This Week on TV – 10/27/13-11/2/13

Welcome to a new week of TV! There was more news over the last week of pick-ups and cancellations… Drop Dead Diva, Suits, Homeland, & Masters of Sex were renewed, Dads got a full-season order (boggles my mind…), and there’s crazy talk about bringing Body of Proof back (Yay!) and getting a Charmed reboot (double Yay!). But ratings for many of the new shows are very low, so we may be looking at more cancellations this week. If you’ve got stuff to watch, better do it now before it’s gone! And on that note, check out the schedule so you know what’s still around. 🙂

Tonight is the series premiere of The Governor’s Wife on A&E at 10/9c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10:30/9:30c. The show follows former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards and his 35-year-old wife, Trina, as they attempt to bring a new addition to their unique family. Edwin Edwards, now 86 years old and still dubbed the “King of Louisiana,” shocked the state (and his family) when he married Trina Grimes Scott, a woman 50 years his junior. They became pen pals while Edwin was serving an 8 1/2 year prison sentence for bribery and extortion – charges stemming from his tenure as Governor of Louisiana – and married when Edwin was released. This colorful couple heads a newly combined family comprised of Edwin’s daughters: Anna, a 63-year-old, four-time divorcée and Victoria, a seen-it-all former performer who is never far from her electronic cigarette, as well as Trina’s sons from a previous marriage, 16-year-old Logan and 14-year-old Trevor.

Tonight is the series premiere of Naked Vegas on Syfy at 10/9c. Tonight is the series premiere of Time of Death on Showtime at 9/8c. The series will take an unflinching, in-depth look at some remarkable individuals facing their own imminent mortality. Cameras will follow brave, terminally ill individuals as they live out their final days, supported by family, friends, healthcare teams and hospice workers, who gently help guide the process. From executive producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of the Magical Elves production team (Top Chef, Fashion Star, The Real L Word), the show weaves together these complex, unforgettable stories into an affecting portrait: a single mother of three with Stage IV breast cancer; a grandmother with inoperable pancreatic cancer who is also a psychotherapist who specializes in the field of death and dying; a veteran with a rare cancer facing the end with his parents beside him; and a young woman with Stage IV melanoma, among other profiles. Each unique, emotionally resonant tale will serve as a tangible, hopeful reminder of the finite nature of time and mortality.
 
Tonight is also the series premiere of It Takes a Choir on USA Network at 10/9c. Based on the hit UK series, this show follows the distinct and charming choirmaster Gareth Malone, who unites an unexpected mix of characters through the spellbinding power of music. A true fish out of water, in both his environment and teaching style, Malone finds himself in the craziest situations with some of the biggest characters. Each episode culminates in a unified and powerful public performance from the choir in front of their family, friends and community.
