There may be practically nothing on TV right now, but I have been really enjoying this long-needed break! It has given me a chance to watch a lot of the pilots for the upcoming fall shows and finally catch the final season of Spartacus, which had been on my To-Do list for years! The summer shows are starting to trickle into the schedule, and tonight, there’s another new series starting up. Check out my recommendation to learn more about that.
Tonight, NBC is premiering the new comedy series Undateable, with back-to-back episodes. The series comes from prolific TV creator Bill Lawrence, the man behind shows like Scrubs, Cougar Town, and Spin City. The series finds confident 29-year-old Danny (Chris D’Elia, Whitney) helping out his new roommate Justin (Brent Morin), an unsuccessful bar-owner who is also struggling in his love life. Justin’s misfit gang of friends include Shelly (Ron Funches), Burski (Rick Glassman), and Brett (David Fynn, Game of Thrones). And rounding out the group is Danny’s divorced older sister Leslie (Bianca Kajlich, Rules of Engagement).
The cast is filled with a lot of talented comedians, and the show looks like it could be a lot of fun, so I’m really looking forward to checking it out tonight. They have apparently re-used the sets from Chris D’Elia’s previous NBC comedy Whitney, so as someone who watched both seasons of that series, it’ll be another interesting aspect of the show to look out for.
On tonight’s first episode, “Pilot,” when confident slacker Danny unwittingly inherits his new roommate Justin’s group of romantically-challenged friends, he decides to mentor them in the game of love. Then, in “Pants Buddies,” Danny forces Justin into action when he sends a message to Nicki on Justin’s behalf; Danny’s role is questioned.
Check out the new comedy tonight on NBC at 9:01/8:01c & 9:30/8:30c.
I’ll also be watching/recording Hollywood Game Night and Gang Related.
