If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/6/14

Boo! I told you we’d be jumping on occasionally during our vacation from the Remote posts, and today is one of those days. It’s just me today. Kyle’s still catching up on shows that are clogging up his DVR and Megan’s spending time with her family and getting ready for surgery on her hip, so check out what I’m recommending.

Jenny’s Choice

topchefduelssmallIf you’ve paid attention, you know that I’ve been a big fan of Top Chef since I started watching it a few seasons ago. So I was excited when I saw the info for tonight’s series premiere of Top Chef Duels. Hosted by Curtis Stone, each episode will pit two of the biggest, boldest, and most talked-about cheftestants from past seasons against one another in the kitchen. They will face off in three rounds. In the first two, each chef will pick a mini-duel based on the other chef’s perceived weaknesses in the kitchen. Then the third and final round will determine who moves on to compete in the finale, where ten chefs will compete to earn bragging rights, $100,000 grand prize, and a culinary adventure that will be featured in Food and Wine Magazine. Not only is Curtis Stone hosting, but he’s also judging this one, along with Wolfgang Puck and Hugh Acheson, as well as other special guests throughout the series.

Some of the competing chefs are tonight’s pair (Richard Blais & Marcel Vigneron), as well as Shirley Chung (Top Chef New Orleans), Brooke Williamson (Top Chef Seattle runner up), Antonia Lofaso (Top Chef Chicago finalist), David Burke (Top Chef Masters Season 5), Takashi Yagihashi (Top Chef Masters Season 4), & more. I adore Richard Blais, I loved Brooke on her season, and I enjoy seeing Antonia as a judge on Cutthroat Kitchen, so they’re definitely my top three picks.

On tonight’s episode, “Richard Blais Vs. Marcel Vigneron,” two notorious mad scientists face off; Marcel challenges Richard to make a multi-temperature dessert; Richard challenges Marcel to make a burger, one of his own specialties; the chefs cook a three-course meal to entice the judges’ senses.

Find out who cooks their way to the finals tonight on Bravo at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Penn & Teller: Fool Us, So You Think You Can Dance, Young & Hungry, Mystery Girls, America’s Got Talent, Restaurant Stakeout, Rowhouse Showdown, Hot in Cleveland, Taxi Brooklyn, & Jennifer Falls.
