If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/28/13

I’m so glad it’s Wednesday, because that means we’re halfway through the week and one more day until my husband’s vacation. That, and there’s some great stuff on tonight, so check out our recommendations! 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

This has been the best season of Top Shot, by far. I love that it’s the All-Stars, all returning players that didn’t quite reach the top spot in their previous seasons, competing for another chance at being the “Top Shot.” Throughout the season, they’ve been competitive, but they have shown good sportsmanship the entire season, too. The way the show changed it up this season, by basing the elimination challenge solely on how well they shot. There’s no voting. There’s no favoritism. I can’t get over how much of a difference that’s made in my enjoyment of the show. I liked it before, but this season, I’ve completely loved it—even when my favorite, Kelly, went home. 😉 Last week was great. The guys had to shoot exploding targets from the back of a moving Army half-track. Then in the elimination challenge, it was a game of horse, where they chose their weapon, their target, their distance, and their shooting stance. It was a lot of fun, but William ended up going home when Brian—who showed a tremendous sportsmanship and made it a good, fair shot, rather than choosing something he was almost guaranteed to win—out-shot him in a tie-breaking round.

Tonight is the season finale, and I’m rooting for Gary to win. He’s just such a sweet, nice guy, and he’s adorable. But honestly, whoever wins deserves it, and I won’t be upset, because they’ve all had a great season. I will have my fingers crossed that we get another season, and while it won’t be another season of All-Stars, I hope that they’ll continue with the way they did it this season and not have the contestants vote for the people going into the elimination challenges.

On tonight’s episode, “Last Man Standing,” the final four must crawl through a tunnel, dodge barbed wire, and slither through mud with an AK-47. With the title of “Top Shot All-Stars” at stake, various weapons from the season test the speed and precision of the last two competitors in this fast-paced showdown.

I know that there a lot of people who don’t appreciate the hilarity of Duck Dynasty, but I do. There’s something to be said about a family that can laugh at each other and get along so well. Last episode, we saw Martin get ready for a date, and all the wives trying to get him cleaned up. My question is why did he have so many mustard packets in the fridge?

On tonight’s episode, “Hot Tub Grime Machine,” the guys try to find a hot tub for Godwin; Phil and Kay pass a recipe on to Sadie and John Luke.

Kyle’s Choice

I have been enjoying NBC’s summer comedy/drama Camp. Last week, Grace’s two dads, Raffi and Todd, decided to take advantage of the mayor’s legalization of gay marriage. The whole camp got involved with the planning—even Roger, who offered to throw the bachelor party (and get a little publicity for Ridgefield in the process). But things soon went wrong, with Todd having pre-wedding jitters followed by the re-institution of ban on gay marriage. The guys missed their window of opportunity, but still decided to have a commitment ceremony anyway. Meanwhile, after Robbie rubbed his new relationship in her face, Sarah decided to leave Camp Little Otter; despite her strong feelings for him, Mack pushed away Cole so that she wouldn’t hold him back from reaching his true potential; and Kip and Marina finally kissed.

The series does a great job of blending comedy and drama, while even providing the occasional social commentary. It’s been an entertaining series so far and a perfect fit for summer. While last week was a little more on the serious side, the show always manages to bring together all the humor, pranks, and summer romance drama you usually find in a summer camp-set feature film.

On tonight’s episode, “Harvest Moon,” Mack anxiously prepares for her parents’ arrival at the annual Harvest Moon Festival. Meanwhile, Kip and Marina sneak off together; and Robbie learns that Sarah is working for Roger.

JJ’s Choice

I was late to the MasterChef party, but this season so far has been a treat. I both hate and love me some Krissi. I don’t always agree with her, but she can be funny! So far, the girls this season have been my favorites, although Jesse will need to step up her game.

On tonight’s episode, “Top 5 Compete, Parts 1 and 2 of 2,” a two-hour episode, the sons of the judges help with a mystery box, and the five home cooks must prepare a Southern-inspired luncheon. Afterward, the bottom three face a pressure test, ending the journey of one cook.
