If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/13/14

It’s crazy how fast the weekend went. Unfortunately, it’s back to work today. There’s good news, though, because tonight is a really busy night of TV, with lots of great stuff on. We’re here to hopefully help you narrow your choices down, but given that Megan & I are both recommending two shows, I’m not sure how much help we are! *laugh* Still, we’ll do our best. 😉

Jenny’s Choice #1

bitten113smallMy first pick tonight is the series premiere of Bitten on Syfy. The show is based on the “Women of the Otherworld” novels by Kelley Armstrong, and stars Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, Ted) as Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence. Desperate to escape both a world she never wanted to be part of and the man who turned her into a werewolf, Elena abandoned her Pack and took refuge in a new city. There, she works as a photographer and hides her werewolf existence from her new boyfriend. She finds herself back at Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain, after dead bodies start piling up. The show also stars Greg Bryk (A History of Violence) as werewolf Pack “Alpha” Jeremy Danvers, Greyston Holt (Alcatraz) as Elena’s werewolf ex-boyfriend Clayton Danvers, and Paul Greene (The Client List) as Elena’s current beau, Philip McAdams.

I love the book series, but I’m not sold on the show yet. I’ve seen the first three minutes (didn’t have time to watch the screener that was sent out), and it starts out with a rather graphic sex scene for even regular cable. I was planning to let my 16yo son watch this show with me, but talk about uncomfortable… Kyle’s seen the first episode, and he’s not sure he’ll watch any more. But I’m recommending it because I do love the books, so I’m hoping the show will get better than he said the pilot is.

On tonight’s episode, “Summons,” the lone female werewolf in existence, who wanted to escape that life and who abandoned her back and moved to a new city, is summoned back to her Pack when bodies begin to turn up in her Pack’s backyard, Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain.

To see if this new show is for you, tune in to Syfy at 10/9c.

sleepyhollow113smallLast night, I bunkered down and watched The Golden Globes, and it was fabulous because of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. I was also very happy to see Bryan Cranston win Best Actor in a Drama for Breaking Bad and then Breaking Bad winning for Best TV Drama! But that was last night. Tonight, I have two picks for you because there’s so much great TV on.

I am so incredibly excited that Sleepy Hollow is back with new episodes starting tonight. This is one of my favorite shows to watch with my guy, especially because it creeps me out too much to watch it by myself. When we left our brave witnesses, they were struggling to fight off the overwhelming amount of evil that is encroaching on their town. Poor Ichabod learned that he had a son and is struggling with his guilt and sadness over not getting to see him. I honestly don’t know where this show is going, but wherever it is, I’m on board completely!

On tonight’s episode, “The Vessel,” Irving’s daughter is the target of evil forces, and Irving begs Crane and Mills for help.

To see if they can save the girl, tune in to FOX at 9/8c.

Kyle’s Choice

beinghuman113smallWhen we last left Being Human, Josh and Nora had gotten married, but shortly afterwards, Josh was turned back into a wolf, seemingly permanently. Meanwhile, Sally had become a ghost again, but seemed to have some strange new powers—and then was dragged into a hole in the stairway by the witch Donna. And Aidan found love with Kat, but we saw a woman bearing a striking resemblance to his revolutionary-era wife Suzanna stepping out of a cab.

Will Josh ever become human again? How will all of this affect Nora? How did Suzanna come back to life, and will her return disrupt the blossoming relationship between Kat and Aidan. And where is Sally, and how will she get back?! I’m really looking forward to tonight’s premiere—I can’t wait to see how all the supernatural drama plays out this season!

Note: This past fall, I had the opportunity to visit the set of Being Human. You can find the write-up of my set visit, along with lost of photos at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s premiere, “Old Dogs, New Tricks,” Nora and Aidan are living together in the woods; at the same time, Josh is stuck inside his wolf; and Sally finds herself trapped with Donna in a mysterious place where she learns more about their magical connection.

See if any of our questions get answered tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Mom, Intelligence, Castle, The Blacklist, Almost Human, Sleepy Hollow, Switched at Birth, Archer, Chozen, Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off, Major Crimes, Bitten, and Teen Wolf.

JJ’s Choice

himym113smallTonight should be another hilarious episode of How I Met Your Mother, as we are returning to Slapsgiving. This event has been one of the highlights of the show during the first seasons, and it’s great that we are returning to it this late during the show. And the previous episode was so sweet. The meeting between Marshall and the mother was amazing, and now Marshall has finally arrived at the Farhampton Inn!

On tonight’s episode, “Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra,” Marshall explains how he learned the Slap of A Million Exploding Suns while attempting to deliver the final devastating slap to Barney.

Find out how Barney deals on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Almost Human, 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, Mom, and Castle.

Jenny’s Choice #2

castle113smallLast week’s Castle was highly emotional. While I didn’t truly think they’d kill off Ryan & Esposito, it did start to scare me a little when both were down and the firefighters hadn’t broken into the sub-basement yet. I cried when Ryan told Jenny to name the baby Javier if it was a boy, and then I couldn’t help but laugh when Espo said the line about naming a kid like Ryan’s Javier. It was great. In the end, of course, it all worked out. Jenny and their baby girl were fine, Ryan and Espo were okay (albeit dirty), and they caught the bad guy. In the end, isn’t that all we can ask? 🙂

I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode because Castle’s dad is back! It looks like it’ll be a juicy ep!

On tonight’s episode, “Deep Cover,” the murder of a young video store clerk takes a strange turn when the team discovers his past history as a high-level hacker. But it’s nothing compared to the shock Castle receives when their investigation leads them straight to his father, Jackson Hunt (guest star James Brolin).

See why the investigation takes them to Jackson Hunt tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Almost Human, American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. Japan, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Major Crimes, Mike & Molly, Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off, Sleepy Hollow, Bakery Boss, & Intelligence.

Megan’s Choice #2

rachaelvsguysmallRachel vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off is quite the mixture of personalities this season, isn’t it? Vanilla Ice just loves attention, to the point where his constant babbling is making me want to reach through my screen and smack the ice chip off his shoulder. Okay, so besides my loathing of a wannabe rapper turned do-it-yourself TV host, I really enjoyed the premiere. I’d have to say that my favorite so far is Penn because he’s just so entertaining, but also down to earth. It was nice that no one went home last week, but hopefully this week, they get down to the cutting and drop some dead weight—perhaps in the form of Ice?

On tonight’s episode, “Leis in the Fray,” the celebrities make Hawaiian-inspired appetizers to serve to the 50 guests at a luau party.

To see which celebrities succeed and which should go home, tune in to Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Mom, Intelligence, The Blacklist, Mike & Molly, American Ninja Warrior, Bitten, Lost Girl, and Bakery Boss.
