trueblood77smallThis season of True Blood has improved ever so slightly, but enough for me to stick with it for now. Seasons 4 and 5 were quite weak, but the storytelling is a little bit more focused, and people seem to talk more—both aspects that were bothering me to no end. This season, they should still lose a few characters, or maybe the show could benefit from 40-minute episodes to cut it down? Ah well.

On tonight’s episode, “At Last,” Sookie confronts her growing attraction to the mysterious Ben, Eric counters Burrell’s anti-vampire initiatives, Andy’s faerie daughters end up keeping dangerous company, and Sam and Nicole make a connection.

Find out what happens on HBO at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Whodunnit? and Falling Skies.
