Recap/Review – Grey’s Anatomy – “What Is It About Men?” – 10/6/11

Yes, what is it about the men of Grey’s Anatomy that make so many woman, and some men, swoon? Is it their charm? Charisma? Intelligence? Or rugged good looks? I’ll go with all of the above. The current cast of Grey’s Anatomy is, I think, the best they’ve had since the very beginning. So when ABC promoted a “get into the heads of the Men of Grey’s Anatomy“-type campaign, it seemed like it was going to be really interesting to see what the men were thinking. We are led into Meredith’s head every week, so this would be a refreshing change.

Sadly, it was not. The ladies of Grey’s Anatomy were all but non-existent. For most of the entire episode, I heard “blah…blah…blah.” The guys are boring. They’re good doctors, and that was shown to an extent. But Derek and Mark’s fighting over Avery was a bit childish. It was like two high school girls fighting over the senior stud muffin. I truly wanted to fast forward, because this just inflates Avery’s ego even more than it already is. I know for some, this guy is eye candy, and it must be in his contact that he takes his shirt of at least once an episode. I’m not complaining—just observing.

Recap/Review of Law & Order: SVU – “Blood Brothers” – 10/5/11

First things first…Novak is back! I love Casey Novak. She has balls, brains, and brawn. And Diane Neal is gorgeous, with her smirks and eyebrow raises. Ok back to the show…

“Blood Brothers” was a show of many victims. We’re introduced first to Ella Mendez, a 13-year-old Catholic school girl. It’s determined that she is about 8 weeks pregnant. Olivia Benson and Nick Amaro work together on this case. Benson, at first, wants to handle it alone, but Cragen makes Amaro tag along because “his Spanish is better” than Benson’s. They start looking for older men in Ella’s life, but eventually come back to Ella for more information on the father of the baby. Ella is someone who wants a fantasy life. She is obsessed with the Royal Wedding. When questioned by Benson, who has grown more motherly in the last few seasons, Ella claims the baby is a gift from God, then recants and says that she had sex with her Science teacher, Mr. Cordova. But Benson, always the one to see thru a story, quickly gets Ella to admit that she was with someone rich and handsome and “she’s going to be his princess.” Flowers sent to Ella are traced back to a posh florist and sent to Ella from the account of Ambassador Andrew Raines, played fabulously by Kyle McLaughlin, who is a member of the NY elite royal families and about to run for state Senate.

Recap/Review of NCIS – “The Penelope Papers” – 10/4/11

I hadn’t seen the promos for this episode of NCIS, so when, shortly before airing, I saw that Lily Tomlin was going to be on, I was more excited to watch. I must say, the last two weeks have left me a bit disappointed. I haven’t seen the action or the camaraderie within the team. Ziva has been pretty much non-existent all season, and Abby has been relegated to her lab again for a quick analysis, and then she’s not seen until the next week. Palmer, on the other hand, has been getting more and more face time—or I suppose I should say mouth time. He never shuts up. That’s about the only continuality between each episode. They aren’t building on season-long themes or issues.

So I had high hopes for this episode, with the always stunning Lily Tomlin. Was anyone else kinda hoping just for a quick Ernestine, the telephone operator, appearance?

See what else I thought after the jump. Continue reading

Recap/Review of Law & Order: SVU – “Personal Fouls” – 9/28/11

From the very first scene, Dan Lauria, as Coach Ray Masters, shows he hasn’t lost his flare. (I still can’t help but wonder where Kevin, Paul, and Winnie are… but I digress.)

It’s pretty obvious where this episode is going when he is the coach of young boys and his induction ceremony is interrupted by a man who yells “you know what you did” in the most dramatic fashion. So we just wait for the fallout.

But was I the only one wondering how Elliot’s absence would be addressed in this the second episode of the season? Will his absence affect Olivia more and more throughout the season, or will he eventually not be mentioned at all? I hope the former is the case so we get to see how well Mariska Hargitay can play the emotions we know she’s capable of. Cragen makes Olivia face the fact the Elliot is not coming back by telling her to clean out his desk. This is obviously a very hard task for her. His abandoning her is still very hurtful. But I can’t imagine how Olivia would feel if anyone else cleaned out his desk. I think this pain is going to go on long into the season.

Recap/Review of NCIS – “Restless” – 9/27/11

My name is Tara, and if I could watch TV for a living, I would. I’m 32-years-old, and some of my first and fondest memories involve a TV. My all-time favorite show is The Golden Girls. I still watch it daily.

I’ll talk forever about all genres. You may or may not like my opinions, but they are mine, and I’ll respect yours. I’m an electronics geek and am not ashamed to say that I am single and have 5 TVs in my house…including one in the bathroom. So yes, my love for TV is deep. Talk TV with me on Twitter @TheBoobTuber.

I’m going to review a few shows for TV Is My Pacifier from now on, starting with this week’s NCIS, so read on!

When a successful drama like NCIS has an episode titled “Restless,” it builds up an anticipation that it’s going to be anything but restful. Unfortunately, this episode just didn’t strike me as exciting. I kept looking at the clock to see when it would be over. This is, of course, just my opinion, and I hope this episode entertained many people.
