Tonight is the series premiere of The Great British Baking Show on PBS at 8/7c. (But check your local listings… In my area, it’s not premiering until NEXT Sunday, 1/4/15. The press release said it was premiering this week, but again, check your local listings.) Renowned British bakers Mary Berry, the U.K.’s “doyenne of baking” and a leading cookbook writer, and Paul Hollywood, one of Britain’s top artisan bakers, serve as the series’ judges. Together with hosts and comic foils Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, Berry and Hollywood search for the country’s best amateur bakers by testing their competitors’ skills on cakes, breads, pastries and desserts of all kinds, ultimately crowning a winner after 10 weeks of competition.

Tonight is the series premiere of It Takes a Choir on USA Network at 12PM/11AMc, followed by seven new episodes, one each hour, ending with the season finale at 7/6c. The show follows the dapper and charismatic British sensation Gareth Malone as he travels across the U.S. to unite an unexpected mix of characters through the spellbinding power of music. A true fish out of water, in both his environment and teaching style, Malone finds himself in the craziest situations with some of the biggest characters. Each episode culminates in a unified and powerful public performance from the choir in front of their family, friends and community.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Branson Famous on TruTV at 10/9c. In this first-ever “reality musical,” go behind the scenes of the longest-running variety show in Branson, MO, with the Mabe family. With the backdrop of decades-old feuds, burning jealousies, and sequined costume changes, the Mabes take their legacy, “The Baldknobbers Jamboree,” very seriously. But get ready, because their passion for country music is not confined to the stage, and they just might break into song when you least expect it.

Tonight is the series premiere of Big Women: Big Love on Lifetime at 10/9c. Watch out, guys, these women are on the prowl and coming your way. Dating can be one of the most difficult parts of a woman’s life, but being extra curvy can make it that much more complicated. This new docu-drama examines the lives of five plus-sized women as they navigate the tricky waters of the turbulent and sometimes harsh dating scene, struggling through bad dates and worse judgments. Shining a light on a group of women who are rarely the focus of TV cameras, the show provides a unique point of view on their experiences in love and life.
