If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/8/13

It’s the start of another week, and I don’t know about you, but the heat has ratcheted back up here in Kansas. We were butting up against 100 degrees yesterday. Bleh. Hopefully it’ll cool off soon. I’m going to be sitting in front of the fan while I watch TV tonight, and in case you need to do the same, we have some recommendations on what you should be watching. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

rvgkidssmallI’ve really enjoyed the Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri cook-off shows with celebrities, and this season, they’re switching things up, and it’s Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off, featuring eight of the most talented kids, mentored by Rachael and Guy, as they enter the kitchen to cook their way through four rounds of real competition for the chance at winning their own Web series. I know there are kids who could cook circles around me, so I’m looking forward to seeing this one.

On tonight’s episode, “First Lady Luncheon,” after Rachael and Guy choose their teams, the kids are immediately given a Pop Quiz — create a signature dish that best expresses their culinary chops. Then during the Cook-Off Challenge, each team is challenged with creating a fresh, delicious lunch to be tasted by teen star Stefanie Scott. Michelle Obama also guest stars.

See how well these five boys and three girls can cook tonight on Food Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Unforgettable, The Great Food Truck Race, Cutthroat Kitchen, & Iron Chef America.

Kyle’s Choice

breakingbad98smallWe are down to the final four episodes of Breaking Bad. Last week, Hank showed up just as Jesse was about to burn down the White home. He took Jesse back to his house, where Jesse confessed everything to Hank and Gomez. Hank realized he still didn’t have any hard evidence and had Jesse set up a meeting with Walt. Jessie was wearing a wire, but as he approached the meeting location, he panicked, and afraid for his life, he bailed. He told Hank he had his own plan to take down Walt. Meanwhile, Walt made a call to have Jesse taken care of.

I am loving psycho Marie and her constant plotting on how she could kill Walter. I’m also enjoying how Skylar can see through Walt’s horrible lies and how she even encouraged him to have Jesse killed after he poured gasoline all over their home. But when is the clueless Walt Jr. going to finally figure out what is really going on?! And will either Jesse or Walt not make it out of all of this alive?

On tonight’s episode, “To’hajiilee,” things heat up for Walt in unexpected ways.

To see if Walt comes away unscathed tonight, tune in to AMC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off, The Great Food Truck Race, Cutthroat Kitchen, Talking Bad, The Newsroom, Dexter, and Ray Donovan.

JJ’s Choice

thenewsroom98smallThe last new episode of The Newsroom aired two weeks ago, and it was spectacular. It tied up the season-long bits of deposition we were getting on Genoa, and as it turned out, the depositions were for the case of Jerry filing for wrongful termination. Because Jerry was inserted into the show this season and it was clear that from day one that he was too focused on Genoa, I couldn’t feel for him. Mentally, I can understand that being the one fired would feel wrong, but Jerry really was instrumental in the story AND the manipulation of the story. And now that Leone has declined the resignation of Will, Mac, and Charlie, they will have to move forward, even though they don’t have any believability at the moment.

On tonight’s episode, “Election Night, Part 1,” News Night moves forward with the 2012 election night coverage, with Will as the director of morale. Sloane is perturbed that her book was auctioned off with a forged signature, while Mac tasks Neal to fix a Wikipedia page. And Jim weighs the cons of retracting of a call he made too soon, knowing that Sam wants a screw-up-free night.

Find out how News Night covers the election night on HBO at 10/9c.
