Tonight is the series premiere of America’s Best Cook on Food Network at 9/8c. Home cooks from across the country compete, with the guidance and determination from Food Network chefs, for a $50,000 cash prize in the new culinary competition series. Hosted by Ted Allen, the cooks are divided into teams which are mentored by Cat Cora, Tyler Florence, Alex Guarnaschelli, and Michael Symon, each representing the South, West, East, and North respectively. The series kicks off with a timed culinary challenge, where 16 cooks divided into groups of four compete for coveted positions on the mentor’s teams. Following the challenge, each mentor tastes the dishes of four hopeful cooks and chooses the two for their team that they believe will lead them to victory. Emotions run high as each mentor puts their reputation on the line for one of their cooks to be named America’s Best Cook.
 
Tonight is also the series premiere of Years of Living Dangerously on Showtime at 10/9c. The show follows a star-studded roster of major film, television, and renowned journalists traveling the globe, tackling an enormous range of subjects on the hot button topic of climate change. The correspondents are Jessica Alba, Mark Bittman, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, America Ferrera, Harrison Ford, Thomas Friedman, Michael C. Hall, Chris Hayes, Olivia Munn, Dr. M. Sanjayan, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ian Somerhalder, and Lesley Stahl.

Tonight is the series premiere of Metal Hurlant Chronicles on Syfy at 8/7c, followed by a new episode at 8:30/7:30c. Based on the popular comics anthology Metal Hurlan, each of the 12-episodes (comprising Seasons 1 & 2) take place on a different planet with a different cast, linked together by the presence of an asteroid, which plays a vital role in their lives – and the future of their civilization. The international cast includes James Marsters, Rutger Hauer, Michael Jai White and Joe Flanigan.
 
Tonight is also the series premiere of Bam’s Bad Ass Game Show on TBS at 10:30/9:30c. Each week on Bam’s Bad Ass Game Show, competitors vie for $10,000 by facing off against one another in incredibly demented, potentially dangerous and occasionally painful challenges. The loser of each challenge is eliminated until there’s only one contestant left standing to take home the cash prize. Helping design and demonstrate the various challenges are Bam’s friends and cohorts, who occasionally wind up worse off than any of the contestants.

Tonight is the series premiere of Fargo on FX at 10/9c. An original adaptation of the Academy Award®-winning feature film, the show features an all-new “true crime” story and follows a new case and new characters, all entrenched in the trademark humor, murder, and “Minnesota nice” that made the film an enduring classic. Oscar® winner Billy Bob Thornton stars as “Lorne Malvo,” a rootless, manipulative man who meets and forever changes the life of small town insurance salesman “Lester Nygaard,” played by BAFTA Award® winner and Emmy®-nominated Martin Freeman. Colin Hanks plays Duluth Police Deputy “Gus Grimly,” a single dad who must choose between his own personal safety and his duty as a policeman when he comes face-to-face with a killer. Allison Tolman also stars as “Molly Solverson,” an ambitious Bemidji deputy. Saturday is the series premiere of The Real History of Science Fiction on BBC America at 10/9c. From Star Wars to 2001: A Space Odyssey, and from Jurassic Park to Doctor Who, each program is packed with contributors behind these creations and traces the developments of “Robots,” “Space,” “Invasion,” and “Time.” Narrated by Mark Gatiss, Doctor Who writer, actor, and co-creator of the BBC’s Sherlock, the series determines why science fiction is not merely a genre… for its audience it’s a portal to a multi-verse – one that is all too easy to get lost in. Tonight is also the series premiere of Tobacco Wars on CMT at 10/9c. Adairville, Ky., is home to the high-stakes world of Kentucky’s dark fire industry. Fourth and fifth generation tobacco men compete to survive by any means necessary — gambling all, not just on their notoriously precarious crop, but on the wild wagers that are a fundamental part of their way of life. It’s a risky business, but when you’re a Kentucky tobacco man, your whole life’s a gamble. Dark fire tobacco, named after the perilous barn fire drying process, is used in cigars and chewing tobacco (not cigarettes). Competition to produce this most perilous, but lucrative crop (valued at approximately $3,000 per acre annually), is fierce. The farmers of Tobacco Wars are country proud and love their lives to the fullest, knowing no other way to live life. They work hard and play even harder, a living embodiment of the old saying “eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we may die.” It’s the highest stakes anyone could imagine. Their farms, their lives and their family names are on the line each and every year.
