Tonight is the series premiere of Almost Human on FOX at 8/7c. Starring Karl Urban (Star Trek) and Michael Ealy (Sleeper Cell, Common Law), the new series is an action-packed police drama set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids. The year is 2048. Meet John Kennex, a cop who survived one of the most catastrophic attacks ever made against the police department. After waking up from a 17-month coma, he can’t remember much – except that his partner was killed; his girlfriend left him after the attack; and he lost one of his legs and is now outfitted with a highly sophisticated synthetic appendage. Suffering from depression, mental atrophy, trauma-onset OCD, PTSD, and the “psychological rejection of his synthetic body part,” John returns to work at the behest of longtime ally Captain Sandra Maldonado (Emmy Award nominee Lili Taylor, Six Feet Under, Ransom). By mandate, every cop must partner with a robot. And despite his passionate aversion to androids, John is paired up with a battle-ready MX-43. But he abruptly terminates his partnership after the robot discovers incriminating information about him. So technician Rudy Lom (Mackenzie Crook, Pirates of the Caribbean franchise) introduces John to Dorian, a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses. Although such responses were deemed flaws, it is in these “flaws” that John relates to Dorian most. After all, John is part-machine now, and Dorian is part-human. John and Dorian’s understanding of each other not only complements them, it connects them. As he adjusts to working with his new partner, John also must learn to get along with his new colleagues, including the eager and somewhat starstruck Detective Valerie Stahl (Minka Kelly, Friday Night Lights, (500) Days of Summer) and the distrustful Detective Richard Paul (Michael Irby, The Unit), who does not welcome John back with open arms. The show will follow the week-to-week missions of John and Dorian, as they fight crime across this futuristic landscape, while the mysteries surrounding his attack and the larger mythology of this new world unfold.

Tonight is also the series premiere of On the Rocks on Food Network at 10/9c. Failing nightlife establishments across America get a complete overhaul in a last ditch effort to make a profit in Food Network’s new series. Top consultant and bartender extraordinaire, John Green, assesses establishments that have taken a ‘dive’ in hopes of filling the bar stools and pint glasses once again. Whether he is shaking hands or martinis, John knows the business behind the bar and never settles for mediocrity, but can he make these bars the toast of the town? Over the course of eight episodes, John visits the worst of the worst in nightlife joints. From a dive bar in San Diego to a struggling English pub in Royal Oak, Mich., John uses his business savvy and bartending expertise to save these businesses from total collapse. Updates to weathered décor and flawed menus, tackling staff problems through intense bar training, and coaching establishments with inadequate management; John’s on a mission to help shabby watering holes and dysfunctional nightclubs reinvent themselves.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of The Drama Queen on E! at 11/10c. In a world where all you need is a video to go viral for instant notoriety, those that seek sustainability past 15 minutes call on one person: Marki Costello. Costello, the granddaughter of Hollywood royalty, famed comedian Lou Costello, has been a talent manager and hosting coach for over 20 years working with the likes of CeeLo Green, Kelly Osbourne and countless others. Whether it’s coaching the famous or discovering untapped talent, Costello is a pro at spotting and turning an unknown into a household name. Costello’s day consist of not only being the boss at her Creative Management Entertainment Group, one of the busiest and most successful management firms in Los Angeles, to co-parenting two sons with longtime partner Tommy. In the end, what Marki wants, Marki gets.

Saturday

Saturday is the series premiere of Atlantis on BBC America at 9/8c. When Jason (Jack Donnelly, Dancing on the Edge) sets out to find his father, he could never imagine his journey would lead to a strange, yet impossibly familiar land full of dangerous creatures, legendary heroes and palaces so vast it was said they were built by giants – the ancient fabled city of Atlantis. A young man trying to unearth his roots and find his missing father, Jason’s search unexpectedly leads him to this strange mythical realm – and whether he likes it or not, he isn’t leaving anytime soon. He must now familiarize himself with their customs, earn a living, forge alliances and fight-off otherworldly foes. Jason quickly learns that beneath the surface of what appears to be a magical place, is a dark and simmering past filled with secrets and deceit to which he now seems inexplicably bound. And when he becomes embroiled in a perilous game of politics and power, Jason will need all the help he can get.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Lucas Bros. Moving Company on FOX at 11:15/10:15c. The stand-up comedy of New York-based identical twins – and television newcomers – Kenny and Keith Lucas (The Lucas Brothers) gets animated in this new show. With the help of the people of Greenpoint, the twins run a moving company called Lucas Bros. Moving Co. Their customers are often apprehensive to hire such a scrawny duo, but the brothers like to remind them that that’s why God made two of them. A day that begins simply by moving a bed down the street may lead to the threat of city-wide catastrophe, resolved only with the help of a once-famous ’90s wrestler. No matter what happens around them, Kenny and Keith always remain totally, bizarrely unfazed.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Golan the Insatiable on FOX at 11:30/10:30c. A fearsome godlord from an alternate dimension is trapped in the small town of Oak Grove, where his only friend is a macabre little girl named Dylan (comedian Mary Mack). Together, they fight the boredom of suburban life. Golan (voice of series creator Josh Miller) is Dylan’s ideal playmate and she constantly urges him to destroy and wreak havoc on the town that makes her so miserable.

Tonight is also a new episode of The Graham Norton Show on BBC America at 11/10c, with guests Emma Thompson, Matt Smith, David Tennant, Jimmy Carr, & Robbie Williams.

Finally, tonight is a new episode of Saturday Night Live on NBC at 11:29/10:29c, with host Josh Hutcherson and musical guest Haim.
