If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/26/14

Ugh. Welcome back to school. Here’s your yearly dose of sore throats, coughs, and drippy noses. Yes, the little petri dishes are back, which means they soak up every bit of germs they can and then bring it home, infecting not only themselves, but their families as well. My kiddo came home sick last week—stayed home from school for two days—then my husband got it over the weekend and stayed home Monday from work. Monday night? It’s my turn. So it’s all happy happy joy joy here. Josh is still fighting off his cough, Scott just feels blech, and my throat and nose feel like they’re trying to make me cry. To take my mind off our temporary ill health, let’s see what we’re recommending for tonight.

choppedsmallI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I love when Chopped runs a special tournament. The one that’s starting tonight is a biggie. Sixteen previous winners are coming back to compete in one big five-week “Ultimate Champions” tournament. Chefs/cooks from four different groups (pros, amateurs, heroes, & celebrities) compete one group per week, and then in week five, the four winners compete in the grand finale for the chance to win $50,000 and a new car! That’s the biggest prize in the show’s history, but with so many great competitors, it’s no wonder.

On tonight’s episode, “Ultimate Champions: Pros,” four professional chefs have to wrangle and cook eels and figure out what to do with a super-salty veggie for their appetizers. Then, in the entree round, they have to work with a bird and a soda. And a special cheese and a creepy chocolate item appear in the dessert basket.

Find out what the creepy chocolate item could be tonight on Food Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Food Fighters, America’s Got Talent, Rizzoli & Isles, Royal Pains, Restaurant Startup, Sullivan & Son, & Wizard Wars.

foodfighterssmallFood Fighters has been a surprise for me because I thought it was going to be a summer snooze, but it turned out to be thoroughly entertaining. I love watching the everyday home cook take on the professional chefs and win. My favorite moment was when the one guy won on an eggs benedict dish, which you would think any professional could nail with their eyes closed. That’s what I enjoy the most about this show — the unpredictable outcomes.

On tonight’s episode, “Jon Coombs,” a U.S. Army sergeant and father of seven tries to win $100,000 going up against culinary experts specializing in everything from Italian dishes to California cuisine before facing off against world-class chef Cat Cora.

To see if this Army sergeant can handle an Iron Chef, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching America’s Got Talent, Restaurant Startup, The Amazing Race Canada, Chopped, and Pretty Little Liars.

covertaffairs826smallTonight, Covert Affairs airs its summer finale, which means we are likely to be left with a cliffhanger to ponder as we await the show’s return. Last week, Annie resigned from the agency and joined McQuaid Security, refusing to settle down to a desk job. However, this move was two-fold, as Annie used her new access to investigate and get answers as to who was responsible for Chicago and (hopefully) prove that Ryan had nothing to do with it. As Auggie served as Annie’s unofficial handler for the mission, he found himself under Calder’s cross-hairs for covering up Annie’s medical condition. Meanwhile, Annie discovered information that tied one of McQuaid’s men to Chicago and an abandoned warehouse that appeared to be a staging ground for the office bombing.

Is McQuaid just being set up, or did he really have something to do with the bombing? Can Annie put aside her feelings for Ryan to figure out the truth? Will Joan and Calder reinstate Annie to active duty now that she has proven that she can still operate in the field? Or will Annie continue to work on her own? It should be an exciting midseason finale tonight!

On tonight’s episode, “Sensitive Euro Man,” despite Auggie’s wishes, Annie helps McQuaid with a tough mission. Elsewhere, Hayley is determined to find the truth before disaster strikes U.S. soil.

See if Annie finds any answers tonight on USA Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Tyrant, Royal Pains, Covert Affairs, Face Off, Wizard Wars, and Finding Carter.
