If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/13/13

Yesterday, my fiance went into the woods and got us a beautiful Christmas tree—there are definitely advantages to owning land and planting trees. It’s beautiful, and I love the way it makes my house smell like the forest. Now, while I sit here watching TV and enjoying my holiday cheer, let’s see what’s on tonight.

hawaiifiveo1213smallIt’s time for my Friday night date with my TV boyfriend, Alex. Hawaii Five-0 has become my reward on a Friday night after a long week, and what a delicious reward it is. Last episode, we watched as the team had to help make the island safe for the visit of the President, which of course they did with ease because they are just that awesome. We also met Steve’s Aunt Deb (played by the incomparable Carroll Burnett), who surprised the family with a visit. Unfortunately, we found out later that she really came because she has brain cancer and needs to say her goodbyes—it was a bittersweet episode.

On tonight’s episode, “Ho’onani Makuakane,” an attempted murder leads the team to investigate a deadly crime committed in Hawaii during World War II.

To see what the team uncovers about the past, tune in to CBS at 9/8c.

lastmanstanding1213smallThe back-to-back episodes of Last Man Standing and The Neighbors each week makes me incredibly happy.

Last week on Last Man Standing, everyone got in a tizzy when Bud spanked Boyd. It turned out that Kristen and Ryan have spoiled him, so the kid needed some discipline. In the end, they figured out a way to do that while still holding to their beliefs. On tonight’s episode, “Elfie,” in the spirit of Christmas, the sometimes self-absorbed Mandy plays Santa by anonymously arranging a holiday surprise for Blanca, the Baxters’ housekeeper. Also, when Vanessa gives Boyd a “magical” Elf doll, Ryan wants to tell Boyd it is just a doll, but Mike wants to prove to Ryan that a little Christmas spirit is not a bad thing.

theneighbors1213smallThen on last week’s The Neighbors, Jackie planned a big day for herself and her parents, but as it always seems to happen with them, they abandoned her to help the needy (in this case, the needy being Marty & Debbie, who had a pipe burst and flood their spare room). Also, Larry decided to hang out in the coffee shop all day like the “cool kids,” but he found out that they were spoiled, pampered rich kids living on Daddy’s credit cards, and he realized that was him. In the end, Jackie got a little bit of quality time with her parents and Larry got a job! On tonight’s episode, “A Christmas Story,” when Debbie oversteps and accidentally ruins Larry’s surprise Christmas gift for Dick, Larry responds the only way he knows how: going way over the top for gifts to Debbie’s kids. Meanwhile, thinking gifts are the emblem of how you truly feel about someone, Reggie and Amber both struggle with getting each other the perfect gift.

Don’t miss the laughs tonight on ABC at 8/7c & 8:31/7:31c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Grimm (x2!), Hawaii Five-0, Raising Hope (x2!), & Blue Bloods.

bluebloods1213smallCBS has made my Friday nights a great night to be home watching television by combining Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods on the same night. I have loved the dynamics of the cast and characters on Blue Bloods since the very beginning, but this season, there have been so many great moments already. We’ve gotten a few more looks into the character of some of the Regan family, and it’s always just as I thought: they are fantastic through and through.

Last episode, we saw a bit into Frank’s past as one of his canine officers was being accused of attacking a child. We got to learn that Frank used to work with the canine unit, but it would seem the emotions were too hard for him. In the end, his expertise helped uncover that the man was lying about the dog and was actually just a scam artist. The dog was saved and everyone was happy—well, except the man who lied, of course. We also got to meet Baez’s brother, Javi, who ended up tied up in a murder investigation. Eventually, Baez and Javi buried the hatchet and she forgave him for all the years of drug abuse and supported him with his being clean. It was a very emotional episode overall.

On tonight’s episode, “Mistaken Identity,” Danny and Baez meet with resistance while investigating a bombing; Frank deals with political fallout after a man punches an aggressive officer.

To see how Frank handles the sharks, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Grimm, Haven, and Say Yes to the Dress.
