If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/28/14

What a great weekend it was in my house, despite some really crazy thunderstorms that disrupted my sleep last night. I’m looking forward to seeing where this week takes me both on and off the television screen. For TV, check out what Jenny & I are recommending.

Megan’s Choice

runningwildsmallI am really intrigued by all the adventure shows on TV these days, but I have been looking forward to Running Wild With Bear Grylls since I first saw the previews. In this series, Bear will be taking celebrities into the wildest and most remote locations, one at a time, for a 48-hour adventure. The celebrities include the likes of Zac Efron, Channing Tatum, and Ben Stiller. Each of the six celebs will be enduring crazy situations and get to push themselves to new limits. I’m curious to see if some of these Hollywood stars can handle the insanity that is Bear.

On tonight’s episode, “Zac Efron,” world-renowned survivalist Bear Grylls leads Zac Efron on a non-stop extreme survival journey into the Northeast Appalachian mountain range wilderness. With Bear’s help, Zac challenges himself physically as well as mentally on an awe-inspiring journey he could never have imagined.

To see if Zac can handle this, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef, Hotel Hell, American Ninja Warrior, The Bachelorette, and Teen Wolf.

majorcrimes728smallLast week’s Major Crimes was pretty great. It was kind of a backdoor pilot for a possible spin-off starring Jon Tenney’s Fritz Howard. He guest starred along with Laurie Holden (who played a cop with the LAPD’s Special Operations Bureau) and Lindsay Price (who was great as a hard-nosed, witchy city attorney). Gunshots were heard, and when SWAT and other officers breached the house, they found an elderly couple dead in the living room and a cat shut in a back bedroom. A neighbor said their daughter-in-law had dropped off her kids with the couple that morning (the neighbor said the couple’s son was dead), but the kids were missing, along with their mother and her boyfriend. Through the investigation, they learned the couple’s son had embezzled from the family company, and when they turned him in, he went to prison and they, their daughter-in-law, and their grandchildren went into witness protection. It turned out the son was out of prison, and he’d killed his parents, killed his wife’s boyfriend, and taken her and their children hostage. The rescue was intense. Julio was shot, but the kids and wife were rescued without harm, and Julio was going to be just fine. So it all worked out in the end.

I’m really anxious to see if we get the spin-off. I loved Laurie Holden’s character, and I’ve always loved Fritz. He said Brenda Leigh had been offered a good job in D.C., so if he does take a job there in L.A., rather than moving with her, that’ll be…interesting. Heh

On tonight’s episode, “Cutting Loose,” Lt. Mike Tao of Major Crimes finds himself doing double duty when the star of the cop show on which he moonlights as a consultant becomes the prime suspect in the murder of his biggest fan. Luke Perry guest stars.

Find out if Luke Perry—erm, his character—is the killer tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, MasterChef, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, American Ninja Warrior, Food Fest Nation, Longmire, & Mystery Diners.
