If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/10/14

The return of summer TV is ramping up, and tonight brings a series premiere, 2 season premieres, and a season finale! Tuesdays are quickly becoming like a second Sunday for me, with a lot of shows to record and watch! Megan and Jenny are taking the night off from recommendations, but I’m still here with a pair of shows for you to check out tonight.

chasinglifesmallTonight, ABC Family kicks off the new dramatic series, Chasing Life. Twenty-four-year-old April (Italia Ricci) has had a rough couple of years since her father passed away and has been living with her mother (Mary Page Keller), troubled younger sister (Haley Ramm), and grandmother (Rebecca Schull). Things are finally starting to look up when she has some promising developments in both her professional and personal life. However, after she faints at a blood drive, April learns that she has leukemia. Now she must figure out how to deal with this illness and keep her life on an upward trajectory.

Tonight’s premiere was really entertaining—I really enjoyed the characters and relationships they set up and the interesting premise for the series. I’m curious to see how they keep the tone of the series to be more uplifting than depressing as April deals with her serious illness. The pilot also sets up a really interesting twist that I can’t wait to see explored in future episodes.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” in the series premiere of this drama about an ambitious reporter who won’t give up on her dreams, April gets a chance to impress her boss and her office romance begins to prosper, and then she receives unexpected news: She’s been diagnosed with cancer.

To see how April handles this development, tune in to ABC Family at 9/8c.

fargo610smallLast week on Fargo, Lester successfully framed his brother for his wife’s murder. And much to Molly’s disapproval, Bill closed the case—she still believed that Lester and Malvo were responsible. We then jumped ahead a year and discover that Molly and Grimly are now married—and expecting a child together. Grimly is now a mailman, but Molly is still secretly consumed by her conspiracy board for the Nygaard case. Meanwhile, Lester is now remarried to Linda and is in Las Vegas to receive an award for Insurance Salesman of the Year. Afterwards, Lester is at the hotel bar celebrating with a nightcap, when he notices a man at a neighboring table—it’s Malvo!

Tonight’s episode of Fargo cannot be missed—it is a stellar hour of television and easily my favorite episode of the series thus far. It is such a tense, nerve-racking hour of television that I had to constantly remind myself to breathe! I wish all TV shows could be as thrilling as this episode! 🙂

On tonight’s episode, “A Fox, a Rabbit and a Cabbage,” Lester has an unexpected encounter. Meanwhile, Malvo changes course.

See how Lester’s encounter goes tonight on FX at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Night Shift, Riot, I Wanna Marry Harry, Royal Pains, Playing House, Heroes of Cosplay, Awkward., and Faking It.
